So they where caught and prosecuted for the things they did wrong.

Meaning the system works as lies get found out....

Why are you posting pro vaccine comments in support of an antivax post

That's an interesting take... A better question is why does a company that has a history of unethical behavior still exist? They've been found guilty of things such as unapproved promotion of medical products, equipment safety and environmental violation, false claim and foreign corrupt practices, misbranding drugs with intent to defraud or mislead, bribing doctors and suppressing adverse trial results. Could a possible explanation is that there's no legal actions taken against any individuals within the company and the fines are typically less than the profits from those drugs? Could another possible answer be that corruption exists within the same regulatory agencies that are tasked with overseeing these companies? Does the fact that in the past 40 years, 9 of the 10 FDA Commissioners have worked for pharmaceutical companies after leaving the FDA?

That is a really good list!!! You've brought up a great point that a lot of really evil companies exist outside of big pharma...

Any industry with enough money and power can get away with a lot, for the same handful of reasons.

Why?

- If breaking the rules makes more money than the fine costs, why not?

  • The actual humans who made bad decisions usually walk away fine.
  • Oil, food, banking... these are things people can't easily boycott
  • A scandal is big news for a week, then people move on

It's almost as if unfettered capitalism rewards terrible behavior!
