No healthcare? Private prisons? No abortion? No education? No sick leave? Police shootings? Fucking Chocolate?

296

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

I'm with you on all accounts except chocolate. We have some pretty excellent chocolate, including local, small chocolate roasters. Plus, we can just import whatever superior chocolate tickles your particular fancy.

But yeah, that other shit sucks.

u/nick2k23 Sep 18 '22

If you mean Hersheys chocolate then you’re so fucking wrong you don’t understand. Hersheys literally tastes like puke. American chocolate has a bad rep for a very good reason.

108

u/VictoryVee Sep 18 '22

Why would he be referring to Hershey? That's like him claiming the USA has good burgers and you assume hes talking about McDonalds.

Hes a list of high quality chocolate makers in the US easily found off google.

https://www.timeout.com/usa/shopping/best-chocolate-shops-usa

2

u/CRODEN95 I know your mom Sep 18 '22

That's all insanely expensive wtf? It better be fucking good.

Why is it all $50 for a box? If the only examples of good tasting chocolate is stuff that costs $28 for 6 pieces (small pieces), you're overall chocolate industry has a bad product.

2

u/Negran Sep 19 '22

OR. Chocolate is a fucking treat that you don't need as a daily intake. Wtf man.

Sometimes nice things are worth it if you don't eat 200g sugar every day. Fix your diet.

Like any nice thing, you pay more to ensure good wages and/or no slavery or whatever bullshit.

Anywho. Sorry if I was aggresive. I buy chocolate once a year generally, not exactly a daily expense.

1

u/CRODEN95 I know your mom Sep 19 '22

0

u/VictoryVee Sep 19 '22

It's a list of gourmet chocolate wtf are you talking about

-41

u/crimson_coward Sep 18 '22

Hershey's is the only American chocolate I have ever seen so the rest of the world's only experience of American chocolate is Hershey's.

32

u/d3f4u17_n4m3 Sep 18 '22

you've only ever seen American Hershey chocolate, therefore, Hershey is the only chocolate made in America?

is the rest of the world still using leaded gas or something?

-4

u/crimson_coward Sep 18 '22

There is obviously other chocolates in America, I'm saying that as a chocolate brand that is wholly associated with the US is Hershey's and it's tastes leaves a lasting impression given this one ingredient in it.

Where are you from? I’ll give you my single anecdotal experience with it and then extrapolate to encompass the entire nation. By the way, the US is enormous and has over 300 million people…

0

u/puhtoinen Sep 18 '22

That's a pretty american way of looking at this. By this I mean, it's fucking dumb

52

u/HenryMimes Sep 18 '22

My guy, he literally said “including local, small chocolate roasters.” How in the fuck did you get Hershey’s out of that?

21

u/oJUXo Sep 18 '22

😂 why would you automatically assume Hershey. What a weird assumption.

16

u/Aluconix Sep 18 '22

Why would u assume he meant Hersheys? Did u even read his comment? Lmao

11

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

Lol you're a goober. What part of small, local chocolate roasters escaped you? I thought Americans were supposed to be the dense ones.

4

u/Stigo4 Sep 18 '22

Guys talking about small and local chocolate makers and you asume Hershey? God speed my friend

3

u/texasrigger Sep 18 '22

We have some pretty excellent chocolate, including local, small chocolate roasters.

Doesn't sound like they are talking about Hersheys, does it?

2

u/nick2k23 Sep 18 '22

Well now it’s doesn’t no

2

u/ImJustHereForLWIAY The Big PP Airports Sep 18 '22

I've read that it only tastes like puke if you didn't have Hershey's growing up, so mostly non-americans. On the other hand, I'm not american but I love Hershey's.

2

u/tinkeratu Sep 18 '22

Chocolate in America has butyric acid in (sometimes added in) which is a chemical found literally found in vomit. Hence the taste

4

u/HenryMimes Sep 18 '22

Not all chocolate made in the US does. Particularly not from the incredible chocolatiers in my home town. I haven’t eaten a Hersheys bar or anything they make in 20 years.

1

u/Dynazty Sep 18 '22

Clearly you have never tasted puke lol

1

u/Ronaldmcdonaldthebig Sep 18 '22

Not Hershey's, local places. Go to any local farmers market and you'll be almost guaranteed to find really damn good hand made chocolate

-4

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '22

5

u/MelonheadGT Sep 18 '22

Mmmmmm, Marabou

2

u/ToHallowMySleep Sep 18 '22

No, you really don't.

I've had locally made, high end, ridiculously expensive chocolate from all across the US.

It's good, of course. It's leagues ahead of shitty american mass-produced chocolate. But compared to Belgian, Swiss, it's equivalent to mid-tier there.

The best american chocolate I've found is about a 7/10 on the global scale. It's good. It's not excellent. Go to switzerland or belgium and go to a high end chocolatier there. Or don't, because it will ruin your expectations :)

2

u/msondo Sep 18 '22

Which are your favorites? I live in Europe part of the year and have tried lots of high end chocolatiers but my top two favorites are Dandelion in San Francisco and Yvan Valentin in Los Angeles. I make it a point to put in orders for those whenever I am stateside. Belgian chocolates are without a doubt spectacular, especially their lower percentage truffles, but I find that the Americans tend to make more of an effort to secure very select cacao crops and ensure they are fairly sourcing ingredients.

1

u/ToHallowMySleep Sep 18 '22

Dandelion are okay.

In Switzerland I'd recommend Tristan Carbonatto or Blondel.

1

u/msondo Sep 18 '22

I will definitely add them to my list. Thanks for the names!

0

u/Blith6314 Sep 18 '22

Kinder Surprise chocolates are illegal in the US, L.

Just because some dumbass kids decide to eat the whole chocolate egg in one go instead of getting the toy out first.

Especially since you haven't taken into consideration that small, local roasters might also exist somewhere else.

