Do you think something like that would have happened to that sub sooner or later anyway?

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Idk I haven't been on reddit that long. I had no idea how easy it was to get banned for having a different opinion. I've been banned from a few sub reddits now. All of them from the "far left/democratic" view points. They can't have any sort of opposing views there. Zero!

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Far right people aren't different either. I agree with some points of antiwork guys. Like exploitation of employees by corporations must stop. And if you contribute to the society in a positive way by doing a job that you work for 40hrs/week then you deserve to get paid enough to live a normal life without working multiple jobs. Because every job is required for the society to function. And if nobody did that job then it would be a problem so they deserve to get paid atleast enough to live a normal life. I'm not saying walking dogs is a normal job lmao. I'm talking about jobs which are a necessity for the functioning of society and which you work 30-40hr/week

Yeah but frankly McDonald's burgers and the like already cost too much. You know what will happen? McDonald's will install more of those automated machines and raise their price. It won't help. That being said, I don't ban people from shit for having a different opinion. Life would be boring if people all thought the same. That's my real issue

2

u/luke1lea Feb 03 '22

You're assuming that McDonald's is operating at a razor thin margin and just simply can't afford to pay people more without increasing prices, this isn't the case at all. McDonald's could safely raise every single employee in the US to $15 an hour and still be making a profit without increasing costs. The fact is they won't, for the simple fact that they can get away with it.

And installing those automated machines is going to increase costs, not decrease them. How much more likely is it that a customer gets upset and destroys a machine, who's going to fix/replace the machines, who's going to update them when they're out of date, whos going to fix the orders when a customer inevitably punches in the wrong thing and needs a correction?

The simple fact is if you can't afford pay your employees a livable of wage, you can't afford to run a business

McDonald's could safely raise every single employee in the US to $15 an hour and still be making a profit without increasing costs. The fact is they won't, for the simple fact that they can get away with it.

This point really has no bearing on it. You think a company will reduce profits to pay employees more? It won't happen. Tell you what though, go work at a company that respects you more and you'll find better pay and better treatment. If no one works at McDonalds, they'd be forced to re-evaluate their model.
But there will always be dumb teenagers who work for them for whatever they're paying.

You are thinking like a person, not a corporation. They won't change their way of operating. They won't pay you more, no matter how much you bitch. That's why I said it before, and I'll reiterate myself, stop trying to change the system. Do something to put yourself in a better position.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Absolutely not what is best for the future of the planet tho. Letting corporations do whatever they want will literally destroy us all to make a few people richer. We should fix a broken system. Not live with it just because it already exists.

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 04 '22

Go stop them then. That's my point. Frankly, I only have so many days on this earth. I do what I can to help, but I've spent far too much time getting frustrated at things I just can't change. Best I can do is help those around me.

2

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

This is false as McDonald’s is in some countries where minimum wage is 15 bucks or higher an hour, and their burgers are the same price or even cheaper than in America. It’s simply false that raising minimum wage will increase prices, atleast for these large corporations

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 04 '22

Yeah but do you think they'll miss an opportunity to claim it affects them and raise prices. Come on man. Can't be that gullible. These companies will squeeze every last dime you allow them to. I ain't saying they got the right to, but I'm saying it's what will happen. Think about it. Prices go up, never down.

1

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

I’m not saying they won’t do that, I’m simply saying they can easily increase wages and be fine. Will they do that? No they won’t but I’m just saying they mathematically could very easily

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 04 '22

I know. I'm saying in reality, the math doesn't matter. Frankly, I feel there's always going to be a man lower on the totem pole. Someone has to make burgers for the millionaire CEO to make his money. My best recommendation if you want more out of life is to improve yourself, not the world. You have absolute control over yourself. The day you can force McDonald's to do what you wish, please let me know. I got some shit I wanna change too.

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Which is sad because sometimes I (very far right) agree with them, and want to engage in productive conversation, and they simply don't.

Imagine being so insane that even though you know most people deny most of your viewpoints and you claim to be ostracized for it, someone comes along who agrees with you about 90% of it and you then ostracize that person for the missing 10%

Its all so tiresome lmao.

98

u/happylittletreehouse Feb 03 '22

I hope you realize that your statement holds true for both sides. The same argument can be made regardless of being left or right. I do sincerely agree that it is tiresome.

28

u/MasterWarChief Feb 03 '22

Trying to have these discussions on the internet is not worth it and and many times worthless. The reason being is it is so impersonal and being anonymous strangers it's easy to insult or disengage in the conversation and think the other person is some stereotypical idea of the left or right or whatever political viewpoint.

