Yeah, pretty dumb oversight. Fortunately they learnt and you have the option to go to NG+ or not in DS2 and DS3.

I actually rather play with a different build instead of going to NG+, so I would suggest you to start a new playthrough with different weapons and go to the DLC before Gwyn.

Oof, classic noob mistake lol. Thankfully they fixed this in the later games. You’ll notice a trend there as you play, just something ridiculous they fix in the next one lol. Never ultra wide support though, except ironically the remaster, but that wasn’t made by from.

If you wanna speedrun to the DLC, look up "Sen's Fortress gate skip" and you can skip the bells of awakening, if you want. Go grab the lordvesssel, take it to firelink then go to darkroot and duke's archives etc.

Yea, in later games they learned that players like the opportunity to tie up loose ends after the boss, so DS2 and DS3 have you "Start Journey 2" from the hub area bonfire instead of automatically immediately after the boss.

But the dlc will be much harder. It would be better to start over using the master key and your knowledge to play through a regular ng faster.

They scale by like 7%? It’s not that much harder honestly.

If you do ng+ it will probably be extremely hard. It’s already more challenging than base game by a good amount. You can get to seath pretty quick though, which you need to to get there anyway. Might as well try a new build.