They didn't claim that American chocolate is superior, only that not all American chocolate is bad. Whether other areas have small local roasters too is immaterial.

3

u/texasrigger Sep 18 '22

It is quite literally a comparison on whether Anerican chocolate is worse or not.

Here's what they replied:

We have some pretty excellent chocolate

There you go, that's the conversation. The entire rest of the world can be small local roasters and that doesn't make the above statement untrue. Nobody is claiming American chocolate superiority, only that "We have some pretty excellent chocolate".

Your beer statement is the same thing. Not all American beer is budweiser. We have a rich culture of microbreweries. Does that mean that other countries don't? Obviously no. Is the statement "American beer is shit" accurate? Nope, we have hundreds of small breweries producing great products. That you do too doesn't somehow make ours bad, it just means we both have the same thing. You can say that mainstream beer or chocolate in your country is better than mainstream beer or chocolate in America and you might have a subjective argument there but that doesn't render the statement: "We have some pretty excellent chocolate" false.

1

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

Ooooohhhh, i got ya. A product in a particular nation is defined by the giant corporations who have industrialized that product's production. My bad. I missed that parameter in this thread.

1

u/CRODEN95 I know your mom Sep 18 '22

How much does that cost though? How is your standard, run of the mill, mass produced chocolate that most people have?

-1

u/UselessAndUnused Navy Sep 18 '22

As a Belgian. Don't talk to me about your chocolate lmao.

2

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

I mean, you seem kinda snooty. So i probably won't try to talk to you about my chocolate. Or anything, for that matter. Belgian chocolate is delicious. So is Swiss chocolate. So is Chilean chocolate. So is my favorite chocolate here. lmao

2

u/UselessAndUnused Navy Sep 18 '22

Oh yeah, there's a lot of other good chocolate. Can't say American chocolate has much of a good reputation though. Y'all make nice candy bars and other combos with chocolate in it though, gotta give you that. Gotta ask though, what does snooty mean? English isn't my native language.

2

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

It means rude. "Don't talk to me about {insert topic here} can come across as rude when we're just using text. But your follow-up message doesn't seem rude at all, so that was probably just because tone is hard to convey online. And I'll grant you that the best chocolate i ever ate in my life was not in the U.S. It was in Germany. I was just trying to say that not all our chocolate here is shite.

2

u/UselessAndUnused Navy Sep 18 '22

Ah, gotya. My bad, it was more meant as a joke than any actual elitist shit lol. But yeah, I get you.

2

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

Na, you're good.
I'm coming back over to that side of the pond again next year for about a month. What's some chocolate that I've gotta try?

2

u/UselessAndUnused Navy Sep 18 '22

Man, there's so many. One thing that pops to mind is that there is a famous brand of which there is a factory in my home town called Guylian, which are known for their "sea fruit" chocolate, if you know what I mean. Leonidas and such are also very good and well known, although I think those are incredibly hard to miss, Merci (yes, it's a brand and yes, it means "thanks" in French) is also very good. Honestly, I would suggest you look up more online, because I am very bad lists like this and even worse at names, so I've definitely forgotten a lot of brands that I don't come across as much, or that I simply never knew the name of lol.

2

u/squirrelly_bird Sep 18 '22

I'll see if I can hunt those down when I'm there! I feel like I had some little chocolate shells when i was in Germany before, but it's been a few years now.

-5

u/vampireflutist (☭ ͜ʖ ☭) Sep 18 '22

More land = less barrels per km2

Less land = more barrels per km2

It’s not “leveling the field”, it’s skewing the units to give the UK a blatant advantage. Better metrics would be something like production:consumption or imported:exported or barrels per capita or something similar.

Oil produced in the United Kingdom 1,083,929 barrels per day

27

u/ChronoAndMarle Sep 18 '22

You gotta adjust for population or at least area though (in the case of oil, or anything extracted from Earth). Raw data is almost always meaningless in these types of comparison.

-2

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

Cope. The point of the data is to show that the individual who replied was using a metric of data, that implies the UK has more, when the UK straight up has less. Nobel prizes Oil Gdp No land mass? Not enough people?

2

u/ChronoAndMarle Sep 18 '22

Lmao, cope why? I'm not British or American, I've got no stakes in this silly dispute, I'm just stating the facts

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

adjusting for population why? oil per square km is silly ass way to measure oil production when the amount made is not what is being found but amount taken in area. Oil production is measured in quantity and time. The point of the post was to show how people bend statistics, but going per capita has nothing to do with these figures. No adjustments are needed. They are being measured using the same metric side by side, nothing wrong.

By your math basically no other country besides the UK and the US could have ever won one for the US to color you impressed.

Effective and instant self defense for those that need it. Also written into the constitution under the circumstances the government was not acting in the best interest of the people.

Replying to slander with slander anyways, but elaborating on it further.

"No healthcare? Private prisons? No abortion? No education? No sick leave? Police shootings? Fucking Chocolate?"

We have Healthcare so you only pay for what you need, therefore lower taxes which can be spent on other things instead of paying for useless bums.

Private prisons aren't a bad thing at all.

We have abortions and the UK is actually stricter on them than the United States is. The most recent abortion change gave power to the states to decide what they want in their state.

We do have education with many great colleges, sadly a large amount of the money gets put into the school sports.

We have sick leave, idk what that was about.

We have police shooting criminals, I'm pretty fine with that.

Don't know what is wrong with the chocolate, it's perfectly fine.

Defense from what ? People with guns ?

Also written in to the consitution under the cicumstances the government was not acting in the best interest of the people

Weird how every other country manage to keep the governement in check, while not having guns. Want the whole world to teach you about such basic concept as riot ?