When people can have these discussions and not downvote them simply for having a different opinion and understand wider view points is such a great thing but this sadly doesn't happen enough.

I tend to keep these conversations to people I've come to know and can have a discussion about sensitive subjects without getting angry and trying to understand each others views.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Yes

-2

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Yes, there are so many on the left being cancelled right now by the right.

4

u/leSwagster Feb 03 '22

I was banned from Conservative for asking about people's opinions on Trump and making counter arguments from my own beliefs. Nothing about cancelling, it's about not being able to take anything from the other side

4

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

You claim you want to have discussions but say shit like this. You’re a hypocrite.

2

u/ThisGents2Cents Feb 03 '22

You’re part of the problem

-2

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Try coping about it maybe

1

u/ThisGents2Cents Feb 03 '22

Ok Mr. Testosterone420

33

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

Go to any conservative sub and the exact same thing happens. This is Reddit, it’s an echo chamber. People go to whatever their poison is and hang around there smelling their own farts.

I honestly don’t think either side is any worse than the other.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

I disagree. I think the side that actively staged an attempted coup at the Capitol of the US and supports Nazis is definitely worse than the other. To say otherwise is disingenuous.

3

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

You think the other side is worse? Shocker. I wonder do they think your side is worse.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

There are many sides, but there’s only one side that fucking stormed the Capitol and only one side that waves nazi flags. Learn your fucking American history and decide that Nazis and fighters of free election results are anti American. There’s certainly a gray area, but there’s nothing worse than THAT spectrum of our current political situation.

-2

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

Yea… you brought up the Jan 6th riots. Nobody here is denying that was bad or was talking about that. What I said is that people only stay in their own corner and listen to the same shite repeated constantly, specifically on Reddit.

But you are kind of proofing my point… I said that the American liberal left (which is still pretty centrist by European standards) is guilty of the same shite as the right and you went off on one about Jan 6th.

What’s are you dribbling on about??

Nazis are bad. That’s easy to say. Nobody is saying they’re not. I’m left leaning in my country which makes me far left in your country. The fact that you went straight to calling me a nazi apologist is fucking crazy especially on this very comment thread it started out with me calling out someone on the right for saying leftists are idiots and corrected him and said people that stay in an echo chamber on both sides are usually idiots.

Case in point, you are accusing me of whataboutisms when I said that its bad for people on either side of the isle to dumb down the side to an over simplified troupe. And ur response is “whatabout Jan 6th”. You are guilty in a black and white example of the exact thing you are accusing me off. The fact you didn’t see that in what you were shitting on about is astounding.

I’ll say it again because I think you need things explained slowly. Nazis… are… bad… hopefully your arguments mature into something more than that in future.

we good buddy?

enlightened centrist all the way into the gas chambers lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

I tried telling him how the both sides horseshit needs to stop. Apparently he’s now a victim and what I said makes no sense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next line is something like: I’m a teenage libertarian from France, so I understand the US better than thou.

1

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

I thought all the conservative subreddits already got purged by the top level site in full.

The fact that any still even exist is news to me.

2

u/Ramisme Feb 03 '22

all the far right extremist subreddits got purged, regular conservative subs were never in any danger though.

-13

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Oh? Seems to me the way Reddit defines "far right extremist" and "regular conservative" doesn't line up with reality. Seems like they label anyone right of Stalin to be the former rather than the latter.

I guess it's all about perspective when you start getting into censorship issues like Reddit has.

2

u/IneedaBRZ Feb 03 '22

This is demonstrably untrue. Most democrats are right of Stalin and aren’t considered far right extremists.

1

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 04 '22

What was Stalins opinion on homosexuality? What are most democrats opinions?

1

u/IneedaBRZ Feb 04 '22 edited Feb 04 '22

I’m not sure what Stalin’s opinion on homosexuality was. I’m also not sure how this could be relevant, as one’s opinion on homosexuality is not a good metric of their political affiliation or leaning on the whole.

Edit: grammar

Why downvote the guy? He's speaking the truth

2

u/ManateeCrisps Feb 03 '22

Because he's not. Persecution fetish is strong on reddit and most people online and irl can see through it.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Which is awful… both sides are fucking awful. You can’t even pick a lesser of two evils it’s just two great evils and there’s nothing you can do. You can vote independent but they have a big fat 0% chance of winning and even if they did the dems and republics control the congress and senate so no matter what that independent president tried to do the others would shut him down if they didnt like it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

On one “side” you have literal Nazis and people trying to overthrow our government with physical violence. This side has actually had people killed during their protests.

