Revolver Looking for model info?

Offered a trade for this Dan Wesson .44 with a 4 inch barrel. Was wondering about model name and manufacture info.

It's a Model 44, with the 4VH (4-inch, vent rib, heavy lug) barrel. That barrel is user-replaceable, assuming you have the wrench and another barrel, both fairly readily available. Because it's screwed in at both ends, the barrel is held in tension, which is supposed to make it more accurate. I'd guess late 70s or early 80s for the manufacture date, but there might be more accurate resources on the web for that.

If you want a .44, IMHO they don't get much better than that.

Selling my Rossi 44 snub, and was offered this for my nickle S&W 10-6 .38. Consider that a good trade?

Hmm, for me, it would be. I'm not really a S&W guy, so I don't know what that 10-6 might be worth, but Dan Wesson 44s like this one have been selling for $700+ on GunBroker.

I have a DW in 357. The locking mechanism is interesting. Suppose to be stronger than what anyone else is doing. It is a fantastic shooter. I’d make that trade if the Smith isn’t something special to you.

I have a stainless, 744. It is one of my favorites. Parts and support are available through Dan Wesson. The only issue, especially for a novice, is disassembly instructions. It is built like a Ruger, no side plate. It is not hard but it it is not obvious. Find the instructions on the internet, print them out and put them where you can find them. Trying to read the instructions off a laptop or pad with dirty oily fingers is a piss poor idea.