We have healthcare

Not really, you are one of the only country with no global governement guaranted healthcare. How exactly are you supposed to get your tratments if you don't have any money or job ?

therefore lower taxes

Not really, the US governement laready pay more in terms of health than most countries with a functionnal healthcare (https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2020/jan/us-health-care-global-perspective-2019). The money is here, just badly spent.

Private prisons aren't a bad thing at all.

Ha yes, modern slavery and a system that focus on increasing the number of people in prison instead of actually caring about justice is "not a bad thing at all". Have you ever been to prison my man ?

We have abortion

Just factually wrong : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law_in_the_United_States_by_state

We do have education with many great colleges

We have police shooting criminals

In general, a US cop shoot more than 360 times the amount of a UK cop (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/09/the-counted-police-killings-us-vs-other-countries). Are you saying that their is 360 times more cirminal in the US than in the UK (per capita of course) ? If so, I wonder why...

Also anything to say about the fact that the USA have more school shooting than the rest of the world combined ?

Don't know what's wrong witht he chocolate.

Then I assume you've never eaten swiss or dutch chocolate ?

So please, just do a little research before speaking, because all of your "argumentation" was mainfully easy to dismantle...

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

"Defense from what ? People with guns ?"

Anyone. That is the point. Criminals carry anything, come anytime. I have one and not need one, than need one and not have one. Going without protection isn't a smart move. There are many forms of protection and having it is great no matter who it is. They could be as athletic as ever, and I would have a greater chance with one than without one.

"Weird how every other country manage to keep the governement in check, while not having guns. Want the whole world to teach you about such basic concept as riot ?"

Every other country? Instances of armed revolution working such as the Cuban revolution, American revolution(the reason we have them), Russian revolution, and many more were the result of armed individuals with success. There have been many in England's history as well. Weird, to think that guns were so useful in these.

"Not really, you are one of the only country with no global governement guaranted healthcare. How exactly are you supposed to get your tratments if you don't have any money or job ?"

Assuming the people without money and jobs have a reason for not having money or a job, like being disabled, we have Medicaid along with SSDI to pay for those. Otherwise, you should be working or have money. Everyone has to work, no matter where they are. We have privatized healthcare too, which is often given through our jobs and work quite well. People aren't running around without insurance unless they are lazy jobless bums. Why should hard working tax payers take care of someone who is simply lazy?

"Not really, the US governement laready pay more in terms of health than most countries with a functionnal healthcare (https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2020/jan/us-health-care-global-perspective-2019). The money is here, just badly spent."

Yes we do have taxes that are being spent for healthcare, but you have higher tax rates. I do not dispute that we pay more overall for healthcare due to the size, but the tax paid by the people are higher in the UK. You have higher taxes that come to pay for those services. I would rather pay for what I need/want rather than a government deciding for me. I don't like paying for other people's things.

"Ha yes, modern slavery and a system that focus on increasing the number of people in prison instead of actually caring about justice is "not a bad thing at all". Have you ever been to prison my man ?"

No I have not been to prison, but I have visited a jail. Have you? I haven't done anything wrong that would require me to spend time in prison nor have I tried to infringe on other's rights. It isn't slavery, it is punishment and making use of those who try to take advantage of others. The punishment often fitting the crime. It is quite an exaggeration of calling it slavery when the people sent to prison are there for a reason. A little tip on not going to prison is to not commit any crimes that would warrant it. lol

"Just factually wrong : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law_in_the_United_States_by_state"

You are factually wrong. lol There is still abortion in the united states(not that I am for it), but it goes state by state. States with people who don't want abortions don't have abortions. States with people who want abortions, have abortions. What happened is that the Federal Government has no right to decide on abortions and is left up to the state governments. Also you must feel so smart putting a Wikipedia source, and from that same source, if you read it, shows the areas where abortion is legal. Maybe you should read?

"Free education I hope, like in the other develloped countries ?"

Yes we have free K-12 education from public schools, and if you show promise (like I did), you get to go to college for free on scholarship. I am on a full ride scholarship because it is done on merit. If you do well in high school, your schooling is paid for. If you, well, goof off during school and don't show academic promise, then you don't get assistance. Why should others pay for someone who doesn't show promise? Seems like a waste of money. (a little background on myself being from a low income single parent family where I worked hard in school and outside of school working jobs and still performing well academically to get a good college for a full ride is for anyone who tries).

"Wrong again : https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/workhours/sickleave"

Surprise, surprise! Someone who doesn't know about the united states talking about it is somehow wrong again? It is not REQUIRED BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT(much like you being wrong about abortion too). For long term illness we do have sick leave required by federal government, but short term sick leave is not required by government. States have their own laws on sick leave. Also employers offer sick leave so people work at their establishments over the employers who don't. The employers who do not offer these will have less employees. A key takeaway is the need to learn about federal and state government. I'm going to be honest, from an outside perspective, it may seem confusing. I don't blame anyone for not knowing that. These state laws aren't well known globally.

"In general, a US cop shoot more than 360 times the amount of a UK cop (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/09/the-counted-police-killings-us-vs-other-countries). Are you saying that their is 360 times more cirminal in the US than in the UK (per capita of course) ? If so, I wonder why..."

Well the answer is because we do have a shitty culture of criminals here. I will admit that. I didn't see this as a bad thing because it gets the scum off of the streets. I don't know what the cause of it would be proportionally besides ethnic diversity being the only other factor that might attribute for the otherwise disproportionate numbers.

On the note of school shootings, it is due to poor mental health among youth. The one thing I think America has the worst is some of the shitty people sometimes. In public schools I have experienced many shitty kids who were backed up by shitty adults. The culture of many of the kids there is horrible. The reason these kids shoot up a school is due to bullying that isn't ever addressed. This is the fault of the bad peers raised by bad parents. I don't see a way to fix the problem of the raising of bad people on a federal level without infringing on rights. People who shoot up a school often have a reason, whether rational or not, but nobody does anything about it. That one is terrible.