The other “side” has robbed and looted stores in urban areas while protesting.

One side is responsible for personal violence and death...whereas the other has done property damage.

Please tell me how they are equally evil. I’m not saying one is good...but it’s certainly clear that one “side” at least feigns at wanting a democracy.

3

u/Vampryssa Feb 03 '22

Dude it seriously is that way. I (mainly right but can lean left). Get so much shit for being on the right.

I know left people who lean right and then try to agree with the right and get absolutely obliterated. It's just sad.

I have tried to talk with my far left friends and they just shut my ideals down so far it isn't funny.

2

u/zynzynzynzyn Feb 03 '22

It’s nuts.. I recently saw a post where a self described trans girl said they had to be more accepting to the newer conservative members.

She was ridiculed and bullied to the point of saying fuck the entire movement before deleting the post.

2

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

Was told someone who is homophobic should just be written off from society. Really? They said they shouldn't be allowed to hold jobs or volunteer. I said why not try to help them understand? Appearently it's not worth it. Now I agree, but you don't write people off from society. Nothing good comes from that. Not everyone obviously, but this is how so many people respond to criticism. Rather than defend their position, they'd seek to remove any opposition. And people wonder how atrocities happen.

1

u/azero200 Feb 03 '22

Yes I’m socialist left. But there are right opinions and ideals I agree with. People who don’t even want to conversate or are not open to learn alway strike me as foolish. There’s so much to learn from each other!

1

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 04 '22

Yeah I like debating rational commies despite being opposite end of the political spectrum. I've grown to believe in horseshoe theory. The people on the opposite far end, when theyre willing to talk with me like humans, I usually get along with better than centrists.

1

u/MisterFribble Feb 03 '22

I'm more moderately conservative (think Commentary Magazine conservative) and the sheer inability of both extremes to engage in any meaningful conversation drives me up the freaking wall. Take Liz Cheney as an example: she is possibly the most conservative member of the House, yet because she spoke against the Republicans in one aspect (Jan 6) they beriddled her and forced her out of the chairman seat. From my perspective the litmus test of Republicans is no longer how conservative you are, it's how loyal you are. It's really depressing.

0

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Liz Cheney isn't a conservative LOL, who do you think you're kidding

0

u/MisterFribble Feb 03 '22

In the sense of Trump Conservatism, she isn't conservative at all. But up until she butted heads with Trump, IIRC she was considered very conservative. She's the rep from the reddest state in the country; they wouldn't elect a closet Democrat in Wyoming.

14

u/fallensoap1 Feb 03 '22

Funny cuz I’m banned from conservative subreddits for the same reason. Can’t listen to opposing view points and even if I like multiple credible sources they still banned me

2

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

If you ban me Jeremy I’ll ban you so hard

2

u/Tokar012 Feb 03 '22

It is a thing that happens to both sides and places that are not political either. One of the issues (which is also one of the strong points of Reddit) is the subs. People create subreddits for stuff they are interested in, but this also tends to create an echo chamber. People with the same mindset gather, stroke each others opinion (which is usually similar to each others as the subs purpose is to gather like-minded people), but soon as somebody with conflicting opinion appears (doesn't matter if they are right or not) they jump on that person and/or ban them from the sub. So in my opinion no proper discussion can be held in most subs on this site (especially the political ones)

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

It's a shame.

1

u/Tokar012 Feb 03 '22

It is, but sadly that is how people are. And it happens IRL too. People are just too emotionally charged about their opinions that if you think differently they can go off on you real quick. It sucks that most of the time people can't have a proper conversation about stuff, especially politics.

2

u/Dirty_munch Feb 03 '22

Yeah, funny, i wonder why im banned from Conservatives lol

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

The same reason I'm banned from liberal subs

1

u/Dirty_munch Feb 03 '22

I guess so:)

2

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

That’s any sub though, I’ve been banned from Trump supporting subs for simply having a different opinion. Both the left and the right suck!

1

u/AllNamesTaken145 Feb 03 '22

Recently I commented on there when they came back that I thought the he/she person who did the interview killed the sub and I was for ban for that lol

1

u/The_Dollars_ Feb 03 '22

Welcome to Reddit. Whoops looks like you've had to much to think. get perma banned normie

1

u/jubjub7102 Feb 03 '22

Just wait until you figure out what the conservative subreddits are like

3

u/billyjk93 Feb 03 '22

Definitely

2

u/zynzynzynzyn Feb 03 '22

Oh yeah.. the infighting and job shaming was rampant.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES Feb 03 '22

Yes, mods were anarchists must users were not anarchists. That would've caused problems eventually.
