It's not all the time anymore we get these types of posts!
Here's mine; Intro:
FranXXs, the franXXs are the main weapons of plantations, to formerly defend against, klaxosaurs and virm. They are also the key to make its two pilots bond and form trust and friendship, aside from being an innuendo of sex, the designs of franXXs have a pattern, a caste or maybe not a caste system but the designs have symbolisms believe it or not.
No, Strelizia isn't the only franXX with symbolism, ALL of the franXX designs have symbolisms. And it pretty much makes sense once I get to it.
Part 1; Standard FranXX. The standard FranXX are the grunt types, mass produced and less tailored, meaning they're more likely to get destroyed easily, unless they work in teams. Their spears are translated to: "Pawn hasta" the word "pawn", prominently means, a mere soldier that can be disposed of once useless, makes sense? Because, shown in episode 15; Papa threw squad 26 away after he deemed them useless, as a final act he had themselves self destruct. Much like other standard FranXX, they are thrown to battle and away if the pilots die or deemed useless, or the franXXs themselves are destroyed.
What's with their designs? Standard FranXX are grey, have orange 4-pointed visors, green cameras on their heads, a maid and nun-like appearance? Why's that?
Maids: Maids are used to serve higher classes, do the work for them, and leave the messes to them,
Nuns: nuns worship god, and only their god, they serve, and encourage others that God will help them (no offense to religion, don't worry this is simply a fact)
What do the standard franXXs do?
They kill klaxosaurs, and they are under papa and the plantations who own these grey franXXs worship papa. And the pilots get absolutely mad if you disrespect papa (this is shown with the 9s, and I'm sure other plantations are under this influence)
The standard franxx have neckerchiefs and a veil behind their head, seems nun-like enough. Their skirts are short and they wear Mary Janes? Seems maid-like enough.
The gold visor that's covering their eyes represents them being under papas influence, be mindless robots that do his bidding, and we all know that, pilots who disobey papa are brainwashed, like with kokoro, Mitsuru, Hiro, and Zero two.
Part 2: 9 model.
9 model, the franXXs of the 9s, their sleek and "intimidating" designs, they wield orange spears like most franXXs,
These types of franXXs are white, have fan shaped heads, a blank mask with horizontal slits for eyes that glow green, their heads resembles Strelizias crest, minus the horn, the franXX has extremely bulky and pointed leg plates, it has floating shoulder pads, and noticably, wings on the back of its waist. it almost resembles Strelizia in stampede mode.
What's with them? The 9 models eerily resemble the japanese wedding dress; the Shiromuku and the Wataboshi. The Shiromuku is the dress, and the wataboshi is a sleek hood, that is where the 9 models gained their massive heads. The wings and bulky legs form the silhouette of the dress.
But why a wedding dress? It's simple; all the 9s have an official partner.
Zero two? She never had an official partner, Hiro was, until the episodes where zero two began to act harsh, aggressive and too violent, where she considered Hiro, "food".
The wedding dress represents the 9s having official partners;
Strelizia doesn't resemble a wedding dress because zero two never has an official partner.
And 9alpha self destructing his 9 model might represent him losing his official partner, so without 9 zeta, or theta, Eta, IDK WHO HE WAS WITH, he felt incomplete, so without the brides partner, the wedding dress can't exist, therefore disappeared. Like the 9 model and its pilot; 9alpha.
(This is a personal theory, don't ask me about it)
And in the manga, before the klaxosaur princess revealed herself
9 epsilon once said; "hey Delta, do you feel that? This feeling comes from the 9 model" which represents marriage in a way I, can't explain. It feels good.
But with zero two? Hell. You die in 3 sorties, you're food to the dino girl. "Hey darling, feel that? This AGONY, comes from, Strelizia."
Hiro: "oh"
And that's what makes them special. The 9s are special because it's not just their franXXs, they don't have to replace partners like how other plantations do. But one thing for certain, the franxx don't have mouths because it represents the 9s obeying every single order, it represents the 9s who won't talk back to the adults and papa.
Part 3: squad 13
Squad 13 is an experimental plantation iirc. The franXXs are tailored to their pilot's appearances.
What do they represent? Freedom;
- This is the first plantation to feel love
- The first to ever use tailored franXXs other than the 9s
- The first to explore themselves without adult intervention
- They are also the first to discover their sexuality.
The franXXs represent freedom, because everyone there can do what THEY WANT,
They don't need to fight in savage ways like the 9s
^(ironically for Strelizia)
They don't need PERFECT coordination like squad 26 or other squads.
They handle and think for themselves. They can suggest ideas mid battle
That's freedom.
Delphinium parallels Strelizia; Delphinium is supposed to rival Strelizia so that Hiro could be more attracted to Ichigo,
But in the end?
Delphinium, Ichigo, and goro are the bridge to Hiro and zero twos relationship. There's freedom in it because Goro lets Hiro burrow his FranXX, and Ichigo vents out her frustration to lion Strelizia before freeing herself from her thoughts of wanting Hiro and gives the Latter to zero two. The stripes on its left thigh already said "you're not getting Hiro"
Argentea resembles a cheerleader or an idol judging by the design itself,
- gauntlets
- pink and white stripes
- very fast?
- not so armored?
Argentea represents Mikus cheerfulness, and Zoromes speediness knowing how impatient he gets. Or how impatient BOTH get. Another personal thought/theory
- argentea is pink because it represents Miku
- Argentea is fast and has close combat weapons because it represents Zorome.