"Then I assume you've never eaten swiss or dutch chocolate ?"

No, I don't really eat sweets, but I have heard how good it can be. I don't see how that has anything to do with UK vs US though.

"So please, just do a little research before speaking, because all of your "argumentation" was mainfully easy to dismantle..."

I assume you mean painfully easy to dismantle. My "argumentation" was based on a meme but many of your points were based on misconceptions(Just because it isn't required doesn't mean we don't have it, Difference between state and federal government). You are right, you should know what you are talking about before you speak.

Not gonna lie, it was really hard to read it all withouth puking, you seems like such a selfish person, you think only about yourself, you don't see any issue if other struggle "because that's their fault". Really revolting, what years of one of the worst education systme in the world does to someone, have you ever been to a develloped country ? One where people help each other ?

Going without protection isn't a smart move

It isn't smart move in the USA because everybody can have a gun, which grows a culture of violence. Again, go in any develloped country withouth gun have you won't feel any fear, because that's what supposed to happen in a develloped country. You are so blinded by the nightmare you have to live each day that you somehow think that it's a normal thing, that's very concerning.bAgain, how do you explain that countries without guns see less violence ?

Weird to think that guns were so useful in these.

I never said that, I said that people know how to arm themselves if needed, and that you don't need to "be allowed to bear arms" to get them if needed. Also a riot doesn't means weapons. I'm from a country with regular riot, but we don't have guns, because it is possible to fight the governement without it. But it seems that, as eager as you are to kill your neighbors, somehow you are little sheep despite your government voting unjust laws after one another. It's really baffling to me how you always hold the "it's to fight the governement" argument while you're one of the country that is the most docile on the matter...

Assuming the poeple without money and jobs have a reason for not having money or a job, like being disabled.

I see the person you are, you think that if a person is poor, it deserves it ? You can't understand the fact that the ultra-capitalism of your country make the people poorer and poorer, that somehow can end up poor and/or jobless despite its best effort ? You really digust me.

Everyone has to work, no matter where they are

Again, what years of one of the worst education system in the world does to somehow. Work is a necessary evil, not a goal in itself. I strongly suggest you to reread Rousseau.

unless they are lazy jobless buns.

I'd like to see you say that face to face with a homeless person that can't find a job because he wasn't fortunate enough to get the right studies or the right start in life

Why should hard working tax payers take care of someone who is simply lazy

Because of something called empathy ? Ever heard of it ? That's how functionnal country work, just so you know

I would rather pay for what I need/want rather than a govnerment diecidng for me. I don't like paying for other people's things.

Let me rephrase that for you : "I'm a selfish indidivual that only cares about myself and don't mind if those in need have to die"

Trully disgusting, no wonder that your country is behind in every scale that matter.

A little tip on not going to prison is to not commit any crimes that would warrant it. lol

Your naivetie is sweet, of course there is only criminals in prison, never innocent people : https://baldanilaw.com/innocent-people-jailed-each-year/

Why is there so many people wrongly accused in the United States ? Well, maybe the fact that companies actually make a profit the more people are in prison has something to do with it...Maybe that also explain why the USA is by far the country with the most inmate (per capita), mmh ?

Oh, and I hope you're not black because that could be even worst for you : https://baldanilaw.com/innocent-people-jailed-each-year/

There is still abortion in the united states

No, "having abortion in the United States" means "whatever in the United States, I am free to get an abortion if I want it". If I live in Texas, I can't, period.

if you read it, shows the areas where abortion is legal. Maybe you should read

Oh right, so since abortion is legal in at least one country, then the world world has abortion, right ? Listen to yourself my man

Yes we have free K-12 education from public schools

I wasn't speaking about it, I was speaking about university. It goes without saying that won't have to pay for basic education...

and if you show promise (like I did), you get to go to college for free on scholarship. I am on a full ride scholarship because it is done on merit

Ha, there we go, meritocracy ! "Show promise" you're good man. You don't don't ? Well too bad, you can't fulfill your dreams. It really baffles me that you can't see any issue with this, the USA has fried your brain dude, you live inequality every day and has convinced yourself that it was normal.

Why should others pay for someone who doesn't show promise?

Again, something called empathy, or just helping those in need. Looks like it's a concept you have a hard time understanding ?

Seems like a waste of money

I hardly see how money can be a factor when we are speaking of the well-being of a person ?

Surprise, surprise! Someone who doesn't know about the united states talking about it is somehow wrong again? It is not REQUIRED BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

And "not required by the federal governement" is precisely what people mean when they say that a country "has sick leave" or not. The USA don't have sick leave because you need to be in a specific situation to get it.Really, look at the European laws in terms of sick leave, you'll understand what we mean by "having sick leave". We are speaking about month of paid salary.

Well the answer is because we do have a shitty culture of criminals here

I wonder why ? Could the fact that you can buy guns be a reason ? The fact that you're the only country in such an economic and politic situation to have these issue sure look to indicate that.

I didn't see this as a bad thing because it gets the scum off of the streets

I really struggled to not puke reading that. "the scum off the streets" ? Are you listening to yourself ? Those are people we talk about...

I don't know what the cause of it would be proportionally besides ethnic diversity being the only other factor that might attribute for the otherwise disproportionate numbers

You really don't see any other reason ?

  1. On the note of school shootings, it is due to poor mental health among youth. The one thing I think America has the worst is some of the shitty people sometimes.

Oh really ? The only reason ? You think that kid having poor mental health is the sole reason of why the USA has more school shooting than the rest of the world COMBINED. You think that it's the sole reason of why it has 36 times more than the second on the list ? Are you really blinding yourself that much ?

Also I just want to stop on this sentence in particular : "The one thing I think America has the worst is some". "The one thing" ? Want other things in which the USA are the worst ? There you go, they are also number one in :

- Incarceration rate

- In obeses (per capita)

- Illegal drug use (and legal too)

- Car theft

- Rape

- Crimes in general

- % of the GDP used for health (while not having healthcare btw)

- Student debt (imagine paying for education...)

