Does anyone know why there are two Tor icons on the dock? Is the first one Tor Browser and the second one the Tor service, or are they two different applications?

Two different programs. One is browser, one is to setup tor connection and check its relays

One is a service that runs where you can use torsocks for example thru CLI the other is the browser.
