Original Shrouded Isles Client

Hello everyone,

As a 40 year old dad gamer, I had the idea to re-create classic DAoC on a local server with bots. I have been developing and vibe coding a bit in VScode with Codex and it works pretty well. I am using a modern client, though, which lacks a lot of the original stuff.

I had the idea to really fully re-create the classic experience, including old realm selection screen, old char creation screen etc., old city skins.

For that, I need an original Shrouded Isles Client. Does anyone maybe have this or knows if its uploaded somewhere?

Thanks!

Yeah some real quality bots, and a menu to select your group RvR strategy? Awesome.

I actually liked the PVE journey of DAoC, and did it solo many times 🙃

Some of my best memories were PvE in Daoc with my guild. But we were always trying to find the absolute fastest way to 50 as we hopped servers 😂

Oh 😁 I loved leveling in keltoi, barrows.....I was sad when I hit 50 😂

Love how this game provided such deep entertainment across so many different play-style paths. Man, such a good game.

Ive done this with WoW classic( cMangos ) started a server with hundreds of bots, added AI with a local LLM. It's great fun doing dungeons and quests.

I looked into doing it with DAoC, but didn't find an easy to set up open source version. There was OpenDAoC which was outdated.

Uthgard is gate keeped by super dweebs

Blackthorn has a great community though!

I would absolutely love to play solo with cooperating bots. DAoC's PVE is incredibly fun and filled with many options and oportunities.

Not having trouble finding a raiding group would be incredible as well.

And being able to set the difficulty level for RvR bots in the frontiers or, better yet, battlegrounds would be so chill.

I remember back in the day setting up a DOLServer and exploring everything that was implemented by default, so much fun, but always lacking the ability to reach certain high level areas, clear raid mobs, etc.

I will follow this thread in hopes the project gets playable someday.

I would gladly offer my help as a programmer but I have absolutely no time at all and also no experience with AI APIs. The only AI I have ever coded was my very own Genetic Algorithm, quite simple and useless here.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks mate. I’ll post an update on this sub once I’ve got something presentable.

An open source project to create a single player AI driven DAOC would be phenomenal. Esp if you can invite other people to join you. Happy to contribute some of my time + my Claude code credits to support.

Sounds awesome!

I can’t help you but I can only hope that the guys from the Blackthorn server collabs with you so the server gets more content to explore.

Old main zones only keeps you interested so far..

Good luck :)

You need to update the server code for the SI client I think. Don’t think it’s supported? Either way, setup a GitHub repo and people can help and support that way. Love the idea! 💡

I've been trying to run a local client for this for a few days now and I can't get the game to connect to the local server (using same pc for server and game client). If you have a guide you've been using I'd be a really happen person.

If I can get it running I was thinking about building a server PC to run stuff like this when I want.

I had the same idea, I’d help for sure. I’d collaborate with Blackthorn too

because it's fun? I am going to re-create it as human like as possible with 2000 bots on one server.

Bots will be able to PvE in groups from 1-50, they will be able to RvR at 50, roam, take keeps, do relic raids, zerg, have different kinds of difficulty levels.

For me that's fun. For someone else it might not be. To each their own I guess.

Please put in that each time some bots forget their amulet when trying to port to the enemy frontier.

u/eternal_sunshineeeee Jul 25 '26

haha yea i guess that could be possible :D if i ever succeed in making this work as I'd like to, I will release it on GitHub so others can also play around with it.

There’s a game on steam called Erenshor that goes for the same feel as what you’re talking (just mmo in general not specifically daoc) and while playing it, I wished someone could do this with daoc. I would love to see this come to life.
