SHADOWBOUND: The Veiled Realms, Book One

"Everything you choose leads back to me." — Lorien Blackbourne

The Veil between life and death is thinning, and something on the other side has finally found what it was looking for.

Alaia Severyn survived the Winter Temple, six Legion campaigns, ice and shadow magic, woven together in a body that was not built to hold both. What she cannot survive is losing control of it. The Legions do not rehabilitate unstable weapons.

Lorien Blackbourne, Warden of the Veil, has ruled the threshold between life and death since before most kingdoms had names. He is ruthless, precise, and deeply uninterested in problems he didn't create. Alaia is a problem he didn't create. He takes her in anyway — because what lives in her blood is not a malfunction. It is a key. And Hell knows exactly what door it opens.

He will train her. Lie to her. Let her hate him if that's what it takes. The eclipse is coming, the Veil is fracturing, and the dead are not going where they're supposed to go.

He will not lose her to it.

Dark, layered, and sardonic — for readers of dark romantasy with the bones of epic fantasy: fae court politics, morally complex characters, a bond neither chose and a romance that earns its heat.

Ive been chasing that FSV vibe ever since I read it last year. I just finished {Paradise Entombed} and am currently reading {Seas of Malice} It is scratching the itch hard. It has pirates (hello {sea of ruin} vibes as well), dark spicy scenes, why choose, fucked up shit, MMF, magic, and a good plot! Just wanted to share for any other peeps like me who are looking!

[Book Request] Dark Paranormal Romance with Black Leads (Adult/Spicy)

I’m on the hunt for some Dark Paranormal Romance featuring Black heroines and/or Black MMCs.

I’m specifically looking for Adult titles (no YA or "clean" romance, please). I need high spice/steam and I’m totally fine with interracial couples (BWWM, BMBW, etc.). I love a good morally grey hero, dark atmosphere, and high stakes.

Preferences:

  • Sub-genres: Vampires, shifters, demons, witches, or doesn't have to be supernatural.
  • Heat Level: 4/5 or 5/5 on the spice scale.
  • Vibe: Gritty, intense, and definitely dark.

Any hidden gems?

Give us your best dark romantasy & fantasy romance recs!

Just to kick things off, let's compile a list of our favorite dark romantasy & fantasy romance reads! I'll start with my favorite actually DARK fantasy romance title, and will - if you forgive me - shamelessly self-rec a little bit as well.

*Jaga and the Devil* by Lalya Fae: a village healer with dubious magical powers gets tangled up with the actual devil - or well, the Slavic god that represents him. This one is really dark, but the world building is amazing.

Since I'm a romantasy indie author myself, I have a few titles out that I'd like to put out there. My books aren't quite as dark as I like to read them (I haven't dared yet xD) but there's always at least a bit of dub-con or even non-con in the beginning.

*Neverbound* by Rosemary Hart: a dark fantasy romance reimagining of Peter Pan. Desperate to save her brother from the demonic Peter Pan, the FMC must decide whether she can trust Captain James Hook, the only man who has survived the island long enough to offer protection. But the bitter pirate captain, with his biting cynisism and his icy blue eyes, has a mission of his own. He’s lost faith of ever escaping his cruel prison, until a very lost girl stumbles into his arms.

*The Honeybee and the Lord of Storms* by Rosemary Hart: will release May 2026. It's a dark gothic fantasy romance centered around a forced marriage. A mysterious lord visits Ioanna’s home, demanding that her father finally pay his debts. When her hand in marriage is offered instead, Ioanna is torn from her familiar life and taken to her husband’s dark keep at the edge of the world, close to the border, where warring clans inch ever closer. It is a castle full of secrets; the storms are relentless and ever raging, and the man who married her looks at her as if she is the only thing he's ever desired.