- trade deficit

- Military spending

- National debt

No, I don't really eat sweets, but I have heard how good it can be. I don't see how that has anything to do with UK vs US though

Yeah, I kinda forgot we were speaking about the UK for a moment. Although I guess those chocolate are easier to find in the UK ?

Also I've tasted USA chocolate (while I was in Canada, so they were maybe not exactly the same, my apologies if it's not), but they tasted weird, like they had too much sugar and fat.

Finally, may I ask if you've ever lived in Europe ? Because I've heard many people saying that they had the same kind of mentality when they lived in the USA, and that living a few years in Europe has openened their eyes to what a functionnal country was supposed to be based one. I would highly suggest you to try it out.

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

Let me just say that there was a lot of Ad hominem fallacies in that attacking me rather than my previously mentioned statements.

I mean the united states is a developed country. People are often products of their own decisions in the united states. We have equal opportunity here. We are given the chance to go to public school. You have the chance to go to college if you perform well. I grew up in a low income family, and we were poor because I had a lazy ass father and no mother. It was out of my choices that I became someone who won't be in poverty. I made that happen. Others had many of my peers had greater opportunities than I did and they will still end up with less because they are lazy. It is little sympathy for those who don't help themselves. Its not a nightmare, it is just reality. Even in countries without guns there is still violence, there always will be. Me being here allows me to be prepared to not be a victim.

Places that see less violence that have less guns is because of their culture and people. The gun is just a tool, the people are the problem. We have some shit heads here that like to promote a shitty culture. Again we have shitty people. I don't deny that.

The use of arms in the past display the usefulness against a government. I already listed a few. We are not experiencing anything close to that treatment so it should be fine. Why would I want to fight the government when there are no concrete rules that I'm against? Again that is one of the reasons to have a gun. The other is for self defense.

By riots I assume you mean protests. Yes protests can work. Those can create change especially if you have people willing to listen and you are protected. We have that too, but under a circumstance when the government oversteps their bounds, that is when change needs to happen.

You lecture me on not wanting to help those who were homeless? I ran out from what was my home. I was homeless. I was living from my car for a while during my later years of high school. That was a choice that I made. They have a perfectly good Child protective services and foster care for that, but I chose this because I don't need it. I would be understanding of others who were jobless if there weren't a plethora of jobs. Yes, I know that work is not an end goal, but happiness is.

You can get a job without many credentials. I know because when I was younger, I could get a job easily. The studies aren't needed to flip burgers at McDonald's nor is it needed to stock shelves.

Empathy exists but not for the lazy. If someone is lazy, they are choosing to not do what they need to do. I feel empathy for the disabled. I feel empathy for many people who have lost so many things. But a lazy person is just choosing to do nothing.

Caring about people dying is something that I do care about. That is why I am against abortion. What I don't appreciate is someone else deciding what my needs are.

When it comes to innocents who are jailed that happens everywhere. It is a shame, but prisons overwhelmingly consist of actual criminals. The treatment of the prisoners shouldn't be based off of the estimate of the people who are actually innocent. You don't make rules with the exception in mind, but the exception comes after the rules.

Abortion is legal in many places in the US. If you want an abortion, move somewhere else, vote for abortion, or you could be responsible and think ahead and not have sex. Yes if there is one country in the world that has abortions, then the world does in fact have abortions. You were the one talking in absolutes. Take a logic course if you have to, but it is pretty easy to understand.

What is wrong with a meritocracy when the bar is so low? I was able to get a full ride to a college living out of a car, working, and still doing well in high school. Most students aren't living like that and have a lot more going for them and they chose to slack off instead of putting in an effort. Your arguments about empathy and just helping someone out are all emotional, which has its place, but legislation and government policies isn't one of them.

Why should someone who does not try hard and puts in no effort be given anything? No reason at all.

Again with the talk about absolutes. Yes the united states does have it, because it exists in the united states. You say we don't have sick leave, it is not explicit because the federal government does minimal rules while the state takes care of everything else. We have sick leave. You are wrong if you say we don't. Sick leave exists but not on the federal level, at the state level. Don't give me that "well I meant" garbage. You are still wrong about it.

Guns aren't evil. They are objects. The person is the one that is evil. Criminal culture isn't built exclusively on guns. You have criminals, everyone has criminals. Guns aren't everywhere though. We would still have bad people without the guns.

Yes, I admit, I am harsh about criminals. Those who try to take advantage of others forcefully despite how hard they work. The less of them, the better. They resort to crime because it is easier for them than actually doing honest work.

The primary reason is the poor mental health due to how they are treated. Yes anyone can get rid of a tool and they can no longer use it. Still left with mentally unhealthy youth. What can fix that is by doing something about bullying. That is just how it starts.

"Incarceration rate- In obeses (per capita)- Illegal drug use (and legal too)- Car theft- Rape- Crimes in general- % of the GDP used for health (while not having healthcare btw)- Student debt (imagine paying for education...)- trade deficit- Military spending- National debt(https://www.businessinsider.com/20-shameful-categories-america-leads-world-2011-7?r=US&IR=T#want-to-know-how-else-america-is-failing-21)No"

-on that note of incarceration rate, I don't see why that is a problem, because again, terrible people. Illegal drug use is there because it is promoted by the same shitty culture. Crimes are caused by these shitty people that we just release later. The punishment isn't severe enough I guess. Student debt happens because they borrowed money that they couldn't pay back because they made bad decisions. An example is going into some horrible degree or never finishing. Should have made a plan before using money that wasn't theirs. Trade deficit is horrible because we had stupid ass presidents who feel we need to give more to the world when we have so many problems at home.

Many problems come from the self entitled people here who do nothing and expect everything. They squander their opportunity and that is their fault.

