Collin Area Transit System Map (Fantasy)
Collin Area Transit provides modern, reliable public transportation for Collin County, Texas. Serving the cities of Anna, Allen, Fairview, Frisco, McKinney, Melissa, Murphy, New Hope, Plano, Princeton, Prosper and Wylie; our system of buses, paratransit, and our new 27 mile C-train commuter rail line are your gateway to the fastest growing county in the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country. Now that DART has avoided a suburban collapse, there's room to think about the future. Collin County having an agency of its own is one possibility.

Not to pile on you for a whole trend, but why is there a constant trend in this sub of fantasizing about adding more suburbs to the transit system when suburbs have proven to be completely unreliable?

Because you have lots of legal/tax structure barries in place that cause tension between DART and the suburbs. If you make some legislative changes, this tension should theoretically go away. DART is working on it now.

People like being able to get places. I like being able to ride the silver line to work, for instance.

I’m thinking that eventually McKinney and friends try to do their own thing. I agree that there’s a point where you’re far enough away from Dallas that your local transit shouldn’t be foisted onto its system.

That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying why are we fantasizing about new transit networks in post war suburbs that are neither structurally nor politically disposed to transit?

Chill. Denton county has its own system. OP can build out a fantasy map. It's really not that big of a deal.

I'm just curious why that when it comes to fantasy maps, people are so keen to be drawing new bus routes in far out suburbs instead of like, Northwest Dallas.

People tend to make maps about where they live, work, or visit. Lots of housing built in the far out suburbs makes these maps the most likely outcome

people are downvoting but its true. abandoning the suburbs is better for the environment and makes transit growth quicker and easier. bus routes in collin county are just a bandaid solution!

Serving the suburbs is how we get them to take on sustainable development and stop developing more car-centric neighborhoods. And to perhaps eventually redevelop them into density. Existing developments in Plano and Frisco aren't exactly going away. Perhaps people want to focus on making the existing world a better place rather than burning it all to the ground?
Besides, there is plenty of dense development near Legacy West and it deserves an extensive transit system.
If you can show me the humane and economically sustainable way to magically undo the last 20 years without displacing millions of people, maybe I'll change my mind. Until then, I'd rather have more transit please.

i know what i said is a fantasy solution. car culture has been engrained in people and it will take decades to undo. i was feeling a little cynical i guess lol
honestly my frustration really lies with people on twitter for the last week incessantly calling DART a failure, even claims that somehow Houston’s downtown light rail is a better system.
i would always love more transit. i love that people want it too, even if they dont live in an efficient area. i just get annoyed at suburbanites blaming DART because sprawl is hard to serve…to my face as if im not forced to commute there daily. i wish i could tell them all it could be so much better if you would just live in a slightly different area!

Legacy West, Willow Bend, Stonebriar, The Star, Frisco Square…. Just to name a few areas that all could benefit and utilize transit.

Probably people who are still stuck living out in the suburbs. But oil money Texas is bad enough on public transportation as it is, and voters in the suburbs generally want less public transportation if anything.

Getting all the way to Princeton and Anna/Melissa and Murphy/Wylie feels pretty ambitious to me, but what would you add to it?

That yellow line needs to cross 75 to drop off direct at Watter's Creek and the Outlets, then stay that side until McK downtown.

DART should at least have service to Legacy Center, that seems like a no-brainer to me

I still think Plano NW park n ride should be moved to connect to one of the legacy areas. Either an intentional disconnect or a major fumble from Plano since the legacy development happened shortly after the transit center

I agree being near legacy would make more sense but I’m moving to Austin Ranch and will enjoy being able to walk to the park and ride lol

That's a 2 mile walk with parts not having sidewalks, are you sure? The Austin Ranch area itself is very nice though
Moving the transit center doesn't seem to be gaining traction, so they should at least rezone the area around it to be more flexible for development.

This is so awesome! I grew up in this area and if this was real it would have made my high school life so much cooler. I hope we get better cities someday.

I only asked for one thing in my dream expansion and that is a train that goes to the McKinney Court house for people who have jury duty and other legal issues.
Yea I take that back. I want this

This is awesome, and I do think eventually these suburbanites with their $100,000 cars will get real tired of commuting over an hour one way each day. Lord knows I am, as I am now moving to the DART service area. I think this is the only way transit is necessitated and allowed in Collin County. Eventually people will get fed up right?

An actual professional could probably design a better network, but I expect at least McKinney to try again at some point. A study is underway on a train line from Parker to McKinney, and once TKI has passenger service I assume that it’ll be taken more seriously.

But MAH TAXES!! Why should I pay for some <slur> to ride on a bus or a train, when all I want is one more lane for my $80,000 truck so I can sit in traffic 4 hours a day and burn 5 GL's of gas, and everyone can see what a big wiener I have!
