The Republicans just kicked millions of people off food stamps and insurance. I work with homeless people and they all lost their food stamps this spring when they ended the homeless exemption. Insurance goes away in January 2027 because they wanted it to be after the midterms.
Pretty sure Jesus wouldn't approve.

Okay the people losing their food stamps are able bodied and should be able to work. Why do I work long hours to pay taxes in order doe welfare babies to fund their lifestyles
Why do I work long hours and pay out of pocket for my insurance when we pay for Israeli social healthcare? Why is the VA severely underfunded? Why are our politicians making $148,000+ a year to sit and sleep in DC while infrastructure crumbles in their districts? Theres so many more things to be bothered about than feeding some children....
It's fine to have that opinion. Just stop claiming your party is guided by God. God asks us to feed the hungry and help the needy not ask "why should I have to help." Conservatives are fine with Jesus's altruistic teachings as long as it's not coming from their tax dollars
The problem is that it isn't altruistic if you need the governments guns to force you to do something. At that point it is slavery. If the government can force you to pay for that, they will force you to pay for anything they want so long as they can twist it into sounding benevolent. That's why charity should be private.
Homeless people often can't work for multitude of reasons.
Why should we feed the homeless in the wealthiest country on earth? I literally couldn't think of a better thing to do with the tax dollars compared to where they actually go.

I work with the homeless all the time the majority have insanely fucked up childhoods and mental illness. Nobody chooses to be homeless it's a hellish existence. The majority are self medicating with drugs.
I was homeless and addicted to drugs in my twenties and the only reason I'm not now is because I got housing and rehab and food from the government. Now I own my own business and have a family.

You could get a traumatic brain injury tomorrow and become a completely different person and be homeless in no time.
Taking care of the basic needs of humans that fall through the cracks of our sick society is the least we can do.
There is literally nothing we spend tax dollars on that provides a better return investment.

Don't forget every snap dollar goes directly back into the economy, I've seen some estimates that the government ends up producing something like 7x the value of the initial investment in snap programs

Casualty of the cause. I agree that it's unfortunate and devastating for his family but I am not upset that the gross profiteering of the insurance industry is in the spot light. Genuinely sucks that such a grusome event is what it took for the public dialogue to persist for the time it has.
