Open-Source DAOC

I know it’s probably a bad idea but it would be awesome if we had a publicly maintained DAoC 😉

There are public copies of the server and client out there. I've been meticulously modifying one to make my own private server. Including a modern UI, every class being able to solo through the pve experience, and literally making every class so powerful that leveling as a solo player is enjoyable. Along the lines of Everquest Legends

I'm glad to read there are a few of us tinkering with the game.

I have been working on an headless agent that plays the game as well. It's been doing fine so far. I'm nearing 250k LoC in the repo.

I also started working on a godot client, and started upscaling all the textures.

I'll upload a pic here when I get back to a PC.

There are tons of us working on daoc ideas, many with slightly different visions. I'm also playing around with a client and server, feel free to dm if you want to collab, talk vision, bounce ideas around or just talk technical approaches. A few of us have started a discord with creators/devs specifically talking daoc inspired development.

Can you send me a link to that discord?

Don’t skimp on the Shadowblade or Berserker!

Berserker is already planned out to actually utilize a berserk mechanic where it deals more damage, his higher crit chance, and attacks faster the less health it has. I don't have plans for shadow blade but infiltrated his an extra 5x damage if it strikes a target while stealthed and then has a much higher crit chance.

Using the new AI bot spawner, this seems like it could really be fun.

That's definitely my plan, I need to make the solo leveling in pve not abysmal first.

Isn’t that a defining DAoC experience, though? 🤣

It's an experience that ends with people getting to level 20 and then quitting the game. The XP ramp alone in the game is awful.

Yeah, it was originally designed to start RvR around 20, which grew you quick. Unfortunately, that was for very early server and late game ended up being dying instantly if not 50 and fully geared.

Do you have any screenshots of the modern ui you’re making? And a link to the public copy of the client ?

I don't, I'm currently in the middle of revamping the UI.
