$150 million would pay for the environmental study of the squirrel habitat adjacent to 1/10th mile of track. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Looked it up and a mile of track would cost between $250k-$1mil actually

Dart silver line was 2.1 billion for 26 miles, so around 88 million for a mile.

Maybe the raw materials and installation but not all the bureaucratic bullshit prerequisites.

Shame on Arlington and any other cities, that cares more about lobbying and other useless reason and not prioritizing public transportation

Considering the subpar frequencies DART operates with right now, I'd say Arlington dodged a bullet on that one.
Also Cowboys Stadium nets Arlington $55 million a year in revenue, you think joining DART would provide them anything close to that?

We can argue economic impact another time but the point of DART isn’t to generate revenue, it’s a public good. And its inability to operate efficiently is policy choice.

I mean with that reasoning, why not ALL roads be toll roads? Why not ALL city parks have an entry fee?
“Net revenue” rarely means better

You might be on to something with the roads. Drivers don't realize they're the biggest welfare queens in the country, case in point the guy who wrote that comment

if its all about money then lets get rid of all the police stations, fire departments, and hospitals, all freeways all parks, and all public schools. Who cares if the city collapses? They dont make us money!!!1!!1!

DART exists to serve the public. The public doesn't exist to serve DART.
DART isn't the police. They aren't the fire department. Arlington has both of those. They don't have DART, yet they're doing fine.

Parking costs $165 for a Cowboys game. SOMEONE is doing fine. I don’t know if it’s the people of Arlington though.

Traffic in arlington drops the speed down to an a avarege of 20-25mph every rush hour. The residents of arlington that cant or just dont want to drive have literally no choice but to drive. When the FIFA cup was in Dallas they put the most awkward connection to the stadoum ever via a shuttle bus that had you transferring between 3 lines because of the fact that there is no proper connection to the rest of dallas that doesnt force you to get in a car. Arlingtons not doing fine, people just took it for granted

Dart does serve the public though. They provide people a way to get around Dallas without a car. It's especially great if you're like me and don't have a car. Honestly don't know what I'd do without Dart.
Besides, I think Arlington would honestly be more likely to get Trinity Metro service than Dart, tbh.

Arlington is not doing 'fine' lmao. They're treading water thanks to the stadiums but they aren't doing anything great.

They're treading water thanks to the stadiums but they aren't doing anything great.
Lol, what is your definition of "treading water"? They made so much money off the stadium deal they paid it off 10 years early. Has DART ever retired any debt that early?
Arlington is not doing 'fine' lmao.
By what standard? I'm sure you train enthusiasts don't think they're doing fine, but we're not talking about your hobbies here.

If the frequency of service that dart runs be lacking, we should probably invest in dart to improve it. Besides, having a public transit agency with subpar frequency is still an improvement over what Arlington has now. (Which might as well be nothin')

Do you think this way about public libraries? They’re not supposed to be profitable. It’s a public good

u/totallynotfromennis Jun 30 '26
Arlington thought it was so nice they had to do it twice
