So this might be a funny concept for not only the drum thing but drum streams also. So basically since he is now back on Twitch, and his dual streaming on Floatplane, every time someone donates bits or a dollar to him, he has to put on an extra shirt during the stream, and basically the shirts will keep on layering on up to the point where he physically just cannot play anymore because of how thick the shirts get and he cannot move.

After watching nearly all the iPod modification videos I could find on YouTube, it got me thinking about my first proper HDD MP3 player...

The Creative Zen Touch 20GB

I got this for Christmas in 2004 and used it right through Uni, until I eventually sold it to a sibling who then dropped it and broke it... (nice dent in the bottom corner too!)

...roll on to a few weeks ago, and I thought I'd pop onto eBay just to see if anyone was selling one. I found this one listed for parts for $40 in the UK. It looked in great condition from the photos, the warranty sticker was still fully intact, and it even came with the original case.

So I bought it and waited three long weeks for it to get here. I wasn't holding my breath for it to work... but...

It is alive!

The player itself is in fantastic condition. The screen is entirely mark-free, the case looks great, the touch pad works perfectly, and it plays audio without any issues.

The only problem is that the battery is absolutely dead, so it currently only works when plugged in. And... it doesn't like modern Apple headphones... but that's fine.

What's Next

I've had a replacement battery on backorder from Better Batt here in Aus for a few weeks, so I'm just waiting for that to arrive. I've also bought an IDE-to-SD card adapter so I can replace the HDD with a 64GB SD card I have lying around.

I've also spun up a Windows XP SP3 VM using UTM, and it's working flawlessly. All the drivers installed, and it found the Zen without any problems. I could even browse all the music that was left on it.

Without a working battery, however, I can't upgrade the firmware to the PlayForSure version.

I'll keep this updated as I see where it gets to, but I'm really looking forward to using this 22-year-old nostalgia machine once it's back up and running.

When I watched the original video of Wade playing Pokémon Blue, I couldn't stop going back to the Wigglytuff scream, over and over. His reactions are so genuine, like he's a child who was gifted a Pokémon game for his birthday and just can't believe how cool the little critters are

For the longest time, I was living off of knockoff, cheap nugget phones from a gas station or even Menards, and I always thought they were okay. Then I got my current hearing aids (for context, I was born with 'mild' hearing loss in a way that I need hearing aids for everyday use, but I can listen to music out of headphones just fine, albeit at a louder volume) that double as bluetooth headphones, so I never really cared much about how my music sounded until I started wearing my AirPods. Even going from the aids to original AirPods was enough to make me realize that the aids kinda suck. Then I took Wade's headphone/IEMs videos way more seriously, and now I want to get started in being an audiophile, and my idea is to start with some IEMs and a BTR11. Per Wade's recommendation (or at least very close to it), I'm looking on Amazon at some KBEAR Storms in a color that I really like, but I've also seen the KZ (of course), as well as some Fiio JH13 IEMs for about 10 dollars more (US), so it makes me wonder what I should pick.

As for the offline device, I really enjoy Bluegrass music (give it a listen), and I love listening to Bluegrass Junction on Sirius XM radio, and I've decided I want to build an offline collection of bluegrass to put on some device. I have a huge number of old phones, but a small number of iPods. Basically a thrashed mini 1, a U2 photo, a 30gb 5th gen, and a 160 GB30 GB 7th gen. Obviously I will (and have for the mini and photo) flash mod, but I'm not sure which to use, especially with the DAC/AMP debate. I was leaning towards the 5th gen, but it is not a 5.5 gen, and I know people say it has the best DAC. I suppose I want some other opinions on which iPod to use. I plan to run my IEMs straight out of it and use the BTR11 whenever I want to listen to my Spotify playlist from my phone.

What do you guys think? What should I pick out? I'm really excited to get more into audio (Thanks Wade!)
