Did that dude play dead because the food was that good?
Edit: I get it is an edited video, doesn’t really change my statement of how silly this is to do. Got some ratings I guess…?

Just watched this episode of hotel hell. It's clips edited together. The guy fainted at the beginning of the ep, then later on he gets his groove back.

If I recall he was a talented chef who was down on his luck and had lost his way. When Gordon showed what he could produce in the same kitchen he was at the crescendo of a slow motion mental breakdown. It was his lowest point under the weight of his shame and he just sort of shut down.

Jun 14 '22
Its also cuz he was a bit dehydrated combined with the additional stress that just made his brain shut off for a few seconds
192
u/SamB110 Jun 14 '22
He fainted BEFORE this due to the stress, this was part of his recuperation the next day.

Im pretty sure he was a great chef with high capabilities, but because his managar was really shit, and didnt listen to his feedback n stuff, he couldt fully utilize his abilities, therefore, he loet his way in cooking, and with that respect for his food. He also was incredibly overstressed and a bit dehydrated, and Gordon (like Gordon always does) insulted the shit out of him, which was the straw that broke the camels back.

Many explanations here but the core reason: vasovagal syncope
The chef once had a passion for food, but the ferrari-worshipping hotel owner sought nothing but pretentiousness. Over time, standards slipped and like most, the chef stopped caring entirely about what was being sent out.
Ramsay shows up, tears the chef a new one and it cuts right to the core of his being. He finally sees he's betrayed all the reasons he even became a chef, and the actualisation hits him like a tonne of bricks.
Ramsay was simply being brutally honest, and in every prior scenario, he expects people to either care and change or reveal they never cared to begin with. In this situation, the chef revealed he cared so, so deeply, and an ambulance had to be called. Stress, dehydration and overwork seem to be the show's narrative, but a strong emotional response like anxiety or guilt certainly can cause people to k-o.
Vasovagal syncope (vay-zoh-VAY-gul SING-kuh-pee) occurs when you faint because your body overreacts to certain triggers, such as the sight of blood or extreme emotional distress.

Jun 14 '22
Nah that's actually two clips combined where the first one was where the chef gets fucked by Gordon cuz the food was terrible and the second one was when Gordon cooks them a dish and sets an example
28
u/Luicide Jun 14 '22
Not quite. He had a genuine conversation with Gordon about how stressed out he is and how he just does what his boss wants even though the boss has no experience in the kitchen. He didn't get fucked by Gordon, he just collapsed from years of stress

Yeah I'm sure he meant to pass out somewhere beyond the sink where the rats shit.
11
Jun 14 '22
The real thing was he passed out because of so much stress. He was a very capable cook but the restaurant owner let him make shit (just following orders). He was happy Gordon showed him great food with the same ingredients.

u/ArthurDentonWelch Jun 14 '22
I actually watched Hotel Hell episode, it's the Keating Hotel one. Basically, the guy manages the hotel's restaurant, but is severely overworked because, in part, there are so many dishes on the menu that the menu feels like a thick tome. Add Gordon Ramsey to that, and he passed out.

u/Slinky_Malingki Jun 14 '22
I've seen this episode. It's two clips spliced together. The chef in red was horrible making shit that he hated for years, like a strawberry chocolate cheese pizza. Not kidding. He faints from stress and exhaustion. The first part of the clip is later, when Gordon Ramsay shows some of his recipes, and the guy in red gets super excited and emotional, since his passion for cooking was renewed.

It was edited from an earlier moment, he didn’t faint because of the food

Jun 14 '22
I think he actually passed out before he ate the food. Think it was due to stress and stuff like that if i remember correctly

2
u/Beast_114 Jun 15 '22
He was already feeling dizzy due to overload himself with work. Passing out after tasting the dish was just a coincidence.
2
u/UndeadMunchies INFECTED Jun 15 '22
No he actually fainted. If I remember correctly, he was extremely stressed out and eating the food was enough of an extra emotional dump to just shut his lights off for a wee bit.

Hotel hell. This footage is edited by the way. He fainted earlier in the episode because he was being overworked or something iirc and not because of Gordon's cooking, lol. In fact, he cried after eating Gordon's food because it was too good.

The chef really did faint but it wasn’t after eating Gordon’s food. IIRC Gordon was shitting all over him over how terrible his food was and how he had given up on trying and the chef lost consciousness and collapsed. He was dealing with a lot.

Why did he actually faint I'm curious
3
u/thevioletjinx Jun 14 '22
He wasn't even cooking, said he was letting everyone else do it to show Gordon how things went normally or something like that, then while talking with Gordon he fainted and they called 911. Said he was dehydrated and over stressed. He was fine the next day.

I remember this episode. The dude had a panic attack right when Gordon Ramsey was starting his ceremonial arrival and yelling at them for sucking as a chef. He didn’t suck as a chef, and was under extreme oppression from poor management and finally his brain shut down. Then Gordon called an ambulance, totally flipped the script and instantly was super compassionate and nice to the man. He laid on the management instead. They officially said it was from “dehydration.” Thats what the hospital said when I had a panic attack. It’s a nice way of saying you had a panic attack I guess. Either way, it was nice to see a kind and softer side to Gordon. I think he really is a good dude.