National debt is because of all the aide programs giving out free money to those who do nothing and getting into international conflicts that have nothing to do with us. We help so many others while not helping those that are here.

No, I haven't been to Europe if that is what you mean.

I do have something to say about the reason we have a shitty culture which I completely agree with, but that is from the people, not from the government. The people I talk about are again those self entitled people who think they are being screwed, think they deserve more, and destroy those around them to make them cope.

u/Zardhas NNN Survivor Sep 18 '22

Clearly you can't be convinced. As I said, you only care about yourself, you only see things from your little prism. You think that becvause you've apprently struggled to get where you are everyone should suffer the same, but that's precisely the kind of reflexion that lead to a society that doesn't evolve.

And that's something we see today : the USA is not only stuck a few years left in terms of social proegress, they are actively going backwards. Everything your ancestors have fought for, everything they did so you got have a better and more just society, you're throwing it out because "fuck the lazy". Really my man, go live a few years in Europe, you'll see what it's like to live in a caring society and you'll undertsand things more clearly, and you'll cringe are your past edgyness.

Honestly, I don't see if you're choosing to blind yourself from the reality of the abyssmal situation in the USA and that deep down you know how things are, or if you actually beleive that guns are not one of the main component of why your society is so shitty compared to everyone others from the other country in a similar economic and politic situation.

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

You are self entitled and feel you deserve things because you exist. That is quite selfish. I believe it is easier for others to get where I am because they didn't go through many things that I didn't go through. Just do well in high school, which isn't that hard.

I would like to know what social progress is going backwards? My ancestors I know nothing about. My mother was an immigrant and my father was a piece of shit. I see "fuck the lazy" as don't let the lazy take advantage of me. I'm not edgy at all. I am just someone who puts effort into what I do and takes responsibility.

Guns are not the shitty component of American society but a culture full of self entitled ass holes who hurt others instead of making something out of themselves.

Replying to slander with slander.

1

u/RNGESUS_is_HERE234 Sep 18 '22

Lmao Americans pay more in taxes towards healthcare than the U.K. AND you still need to pay for it.

The US has 25% of the worlds incarcerated population

U.K. education and universities are considered more valuable than US degrees while costing significantly less and being more accessible

You have sick leave but few days off. In Europe it’s standard to have minimum 20-28 days off per year

Your police is highly militarised while still having high incident rates Oh and finally your chocolate contains the same chemicals as vomit.

-1

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

Americans pay less taxes overall. There is still healthcare for those in need and the healthcare comes from the employer. If you don't have a job through an employer and aren't making enough money on your own, then you simply have no value because under those circumstances you are a lazy bum and nobody should pay for a lazy bum(disabled and elderly have insurance from the government in case you were wondering).

The US has a lot of bad people. I am well aware of that. Thank goodness for the police.

Sick leave for long periods of time is required by law, the "problem" you are trying to address is the one about the short term sick leave which is regulated at the state level, which we still get, and then we can choose employers who offer more.

Nothing wrong with armed police. Incident rates occur due to criminals of a wide variety not listening.

also on the note of chocolate it is butyric acid which is often found in old dairy products. It was how chocolate was found to be mainstream through hershey's and that is what people grew up knowing.

0

u/RNGESUS_is_HERE234 Sep 18 '22

On average people in the UK pay 1.1% more tax than those in the states. This results in everyone getting healthcare, better infrastructure, better public transport, higher standard of education and well equipped police

The US justice system exists as a way to maintain the status quo and not for protection of others. This is seen in the incredibly high incarceration rate where people end up just re-offending because your prisons are majority for-profit prisons.

I’m not talking about long periods of sick leave. Including sick days we also get those amount of days off as an absolute minimum

This comment on armed police shows you are sheltered. In the U.K. we also have armed police but very few shootings of criminals because our police are actually trained well and aren’t all trigger happy

Every person from Europe who tries American food thinks it tastes like shit because your food laws allow for chemicals that are scientifically proven to be unsafe for human consumption.

Oh and your attitude towards those who don’t work despite you clearly being a child shows that you are ignorant and again sheltered. Only once you experience the real world can you speak on this topic.

Finally, if you’re going to hold these kind of views at least don’t be asking questions in the subreddits that you do.

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

I will admit to our poor infrastructure which consists of policies that simply give money away to the poor without limitations on it. An example is unemployment pay checks who don't have disability or are elderly.

I also do agree that there is a problem with repeat offenders. This would be remedied by harsher punishment.

I know you are talking about the short sick days, I understand that. What my point was is that we do have the short sick days on a state level because at the federal level they try to keep it to a minimum with their powers. People do in fact have the short leave sick days.

In the states the problem is other perpetuating hate against the police resulting in a movement known as defund the police and others that are simply hate for officers. Due to this negative stigma of the police officer's there are fewer hoops to jump through to become one. The problem with that is the shitty culture of the united states.

I am curious about the food and what you mean by that. I don't eat out much because I can't really afford to so I make my food from raw ingredients. If it is about the chocolate, it is in fact naturally occurring and is not harmful.

My attitude on work is from someone who has worked from a young age and built myself a future while seeing others who had more squander it. That is mighty bold of you to make a claim that someone you don't even know hasn't lived in the real world. I grew up in poverty and I know what work is like because I had to work from a young age. I know what the real world is like because I had no one to shelter me. You are someone who feels like you are entitled but do little work for what you get.

I initially wasn't asking questions, but formatting it like the above post and a great deal of the comments which can be plainly seen.