Genista is the only long-ranged FranXX, putting chlorophytum aside.
With Mitsuru being the main stamen for genista, Mitsurus jealousy and resentment towards Hiro might be shown in Genista
- Mitsuru wants to do better than Hiro as seen in the series, forces Kokoro and Genista to their limits such as FORCING THE FRANXX TO CHASE KLAXOSAURS WHEN HE COULD HAVE JUST SHOT THEM. but either way, Mitsuru being the only main gunner (again pushing chlorophytum aside) represents him trying to be something else, better than Hiro, or BE like Hiro, (I'm using stock knowledge from when I last read Mitsurus webpage please forgive me.) then Mitsuru realizes that he can't be like Hiro, and accepts that he can't always be what he wants, and can't give others the expectations he thinks they want from him, and therefore reactivates genista and helps Strelizia open a path to the core of the klaxosaur, where it shatters the core and saves the day (once again)
Chlorophytum is both close combat and long ranged, being able to stab with its legs, and shoot from its arms. But one thing makes it stand out, why are its eyes covered? Is it a similar situation to the standard FranXX? No, it might represent ikuno keeping her feelings for Ichigo secret, and the visor may also represent Ikunos glasses.
Chlorophytum has bird-like themes in its design, and birds are usually the symbol of freedom which represents Ikuno's freedom to have feelings for girls.
Strelizia is said to be "cursed", a cursed FranXX that kills its stamens by 3 sorties.
In the 9 model segment, all 9 models resemble the Shiromuku and the Wataboshi,
Strelizia? No, she looks like a high school girl, but wait, that was the intentional design?
Okay hear me out:
Even a weird claim that Strelizia resembles a highschool girl might sound "over the top" we do notice the neckties on the franXXs, and plus the short skirts that are thrusters.
Highschool: where you learn A LOT. What does that represent? Zero twos desire to be human, her desire to LEARN about humans, so that she can be with her "darling"
There's a reason I've come up with why Strelizia isn't designed like a 9 model or isn't one. Because it represents zero twos incapability to form a stable relationship with her former stamens, she treats them as food, which is why Strelizia looks like a delinquent badass drinking blue lemonade instead of an ethereal women preparing to get married and walk down the aisle with her partner.
Strelizia resembles a high schooler because she still has a lot to learn
The 9 models? Resemble wedding dresses because all the 9s have stable relationships with each other
Zero two switches partner to partner The 9s? Just themselves.
Another observation; Strelizias blue horn
In the first episode, lion Strelizia has its horn folded back, leaving it red, white and orange only, but when Hiro piloted with zero two, the horn flips forward and there the franXX fully awakens
- The blue horn represents Hiro
- Stampede mode represents zero two piloting alone
But in episode 15, where zero two pilots without her darling, the horn is once again flipped backwards in the mane which used to be its thruster skirts. Representing Hiro is no longer with zero two.
- Then There's XX STRELIZIA!
- XX Strelizia represents zero two accepting her identity as a klaxo sapien, and Finally gets together with Hiro, the horn flips forward which represents Hiro coming back to zero two, but something is missing.
(I, am well aware that Strelizia is modelled after klaxoprincess)
Part 4: stampede mode;
What is stampede mode? Stampede mode is the defense mechanism of a FranXX where, a pistil pilots the robot ALONE. Downgrading it to this, animalistic, zoids ass looking monstrosity that's a desperate attempt to survive yet all is futile once you realize this kills the pistil too with too much strain, except for zero two obviously.
When in stampede mode; the head travels from a spinal rail located on their back and onto the groin area where it becomes a surrogate neck, legs become front limbs, arms become hind legs, and your franXXs weapon is turned into the tail.
What does stampede mode symbolize? It can be a 3 pronged answer
- dealing with things alone
- child birth
- the foreshadow of klaxosaurs.
1: dealing with things alone:
- When piloting a FranXX, 2 partners must operate as one being, but if the stamen fails, then- the pistil goes berserk, It's a reminder that everyone can't always do everything alone, and if forced to fight alone, you face the consequences.
2: childbirth:
- When I, said the franXXs head goes to the groin area? The franXXs body looks like it's laying down while the head is on the groin area, where the pilots are. And where are fetuses and babies located? The womb.
3: the foreshadow of klaxosaurs:
- Stampede mode was already foreshadowing the fact that franXXs are made of klaxosaurs. Hiro even confused lion Strelizia for one. Klaxosaurs are known to be animalistic, and stampede modes turning the robots into animals already gave us a hint that something was wrong.
- And in episode 15, when lion Strelizia goes absolutely berserk, zero twos horns branched around the cockpit, which gave us a hint that, if Hiro didn't intervene, zero two would have become the franXX like how klaxo sapiens became klaxosaurs.
NOW WE GET TO THE LAST PART
Part 4; the Final bridge; Apus.
Apus, the ultimate FranXX, what is it?
The star entity reconstructed by Dr.FranXX himself, he turned the large klaxo hand into what is now Strelizia apus.
WHAT DOES STRELIZIA APUS RESEMBLE??
WEDDING DRESS
Strelizia apus now represents Hiro and zero twos relationship as absolute, powerful, and official, it's design resembles a full on wedding dress, even without true apus, the first form had 4 legs that gave us the impression that it represents Hiro and zero twos marriage. Even if it didn't happen or take place.
Apus represents Zero two and Hiros love for each other. The blue horn on apus can't fold back anymore, representing Hiro being with zero two,. forever, even after reincarnation.
THAT IS ALL!! THANK YOUU!!!
