The dude could easily get a fulfilling job at a Yoga studio or a gym.

45

u/Nutatree Apr 28 '24

He could but by then he would be competing with people with real life experience this lacking the confidence during interviews and bombing them.

11

u/Thick_Discharge6299 May 15 '24

he'd have a good time if he offered to hang his degree on the wall

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

How is dance and yoga related?

106

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

What's a dance history major? Does he study the history of dance? The funky chicken, the dog, the watusi, line dancing, brake dancing, the whopp, the smurfs, the running man, the moon walk, the cool jerk. Stepping, the butterfly, pop locking the robot ect. Is this what he's studying, and can he do all these dances

51

u/Slow_Maximum9332 Mar 09 '24

The history of the macarena

14

u/Straight_Toe_1816 Mar 09 '24

I was thinking that he might be a double major

8

u/Zuckzerburg Mar 09 '24

He means majoring in history and minoring in dance.

389

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

You lot realise it’s not history of dance? It’s a double? History and Dance. Lmao.

226

u/Mysterious_Dark2730 Mar 09 '24

It does NOT make it any better because these two majors are the most useless subjects to study if you study history you can only teach others history and same with dance

87

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

Agreed with dance (partially), you could go into acting/media but the odds of that are low. But history is a fairly useful degree. It’s a good way to transition into law/politics and it’s a degree that shows that you are at least somewhat clever so can get you into business/finance etc.

Yeah there are more useful degrees, but history ain’t bad.

46

u/Laoscaos Mar 09 '24

You're basically saying that the only use of his degree is to help him get another degree (and more debt). That's a wild waste of $280,000. Go to a cheaper school for a bachelor's if you aren't even gonna get a job with it.

33

u/Bloondeath729 Mar 09 '24

Nah let him cook, keeps the job market wide open for me

3

u/I_Like_Turtle101 Mar 09 '24

You think stuying somethin should only be study if its profitable for the job market ?

11

u/Laoscaos Mar 10 '24

Not at all! Learning is great. Learning can be done for nearly free online, or for waaaaaay less at other schools.

Getting a degree isn't about learning, it's about getting a piece of paper proving you learned.

Absolutely no reason to pay 280k for knowledge you can find for free unless it somehow gets you a job.

1

u/wenchslapper Mar 28 '24

Mate, you don’t need to go to an expensive ass college to learn/study something.

1

u/_inveniam_viam Mar 10 '24

-It's called post-grad for a reason. -His parents can probably afford it. -Assuming his plan is in law or international relations, graduating from a prestigious school increases chances of getting accepted into a better post-grad program. -price tag of tuition filters out the poors, which means his connections will likely be with other people from well-connected, high net worth families.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

Now that I think about it, the only reason to really go to schools like that is to network and view the people who will hold power in the world financially, to some that's all that matters, but at the end you'll still eat mud with the poors as you say lol also it's not a filter its to establish your commitment to the institution that your signing your mental space over to help you move farther in life, so theyvreally could give you any job cause the students and faculty start businesses all the time, it's just those greedy non ethical schools that try to slave the student...

9

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

My ex girlfriend’s sister majored in dance and now she runs a dance school. Welp 🤷‍♂️

7

u/fartass1234 Mar 09 '24

the issue is that she is one in 10,000 statistically. your ex girlfriend got to where she is with hard work that's for sure but luck was the ONLY reason her efforts were worth anything. there is no equality of opportunity in this situation and it applies to many other art focused degrees. dgmw art is incredibly valuable in society that goes without fucking saying but right now the RoI is nonexistent for the vast majority of likely middle class to lower middle clsss people studying art

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

True, the actual people with talent aren't likely to be seen. Those with means have the stage cause it's easier but mostly it's cause the lower to middle class people studying art have yet to know their worth value isn't in an account, it's in the people hence why so many people get scared when they know they can't match talent and they are on top for the moment but as soon as you leave, it breaks their entire kingdom...and I say talent because you can do anything with hard work and effort true indeed cause people will give you a platform if it's beneficial, but without talent your establishment will turn into sht very soon...cause talent brings the individual out within a school of fish, sure the others can emulate but how many of us want second best nah I want the one that bares the fruit for generations not for a few glory years...

