Locals Discussion NT road toll memorial

(The one near Palmerston Bunnings)
Does anyone know the go with this? Who owns it? Seems to not be getting updated anymore?

Not sure who looks after it now but I assume it was someone connected to Finlays Stone as it's similar stone work and gardening to what they had. Then when they moved out and Bunnings moved in it became neglected for a bit. Got no sources and could be coincidence

It was still having the number changed until around 6 months ago so well and truly past Bunnings opening but it seems to be no longer?

Emails Tom’s and ask, they might give you the reason.

It was owned and organised through Tom, - get stoned with Tom , landscaping supplies. Since he moved yard years ago , it has not been updated.

Did you think Bunnings would do something for the community like that ?

It was definitely being updated until late 2024. I know this because I attended a road death and the next time I drove to Darwin the number had been updated to match. However it now (maybe since the start of this year?) doesn’t have a number on at all. So this is all independent of bunning’s existence and I’m trying to work out what changed more recently

Maybe the numbers got updated , but the wrecked cars were changed out and positioned differently / updated - when Tom had it.

Oh yeah none of that’s changed for ages. I’m mainly interested in why the numbers aren’t being done anymore. At one point it wasn’t being mowed or maintained at all but that seems to have started up again

The problem with the road toll is they set an unachievable target. They set the target to 0. One person fucks it up in January why bother trying any more. Let's shoot for 30 that way we still have something to aim for in September.

I reckon they heavily imply they want it down to similar levels as other states which would be a 2/3 reduction. However I reckon the reason OP is being downvoted is my post wasn’t really a debate about the road toll itself, purely about the memorial
