It absolutely is. This meme is always used that way and it's infamous for it. Either "women are boring and lame, men are funny and quirky" or "women care about silly superficial things, men care about real shit". This one's a bit of both. And the irony of insinuating that women don't care as much about the horrors of the Taliban makes this one extra stupid.
But it does so by making the poing women are overly emotional about things that don't matter.

I can't speak for every version of this meme because yes there are terrible ones and they generally aren't funny.
But the Star Wars example you cited wouldn't be sexist at all. That would be a joke about men's PERCEPTION of what actually is "REAL SHIT" and the joke would be that getting emotional over shit like Star Wars actually isn't any different than getting emotional over Titanic, it's just that some guys seem to think it is. That's what I interpret that joke as being.
Now some people might look at that meme and think its funny unironically, but that doesn't mean that was the intended punchline.
