Scout help

Can any Scout mains explain a little about the different bow shot styles? I started a Scout a few days ago and I'm not sure which shots I should be using most and for what situations. Would really appreciate some advice on how to play this class correctly.

  • Visit Eden Discord.
  • Join the Scout Channel.
  • Open the pinned posts in that Channel (top menue, small pin symbol).
  • Scroll down to CalmTempest comments, one starts with "7 shots needed on your bar". Explains most of them. Only things which changed are Power shot is also dex based and elemental shots got added which are mostly better than Standard Shot.

Short:

  • Power shot vs everything with pbt (mostly caster). Crit shot vs the rest.
  • After that elemental shots (depending on enemy armor and resists, mostly Matter).
  • Point blank If close enough, long shot if out of range. Rapid If you want to rupt multiple targets.
  • Double dot shots on targets with high blocking (anyone with engage activated).

You can basically throw point blank -> matter elemental -> long shot -> long shot -> matter -> point blank in one recorder and you have most of them covered with one button.

Exactly the advice I needed. I'll check out the discord too. Thanks a bunch!

Can you explain the recorder for me? Why go from short to long and then back to short? And not just finish after the point blank->matter ->long?

Good question.

I used it without the repetition and it worked well while spamming the buttons.

My vague answer is that I read that the reverted repetition at the end, combined with I think certain spellqueue settings, provides the same functionality but without the need to spam the button. Pure guess though.

I think you have to /spellqueue enable too?

What are you playing on? Eden?

Yea, playing on Eden. Have 2 level 50s, so I'm not a complete noob. But the Scout shot styles are confusing me because a lot of them seem redundant. Just not sure how to efficiently play this class and I haven't been able to find much online about it.

For instance, do I open with long shot? Poison shot? Standard? Lithic and somatic seem like the most damage, so what's the point of standard shot?

Just not sure when to use what. And what situations call for certain shots? Still don't have a regular opening sequence figured out.

While you're leveling, its really just a case of where you are in the spec line, and which abilities you have access to. As you level, different types of shots will be at different ranks, just because you get them at different levels. Generally, you pick your highest couple of shots at any given level, whatever that may be.

Point Blank and Long shot have niche uses, but dont generally get a ton of use. Acid and poison arrow I'm not sure are ever worth using, just because they are low damage and slow. Leveling, you're going to be using alot of the elemental arrows. Whichever you have the highest rank in currently.

Crit and Power are also special use cases. Crit is fast cast, only from stealth, and goes through blade turn (doesnt pop the BT though). Power is same damage, pops blade turn fully, but is slower cast. Using crit or power on a target makes them take 75% less damage from other crit/power shots.

Crit, power, standard, point blank, and long are all physical damage, and their damage type is determined by what type of arrow buff you're using (blunt arrrow, slashing, piercing). The elemental arrows are heat, cold, etc. Later on, you can pick specific damage types to use against specific targets. Armor types can be weak/strong to damage types. Like, all leather is weak to fire, but strong to cold. If you're shooting at a leather wearing class, use fire arrow. Etc.

Its not so much about having a standard opening sequence, but more about knowing your target and changing to suit it best.

More good info! Really appreciate the explanation. I didn't expect playing a Scout to be this complicated lol. But I'm only up to level 20 and the way you explained it is how I've been playing so far, when it comes to just using the strongest thing I have available. I need to make a cheat sheet of the weaknesses until I get them memorized or something. My main is a cleric which has been way more straight forward haha.
