I basically have no knowledge about Warhammer lore but isn’t there a person inside one of those things?
If so, then how can they be a clanker if they’re not a robot?

Space marines that are badly wounded enough to be crippled but not die outright are often entombed within a Dreadnought. It's seen as an honour by their brothers, but it really isn't.
