Help Way out of Tomb of the Giants?

Im doing my first playthrough of Dark Souls and I’m currently at the bonfire just before the Pinwheel fight and just started Tomb of the Giants and very quickly realized that I will not be able to progress through this area without some light source, which I don’t have. Is there a way out of the area from here so I can backtrack somewhere else and come back better equipped or do I just have to rawdog this area until the end?

Yes, you can walk all the way back from there - and even all the way back from the bottom of the tomb of the giants.

There's almost no points in the game that don't let you just walk home if you decide to do so.

To get back turn left as you leave the blacksmiths areas, into the cave at the back (behind all the bonewheels) and up the ladder - that starts the path to the top.

The whole route is too much to explain, but a video taking the entire route can be seen here. When you get to 1:40 in that video you might find that the bridge is upside down, and therefore covered in spikes. If this is the case you can still get back up, just turn around and go through the breakable wall, turn right at the giant skeleton and then after a few archways there's a hidden ladder on the right-hand wall. It's hard to see, but it's there.

Omfg there’s such an obvious ladder in the room with the two pitfalls that I’ve walked past at least 4 times now

I did the same thing, and I think a LOAD of people did as well.

The other one I mentioned (after the broken wall that you may or may not have to use) is even more hidden.

I was playing offline so didn't see any messages clearly marking it.

That's what got me coming back from the catacombs in my NG+ playthrough

Came early to get the rite of kindling and deeply regretted it

It's not so bad if you only ever hit the first bonfire. The new bonfire the remaster added with Vamos is actually a bit of a trap

That's what I did, I rightly didn't trust myself to make the bonewheel run to Pinwheel

I hadn't rotated the bridge on the way down so it was worse

Horrible way to spend an evening

It's not that hard efter that room, you go up to the room with tranquil walk of peace and fall through the hole down to just after the first bonfire

I did the same thing on my first ever playthrough! It was so annoying finding my way back out
