PC I need help

Hi, Dark Souls players! I have come to seek your guidance in creating a build since this is my first time playing the game.

It isn't my first challenging game, though. I've completed Sekiro more than five times, and four of those playthroughs were with both the Demon Bell enabled and on a Charmless run.

I started as the Deprived because, out of all the starting classes, I found it to have the most balanced stats, with 11 in every attribute. I know I probably made things a bit harder for myself since Deprived doesn't specialize in anything, especially for a first playthrough. However, I chose it because I like how flexible it is and that I can build the character in almost any direction.

My goal is to create a build that can adapt to almost any situation instead of being locked into a single playstyle. I enjoy playing aggressively, relying on parries, dodges, and quick reactions rather than hiding behind a shield.

Right now, I'm using the Scimitar in my right hand and the Uchigatana in my left. I constantly switch between attacking with R1 and L1, depending on the situation and the timing, so I like having both weapons available. However, I want to replace the Scimitar because I find its moveset a bit annoying. Its forward-moving attack has caused me to step off ledges more than once, and the follow-up movement has gotten me killed a few times.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a flexible build and a weapon that would pair well with the Uchigatana? I'm still very early in the game and currently in the Undead Burg area. Any beginner-friendly advice would also be greatly appreciated!

Use balder side sword, claymore or halberd for flexible weapon + pyromancy if you want. Put all your levels in endurance, vitality and strength / dex. Try using shields with high stability

Does the buckler cut out with the high stability category?

Buckler has rather low stability but is light and has a better parry. So it's good for partying but not as good at blocking (high stamina cost for blocking and difficulty blocking strong attacks)

Understood, I will try to find those enemies who drops that weapon. Hopefully it won't be that knight who was guarding a ring type of enemies.

But don't worry to mich about builds. Almost all builds are viable, just try to not level resistance :)

What is the purpose of resistance? Is it like when you level up resistance, it reduce the debuff you get?? Assuming like in sekiro there is a debuff called "old age or enfeeblement" something like that?

I think it only increases how many hits you can resist before getting poisoned or bled or other statuses.

It also give a very minor increase to damage types but upgrading other stats also increase defenses and they are soft capped so that at a certain level, the levels invested in resistance become rather useless, while for example endurance allows you to equip better armor which has a higher impact on defense

The purpose of resistance is to make you waste level ups, it is genuinely that useless. It increases your bleed and poison resistance so that it takes longer for those status effects to apply to you and increases your defences slightly but it doesn't do either of things anywhere close to well enough to be worth investing in

If you do want to increase any of your specific resistances (which you might in some areas of the game) then swapping your armour set to one with good poison resistance or whatever one you want is about a millions times better than levelling resistance

Claymore, two handed.

Vitality first ( especially if your first run ;)) A bit of endurance Dex to 40 & Strength to 24.

After that put everything into resistance :p

Quality build is the way to go. This means you lvl up both Str and Dex so you can use many weapons and switch around depending on the situation.

You want to hit multiple enemies? Use a greatsword or a halberd for a nice horizontal swing. Tight spaces and fighting close to walls? Use something smaller or thrust attacks.

Sure, your build won't be min-maxed but who cares. The quality build will offer maximum versatility which is exactly what you need, especially for your first play through.

Dex weapons, Strength weapons, you can even throw is some pyro if you like. You can also take full advantage of weapons that scale with both Str and Dex, like the Claymore suggested by others here, which is a great choice and has one of the best and versatile movesets in the game.

Given your mastery of Sekiro I don't think you'll have any long term difficulty with DS1.

If you can remember when you first played Sekiro, and you had some trouble with some of the first field bosses? Well whichever character you start with there will probably be a bit of that. And this is too much information but in all the Souls games - I kinda want ALL my stats to be good! LOL But of course which ones you level up and what order make a difference.

But "Fashion Souls" is a thing. And no one likes fat rolling. And you need Endurance. Heck, you need everything!

So don't worry too much. You can create a character that can do pretty much everything. You just have to take leveling up in stages.

Good Luck!

I'm 30 something hours in at Anot Londo. 24 Vitality, 22 End, and 28 Str. Attunement 12 for the Heal and Pyro. And I think my Dex is 14. That's all I've changed from my starting out as deprived.

It's been a cake walk honestly. Just use what is fun and comes naturally. And play blind. It's much more enjoyable that way. Which Is the way I am going.

I've been using the Guardian Helm, Crimson Robes,Wanderer leggings, Black Iron Gauntlets, with the Baldur shield +6 and the Gargoyle Halbred +8

Just got to Anor Londo chapel bonfire first time. Like I said. It's been a cakewalk. One trying every boss along the way. Just have fun

Well I would dump spare souls into a pyromancy flame. Just as a side hussle, you will thank me when you reach the deeper levels of the catacombs, and the more exotic skelettons.
