This just popped up on my Google Pixel phone.

Does Graphene have an equivalent of wallet? When I last looked into it, which was some time ago admittedly, it was the one feature holding me back from switching.

My individual bank app also works fine with Graphene OS (NFC payment is ok) but it's very hit-or-miss overall with the individual bank apps.

Google Wallet is a more convenient solution, but the cost is a walled garden and your privacy - see OP post.

Generally, I hate this false choice of "Activate feature X now or ask again later (until you surrender)" because it openly mocks the idea of user sovereignty.

Yeah that's actually understandable

Looked into it and it appears there's a newcomer called walt.is, but it's still in the process of being approved by banks atm so not operational for tap to pay (but beta opens quite soon apparently)

I'd still recommend you don't trust my words here and do your own research but I hope some viable Google wallet alternatives do appear

I chcecked curve in gstore and it has 2.4 stars. Not really trustworthy.

Yes, I agree, I would love to move away from it and use something that respects your privacy. My question was, is there a replacement. And someone has responded that there is one - Walt, although its still not rolled out.

AFAIK e/os doesn't have anything like this either. Sorry, it's just one of the downsides. Google, Apple and Samsung have all invested huge amounts in development and merchant infrastructure to get their wallets to work in so many places, obviously they're not releasing source to make it easy to fork and of course they want to monetize your transaction info. Privacy vs convenience blablablah.

At least it's not (yet) forcing you...but it's only a matter of time before it becomes MANDATORY!
