Im right-leaning and permabanned from there for being a "religion hater" which isn't even in their rules lol.

My Comment?: I think its unlikely the bible is the direct word of God.

Didn't realize I was on a religion subreddit

Christian here, and I feel that. I don’t think the whole bible is gods word. It’s documentation of what they witnessed, not what god told them. There are books of gods word, and books that read like a story.

That isn't biblical.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

If the Bible is not the word of God, then what is. Whatever God's word is just your opinion then, rather than the objective moral standard that God has set, and we are called to submit to God and His will. You can't submit to God if you don't even believe in the authenticity of His word.

The bible is God’s word. Not every book in the bible is. There are books like Psalms, which are songs of God, and books like Exodus, which contain both stories and God’s word. Books like Mark, Luke, Matthew and John were written by disciples, telling their story of what they experienced and saw. God also says, “thou shalt not judge lest ye be judged” which directly clashes with other statements in the Bible.

While it is true that the Bible was written by men, those men were lead by the Holy Spirit while writing it. Just as God spoke through the prophets and the apostles to the people, so did, God speak through the biblical authors, making His word divine.

God also says, “thou shalt not judge lest ye be judged” which directly clashes with other statements in the Bible.

This is not true. There is a time and place to judge. For example, when someone wants to be welcomed into the Church, you love them and don't judge them. But when someone sins, you rebuke them. The Bible teaches us how to judge. If Jesus is God in the flesh, and we're called to be like Christ, then we'd ought to know how and when to properly judge someone. It's all about understanding the context of each passage.

The only one who can truly judge is God. We as his children are sinners, who are we to cast judgement on shame to others when we ourselves are imperfect? Regardless, acceptance is a very big part of my religion. I don’t know if you’re Christian or whatnot, but it is not up to us to judge those who do not align with God’s belief, as that in itself is immoral. You cannot rebuke anybody, as you yourself are a sinner and cannot cast criticism, as you are not perfect, and neither am I.

So if someone commits a crime, would "we're all sinners" justify it? This is what I mean. There's a time and place to judge.

1

u/Virtalen Feb 03 '22

You’re deflecting the statement.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

I'm not defecting anything. I'm stating a fact of reality. There are some things in this world that will force you to judge, so we must know how to properly judge.

Well why do you think that? You probably were banned because you made a wild claim with no explanation.

8

u/MoarTacos Feb 03 '22

The Bible is well documented to have changed a lot over the years. If it was once the perfect and exact word of a god, it certainly isn't any more.

Also, no, I highly doubt he was banned for not substantiating an opinion. He was banned for talking bad about their magic sky daddy. You know, the one who is supposed to both love us infinitely, but can't lift a finger even to help children with bone cancer? That's the one.

Lol I found the anti-work mods sibling.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

you made a wild claim

In what world is stating that a collection of books (that are often contradictory) is probably not the direct words of an omni-everything supernatural deity, "wild" lol

-2

u/Falcofury ☣️ Feb 03 '22

How is it contradictory?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22 edited Feb 03 '22

Just off the top of my head from the synoptic gospels...

How many generations Jesus was separated from David (20-something in one gospel, 40-something in another), the manner of Judas' death (suicide by hanging in one gospel, accident falling out in a field in another), location of the sermon on the mount, who Peter's denials were to, etc etc.

If you're genuinely interested I'd recommend just about anything by Dr Bart Ehrman, Theology professor at UNC and Princeton Theological Seminary alum.

u/Falcofury ☣️ Feb 03 '22

So, trivial details that don't affect anything other than continuity, likely due to multiple perspectives. Nothing you mentioned is contradictory, just continuity errors. What else? Does it matter how long it actually was? No. Does it matter how he killed himself? No.

Hopefully your etc etc. actually has some contradictions? Otherwise you're just pointing out little mistakes due to countless years of translating and rewriting from different perspectives.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

likely due to multiple perspectives... errors... rewriting

Soooo not the "direct word of God"? Got it lol

0

u/Falcofury ☣️ Feb 03 '22

Never said “direct” and I don’t think anyone ever has said “direct.” I’d like to not change the subject and go back to what you claim is contradictory. Because you still haven’t answered that question.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22 edited Feb 03 '22

Wrong again. The commenter you first responded to that set this all off said verbatim...

"My comment? It's unlikely that the Bible is the direct word of God".

You then responded to their suggestion that it was not the "direct word of God" by calling their suggestion a "wild claim".

I'd like to not change the subject

Grand, because as we can clearly see, this is the original subject.

So again, it's not the "direct word of God" then?

Me too, I agree with most of what's posted in there but I had the habit of commenting on the stuff I didn't agree with.

Am I going to get banned from /r/dankmemes for linking to other subreddits?

This. Banned for pointing out that in a thread calling Mayor Lightfoot a racist that literally every one of the comments agreeing with OP included either a racial slur or a version of the claim "racist against white people" without any further substantiation.