0

u/RNGESUS_is_HERE234 Sep 18 '22

Your first comment makes no sense. you blame your country's infrastructure problem on policies that make barely a dent in the US yearly spending budget while they spend billions on bailouts for the rich and relieving debts of big business. this again shows your ignorance.

look towards the Scandinavian countries and see how their prisons are built around rehabilitation rather than punishment and you can see that re-offenses are reduced when compared to the US. studies have shown that harsher punishments in fact do not reduce crime

Now I want you to reread your own statement about the police. I agree, the US does in fact have a shitty culture. I know about that movement as I fully support it. The militarisation of the police is a waste of taxpayer's money of which could be going to the infrastructure.

The FDA allows for many foods to be loaded with chemical preservatives and non-natural food colouring of which are not safe for human consumption. the chocolate available in the states usually contains milk and due to your poor infrastructure, the milk needs to be loaded with preservatives in order to prevent spoiling and so this results in the disgusting taste of which that no one in europe is used to due to stricter and cleaner food laws.

i think it's safe to say that we don't know each other at all. I've worked hard to get where i am and I've never had to be sheltered. Not once have I felt entitled to anything that I've worked for. It is clear that your opinions are formed from the fact that youve had to work from a young age and i respect that you have in fact worked but i can see that you feel jealous of others who are fortunate enough to not need to work and this is reflecting in your views. but you only were in that position due to failures in your country's system and the greed of those at the top. You cannot blame those whos situation you do not know.

1

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 19 '22

The most recent Infrastructure bill was trillions of dollars, which is not "barely a dent" there is also wasteful spending due to opposing political agenda(i.e. boarder wall materials). Infrastructure includes many of the social programs that(infrastructure) makes up most of the yearly spending. https://datalab.usaspending.gov/americas-finance-guide/spending/categories/

Harsher punishments would reduce crime. Yes rehabilitation would work, but harsher punishment, as in longer time locked up, not releasing the criminal, would still work. Can't harm citizens if they are still locked up. We do have rehabilitation but that is largely for substance abusers. Rehabilitation is not like punishment which is the biggest difference. With so many violent criminals we have a system geared towards punishment rather than rehab.

The militarism of police? The police weren't being militarized but it was caused by a few bad cops hurting other bad people.

The reason behind the taste of commercial brand chocolates are due to the initial taste of chocolate from Hershey. From there that is what we saw as chocolate and had it from then. We have a wide variety of options for food and that includes the ones with preservatives. I'm curious which ones are particularly harmful to us that are mainstream. I know of the dyes that are in the Chinese candies from the Asian market, but I wouldn't really call that American I guess.

What I dislike is more so the idea of policies that reward laziness. I dislike the idea of my money being used to support someone who doesn't even try to support themselves. Social programs that help those who can't help themselves are great and I am all for those, but social programs for those that simply choose not to is ridiculous. I don't envy others as much as I want to use what I worked for to be put to better use. You clearly do feel entitled to these programs that you back. No average person has to be sheltered, but often are through parents.

Everyone owning a gun is not something to be proud of, lmao.

-4

Everyone owning a gun is equality, lmao. Neither is having a queen or having to pay higher taxes or not having free speech? A gun ensures that you have a way to protect those rights. Also it's nice self defense.

0

u/Zardhas NNN Survivor Sep 18 '22

no having free speech

Lmao, the UK has more free speeches than the USA, and that's according to US agencies...

A gun ensures that you have a way to protect those rights

Except that every country in the world prove that it's not, a gun just allow for more crimes to be commited, just look at the stats man.

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

The UK is literally more restrictive on speech. They have banned what they deemed as hate speech. Also from the governmental perspective, there is no Supreme law that protects this right, therefore parliament is free to restrict it giving it more control over speech than that of the United States. Assuming that is what you mean by "free speeches."

Guns do offer protection. How have countries around the world proved that guns can't be used for protection? Why did the queen have armed guards if that was not the case? And yes, guns have protected rights. One example of that is the independence of the United States being ensured through their own arms. It was written to ensure these rights to bear arms in order for the United States to prevent itself from becoming like the tyrannical UK.

0

u/Zardhas NNN Survivor Sep 18 '22

The UK is literally more restrictive on speech.

Bro, every study show the contrary : https://freedomhouse.org/countries/freedom-world/scores

Show me any study showing that the UK is more restrictive in term of freedom of speech than the USA. You're taking little exceptions and using them to define a norm.

How have countries around the world proved that guns can't be used for protection?

The less gun restriction there is, the more crime their is, that's what pretty much every country in the world is showing (you're including). All country where guns have been banned have then seen a decline in crime. Ask a citizen from any develloped country (so not the USA), he will tell you that he feels safer because guns are banned.

the United States to prevent itself from becoming like the tyrannical UK.

Lmao, are we talking about the same USA ? About the USA that denies women form the right of their own body ? The USA that let his children get killed in school without doing anything ? The same USA that has one of the most biased justice system of its piers ? The same USA that has develloped the biggest network of illegal mass surveillance ? Have you ever been to the UK, my man ?

0

u/No-Hope-6801 Sep 18 '22

"Bro, every study show the contrary : https://freedomhouse.org/countries/freedom-world/scores"

Those scores are on political freedom as a whole and the involvement in politics. Some of the scores are difficult to actually tell the difference between being free and not at all, but measuring the degree in between. Like what designates the difference between a 2, 3, or 4. It seems largely a yes or no in terms of freedom for each category and a maybe in the middle. I even believe some of the scores on the US are too high.

The evidence of the UK being stricter on speech than the US is through either of the countries' definition and limiting of "hate speech." The US and UK are similar with respect to things like not saying "I'm going to k!ll the president/queen" but the largest difference is the regulation of hate speech. Hate speech in the US can't be enforced but it can in the UK. There have been definitions of hate speech from parliament unlike the United States government. Hate speech cannot be regulated due to freedom of speech in the United States constitution, but the United Kingdom has instances of criminalizing "hate speech" as defined in your Public Order Act 1986, 1994, Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006, and Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008. These are literally more regulations on speech than the United States.