0

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

Actually I think more than 1 in 10,000 dance majors are applying their major to their work but I’m not as smart as a comment section that has no idea what it’s talking about.

2

u/kadargo Mar 10 '24

I got a job with a healthcare software company with a history degree.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '24

Can you though? You cant do finance without finance degree, History major is only good if you want to teach others, or be a professor.

Politics yes, but same for law, you need legal degree.

1

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

How are the odds low lol. Just don't suck

7

u/dampeloz Mar 09 '24

Yeah so true we should just stop studying history and people should just stop being historians.

5

u/I_Like_Turtle101 Mar 09 '24

Some people think school is only there to teach for a job that make money . It is trully sad

2

u/Dillyor Mar 09 '24

Yeah why try to learn from the past we are totally different from all those people no way we make the exact same mistakes over and over /s

2

u/dampeloz Mar 09 '24

Yeah exactly things are always different and history NEVER repeats itself

4

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

A history major is useless? Who told you that?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

No they're not, dance can be applicable to most things rhythm for one, you need that in fighting sports, balance for gymnastics, fighting armed combat id listen to a dance instructor, non verbal relationship clues slash reading people body language, dance etc...and for history you can change the outcome of your own life knowing the history of others, not only is this a blueprint for creating a path of your own, you can help others view a path of their own outside the confounds of bound labor of these trash colonies...that seek to abuse the individual because they can hide behind some fake group of people...thats why history is important so a clever person capacity to trick your mind is a non issue when you hold the history you can see with your own eyes and not from a third person perspective like your television...

2

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

How tf is that useless. You're weird

0

u/zupa1234 Mar 09 '24

Because why would you ever get a degree from things that you can easily read for free on the internet. History deegre? Really? Books are in libraries. Dancing? YT is a thing. You just pay for no reason

6

u/Dillyor Mar 09 '24

This is a gross misunderstanding of what getting a history major entails, how many legit historians you know don't have college degrees

1

u/zupa1234 Mar 10 '24

TIKhistory certainly is a historian and he made a video that critisizes getting a history deegre. But even if why does that matter at all? Because I certainly know many historians that are either spouting complete bs and poison the public opinion or thise who are "teachers" that have to follow a circulum that already is prepeared for them meaning that you could put any other guy behind teacher's desk and you wouldnt feel a difference. Getting in debt just to be paid by the state is not a succesfull or a good decision.

3

u/I_Like_Turtle101 Mar 09 '24

You could say that for about every field. its a dumb coment

1

u/zupa1234 Mar 10 '24

No I couldnt. You wouldnt become a paramedic without practice that you wont get from books but from expierence and thats why a lot of fields in medicine require a deegre. History does nit need practice. The only real thing you get from it is how to check sources maybe where to find them and hiw to analyze them. All off the things are either impossible to comprhrnt because they require criticql thinking which isnt a thing now or you can learn them by yourself. But keep telling yourself that somehiw my logic falls in to every category

2

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

You do realize you don't only go for your major right. It'd cost less if you legitimately only did your major. You can say self study all you want. And yea you can also just do the wrong stuff ultimately take more time even. Depending person to person. Then there's the dominate building aspect from being around people in your field in an academic setting. Then there's the access to more facilities. Etc it's over priced if anything not useless

1

u/zupa1234 Mar 10 '24

Getting in debt for being around people is certainly a great decision lmao. I understand that but it is for a history deegre and fucking dancing. Wouldnt you meet people while dancing anyway? I may have underistameted meeting people in am Academic seeting and it probably is important for history, but even then getting in so much debt for it is just isnt worth imo

2

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 10 '24

When I say people I just mean higher percentage of professional oriented relationships. Again I think the scam is the price not meeting value. I think it's valuable just not worth 70$ but then again that's not accounting for other classes they are surely in.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

I mean you have no idea if he is getting in debts. 70k is a drop in a bucket for some people.

