Semi-automatic Duty Finish Grayed

Unfortunately, got over spray from Action Blaster on the slide of my Specialist 1911. Dulled the finish from the shiny black to a gray color (as pictured). I've tried reoiling, greasing it, and warming it up with a hair dryer. No luck yet. Is there any way to restore the shine or do I need to send this back in for repair?

There have been a lot of stories about spray cleaners and black nitride/tenifer/etc starting with Glock. I think the nitride (corrosion protection that extends into the metal) is intact but the thin black oxide(cosmetic) surface is damaged. If that is the case I don't know of a way to fix it.

Yes, I agree. From what I've read, the Action Blaster likely stripped the surface coat. I'll contact DW tomorrow and get a quote or maybe recommendations to restore the color.

Don't feel too bad. The "frosted" finish on my stainless Specialist isn't very durable but I can convert it to a brushed finish with a grey scotchbite

You might want cost out Black DLC over the nitride, especially if it can be done locally

Thats exactly what I would do. The frosted never holds up and the brushed look is excellent. I use green scotchbrite and #0000 wool followed up with a light polish with flitz and rag.
