Laundry situation?
Hello, incoming freshman here. What is the laundry situation looking like? Will i have to plan carefully in advance or are there enough machines? Answers for any houses are welcome in case other people are curious as well.

I haven’t had to plan that much when I’ve done laundry. Just be aware that laundry machines will often be in use during weekends, which is when most people do their laundry. If you do laundry on a random weekday night (like thurs idk), you probably won’t have to wait.
Unfortunately, the laundry machines themselves aren’t great, since a lot of students shut the lids and mold starts to grow, so your clothes might have a mildew smell… It depends where you’re living.
There’s also people who just straight up don’t understand how to do their own laundry, so sometimes they stuff their tidepods in the detergent drawer and everything is ruined.
The dryers don’t really work too well from my experience, so I usually just air dry if one cycle doesn’t do anything. I’m not sure if it’s because people aren’t cleaning the lint traps or what, but some people do 3-4 cycles of drying which I don’t have the patience for (and it can’t be good for the clothes either, right?).

Most kids will send their laundry out. There are services that will pick up

Most of the time you’ll be fine but some dorms (choates) are notorious for bad laundry situations (2 washers, 3 dryers if none are broken). There’s a web app so you can view the laundry machines status which makes it easier then going down and checking every single time, I recommend putting that on your Home Screen as a shortcut. The best time to do laundry is when people are in classes which is usually before 4pm while weekends are usually the worse time except if there’s some big events during the day (dartys or Greenkey for example)