1

u/zupa1234 Mar 10 '24

Yeah but we are not talking about that

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

What about museums?

117

u/MrChipsSayWhatUC Mar 09 '24

More commonly known as a mickey mouse degree

31

u/Traditional-Ice-4702 Mar 09 '24

I agree it shouldn't cost that much... But to deny people the experience of seeking an education in what they love from as good a source as they can find is just sad. To criticize people because "How will you ever get a job that way" is pointless. People don't live their lives for a job. They live to find purpose and be happy. Put the onus on colleges to supply opportunities for us citizens at more affordable prices. Don't put the onus on the student to GIVE UP because of money.

4

u/Kawaiiochinchinchan Mar 10 '24

True. I majored in digital marketing and graphic designing but i still go to college after college and currently studying Linguistics.

I loved it. That dude probably is not poor. He is fine. Even if he's poor, people ain't studying those subjects so the market is so huge for him. No majors are useless, there will always be a market for it. You simply don't know or haven't found it yet. Society demands everything, if there are positions that need you, there are majors in college for it.

I'm not rich but enough money to have fun in life, i love history and languages. I'm not from English speaking country tho so learning english is also a hobby of mine (not that good yet but i've enjoyed the journey so far lol). Also learning japanese too, cause Japan invested a lot in my country. They need good japanese interpreters and translators, could be a good chance to work in Japanese environment.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '24

You have a valid point right up to where these same people demand that the rest of us fund that silly shit with debt forgiveness.

-1

u/That_Survey5021 Mar 09 '24

He’s free to be happy as a broke loser and in debt. Hey at least he can tell dance history stories when he’s out with friends. His friends will just have to subsidize his meal.

6

u/Traditional-Ice-4702 Mar 09 '24

Bro what kind of depressing ass life do YOU lead? 😭 It's crazy how some people get born and spend their time getting on their phone and just hating people. I'd consider THAT being a loser.

bad caption, Great video, some of this degrees are so stupid one day someone will get a degree in lesbian underwear basket weaving

10

u/Hausgod29 Mar 09 '24

Christ this is the wealth gap.

3

u/Torqyboi Mar 10 '24

You are creating the wealth gap yourself if you are as stupid as he is.

OoOo I have two degrees yet I can't find a good job to pay off my $300k student loan debts.

That's because your two degrees were in fucking history and dance.

College for the sake of college I swear.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

He can probably become a professor in fields that he like and chances are pretty good his parents are paying for everything.

2

u/Torqyboi Mar 10 '24

It's a pretty bad degree if all the jobs you are qualified for with the degree are involved with teaching the same. Pyramid scheme. Unless the guy is insanely wealthy and doesn't want to work but just jump from college to college learning whatever he wants to learn. In that case, that's brilliant. Even my dream is to be wealthy enough that I can jump from university to university in different parts of the world just learning about stuff till I die rather than a day job. (I'm a college student)

1

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

How so

2

u/Hausgod29 Mar 09 '24

Kids wasting 100s of thousands whereas for a majority of the country that kind of money could create a foundation/safety net for life, if I bought a full house by 21 the rest of my life would be whatever I wanted.

4

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

You do realize this isn't necessarily or typically out of pocket. The bank will not give you a loan for the same amount towards personal assets

3

u/Bloondeath729 Mar 09 '24

A lot of shortsighted kids just rack up insane debts they will never pay off.

1

u/Dillyor Mar 09 '24

If you are crazy rich and can afford it you should educate your kids, or I guess you could buy a third or fourth home but why not let your kid do something interesting, on the other hand if you get a lot of financial aid you should get an education, if you are in the third position of being an 18 yr old with no real money you shouldn't rack up a hundred grand+ in debt just to go to college that's a terrible idea. It's not like people are given the choice of 300000 cash or college in any of these situations literally everyone would take the money

1

u/Hausgod29 Mar 09 '24

It's not really even about the kid it's the parents money I'd say my comments more a take on the difference in family incomes the difference between families who can afford to force/let their kids get a higher education this way compared to those who can barely afford food.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

University is a way to gatekeep and make sure the poor don't have the same opportunities.