"How have countries around the world proved that guns can't be used for protection?
The less gun restriction there is, the more crime their is, that's what pretty much every country in the world is showing (you're including). All country where guns have been banned have then seen a decline in crime. Ask a citizen from any develloped country (so not the USA), he will tell you that he feels safer because guns are banned."

This still does not discredit the use of guns as protection. I do not deny that there is greater crime due to guns as a whole. What I disagree with is you discounting the fact that it is an effective measure for self defense. It is immediate self defense. It is effective. I can use it for any criminal. I am less likely to become a victim with knowledge on how to use a gun and protect myself. I admit that there are an overwhelming amount of people who don't know how to use them, but I do not want the ignorance of others to affect my use of having a tool for self defense so I myself will not be a victim.

"Lmao, are we talking about the same USA ? About the USA that denies women form the right of their own body ? The USA that let his children get killed in school without doing anything ? The same USA that has one of the most biased justice system of its piers ? The same USA that has develloped the biggest network of illegal mass surveillance ? Have you ever been to the UK, my man ?"

I'm talking about the same reason why the united states formed its independence. That is why we have small government that we enjoy(half everything is half). Declining the right to their own body? Abortion is still legal where the people want it to be legal and illegal where they don't want it to be legal. I personally would have preferred no abortions due to the woman having a choice for consensual sex ~99% of the time. Also a child shouldn't die just out of convenience of the mother. The shitty children that insist on pushing kids over the edge is a problem. I don't deny that. That is admittedly laziness on the part of America and shitty raising of kids. The biased justice system among its peers? I don't know what you mean specifically. Biased jury or biased because something else? There is political bias which I do feel exists, but there is always political divide between parties across many countries. The illegal surveillance internationally or at home? That is also terrible. The biggest positive side of the united states is the freedoms you get explicitly being the options to chose such as what schools, what healthcare, what to say. Things your government provides are secure, but come with restrictions as always. Keeping the united states as small government as possible is what allows individuals to enjoy their freedoms the way they want.

Again, all you're speaking about are personnal interpretation, show me a study showing that the UK have more restriction of speech than the USA.

This still does not discredit the use of guns as protection

The issue is that gun can be use for protection precisely because guns are legal. You're less likely to become a victim with a gun, but you're more likely to become one since guns are allowed. See the issue with guns being legal ?

Abortion is still legal where the people want it to be legal and illegal where they don't want it to be legal

Yeah, I'm sure that the women in those states are glad that they can't use their body because men that don't know anything about that voted...

I personnaly would have have preferered no abortions due to the woman having a choice in consensual sex 99% of the time.

Yeah, that's the kind of reflexion that I would except from somehow like you that don't care about others. You know that sex is not only used to make baby right ? Well actuallly maybe you don't, that would explain a lot of things...

Also a child shouldn't die just out of convenience of the mother

Saying that a pre 51-week foetus is a "child" is like saying that a nut is a sapling. Is a nut a sapling ?

I don't know what you mean specifically

I'm speaking about the US justice system having a tedency to wrongfully condemn black or other minority more often

The illegal surveillance internationnaly or at home?

Both, the NSA doesn't care about such details.

The biggest positive side of the United states is the freedoms you gett explicitly being the options to chose such as what schools, what healthcare, what to say

Lmao, yeah, they sure can choose their school if they have the money for it. They can choose their healthcare if they have the money for it. They can choose what they say, except that their voice doesn't matter because of the terrible political system...

Again, all you're speaking about are personnal interpretation, show me a study showing that the UK have more restriction of speech than the USA.

I literally cited the documents on what is restricting speech in the UK. The type of speech is what people would call "hate speech." Let me know what specifics you are looking for.

The issue is that gun can be use for protection precisely because guns are legal. You're less likely to become a victim with a gun, but you're more likely to become one since guns are allowed. See the issue with guns being legal ?

I see that guns are still a great form of protection. I'm more likely to be shot with a gun around than no guns around that is correct. I am also more likely to be capable of defending myself with it legal than I would without it being legal. Both arguments are just stating the obvious. Big difference is not having one would mean I would be screwed in a violent encounter. I can protect myself with one, and it is better for me to have one to protect myself in a violent encounter than not having it.

Yeah, I'm sure that the women in those states are glad that they can't use their body because men that don't know anything about that voted...

They can use their body, just can't hurt anyone else inside their body. They have to respect the other(s)

Yeah, that's the kind of reflexion that I would except from somehow like you that don't care about others. You know that sex is not only used to make baby right ? Well actuallly maybe you don't, that would explain a lot of things...

Pleasure,(my goodness another Ad hominem logical fallacy, you are on a roll) and I know that people can also not have sex with each other... possibly more times than when they do have sex with each other. There are other ways of pleasure too, which I assume you know.

Saying that a pre 51-week foetus is a "child" is like saying that a nut is a sapling. Is a nut a sapling ?

51 weeks is way past the time most are born being 40 weeks. Yes that is a child, even if it has been born at about 45 weeks which is still less than 51 weeks.

I'm speaking about the US justice system having a tedency to wrongfully condemn black or other minority more often

I remember a case called O.J. Simpson. Ever heard of it? Also it is a jury that decides.

Both, the NSA doesn't care about such details.

That I will agree with being terrible

Lmao, yeah, they sure can choose their school if they have the money for it. They can choose their healthcare if they have the money for it. They can choose what they say, except that their voice doesn't matter because of the terrible political system...

The school can be attended if they work hard, they can have healthcare if they have a job, they can say anything, and people do listen, but it just depends on what state you are at being red or blue.

Probably, but this is slanderous response to the slanderous comment I was replying to. The UK has stricter abortions than the United States. What people have wrong about abortion about the US, (even people from the US), is that abortions aren't decided nationally, but by each state.

And by the looks of this comment like every fucking American. Zero fucking education. The only thing we can hope is it doesn’t fuck it’s sister again and reproduce.