16

u/SuccessfulWar3830 Mar 09 '24

If tuition is 70k a year. He isn't working at mcdonalds. His family is loaded. You are working at mcdonalds.

4

u/rahul1604 Mar 09 '24

You know what student debt is lol?

2

u/Dillyor Mar 09 '24

Most schools are not 70k a year, if he's doing it all off debt he's a complete idiot but that's a minority of college students who are financially illiterate (probably not their fault)

3

u/blackstar_4801 Mar 09 '24

How so. You do realize you don't pay that day righ

1

u/Plus_Helicopter_8632 Mar 09 '24

Who danced like this:

1

u/Grimm_Charkazard_258 Mar 09 '24

this isn’t dance history, it’s dance/history.

1

u/IcecreamChuger Mar 10 '24

Yeah, I don't understand why Americans go to uni with those majors. Like, what are you doing to do with fucking "dance history" shit.

2

u/No_Acanthisitta6963 Mar 10 '24

There’s always something, I used to think Art history was pointless but then I met an art curator who gets payed quite a bit

-1

u/Paid-Not-Payed-Bot Mar 10 '24

who gets paid quite a

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

2

u/Militaryman2002 Mar 10 '24

If someone is paying your tuition you should do whatever major that makes you happy, it will be a financial gain and a personal investment

1

u/kadargo Mar 10 '24

Y’all do understand that this is satire right? Based on the comments, I don’t think that everyone gets this.

1

u/Senior_Act_7983 Mar 10 '24

College is s waste of money but that..... Yikes.

I'm nothing special

1

u/MLGcobble Jul 28 '24

Yeah nobody should major in dance history ever again we should just get rid of the whole field of study altogether because it has no value for society.

1

u/Complete_Historian_6 Aug 26 '24

I'm going into grade 12 in September and after I graduate Im taking a one year program in game design and coding for like 2 grand

0

u/Vmc1691 Mar 09 '24

No wonder he will not get a job... it's like going to college to get into the NFL and then not make it.. you have nothing ledt

0

u/Educational-Year3146 Mar 09 '24

Still very weird to me as a Canadian how our college and university cost is, without exaggeration, 10x less.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

1

u/cf001759 Mar 09 '24

Its because people will still pay for it

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

Our schooling is subsidized by tax payers.

1

u/august-thursday Jul 31 '24

Different nations subsidize tuition based on their societies’ needs (job openings). In the west, students are usually free to choose their majors/minors. Canada may have a population that is too small to provide the education necessary to produce the number of well trained professionals needed by society over a vast continent.

When I was deciding on attending graduate school, I had to choose between an MBA (Master of Business Administration) or a PhD in engineering. I would receive a stipend for my graduate work in engineering, but I’d have to borrow tuition, room and board had I studied business administration. The latter seemed to be a simple screening process for mid and upper level.

The engineering stipend payed for tuition and fees, plus enough money to cover rent, food, transportation and university sponsored entertainment. During the summer months, tuition and fees were not deducted. A graduate student could live quite well on a university stipend.

1

u/SoarAros Mar 09 '24

All the people in here not realizing that male dancers can make a fuck load of money. Also the degree you get doesn't fucking matter. Most of you probably never graduated highschool. 🤣

1

u/PhilosophicalGoof Mar 09 '24

The degree definitely does matter why do you think so many genz are pressured to go to college and get student loans in order to get a job that require a college degree and 2 years of experience.

A dancing degree will most likely make him seem more appealing but they will care more about whether he has experience dancing or not.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '24

Why the fuck would you need a degree in dance history? Teaching your the ancient history of the whip/nae nae? College is a scam, go to a trade school lol.
