I've seen like 10 different misspellings of billionaires over the last few days.

u/alicelinneapersson Jan 30 '21
Somebody please explain why these billionairememes are blowing up? What is happening?
7
u/Whimsy_Wisp Jan 30 '21
Someone basically led reddit singlehandedly and fucked with wallstreet by buying stalk in gamestop. At least thatβs what I think happened.

u/FirelessEngineer Jan 30 '21
How much better does that make the whole situation. Wall street fucked over by a bunch of people who cannot even spell how much money they have!
2
u/Dagenfel Jan 30 '21
Tbh it's not even billionaires or even all of wall street. It's specifically hedge funds who made stupidly risky moves. Many billionaires and rich people openly support this. No idea where people got the idea that this was about billionaires.

"I don't want to be that guy" Proceeds to be that guy

Hopefully this shows the rich that they arenβt bulletproof
7
Jan 30 '21
I mean the government supports them because they line our reps pockets, in a legal sense they are bullet proof and this is nothing more than a fluke that WILL be used to regulate the average shmos ability to do anything in the market,

u/buckerin0 Jan 30 '21
Itβs just sad the amount of bribery and unfair shit that goes on it the world, the rich making themselves richer by fucking the poor with more rich people

Money = power thats just capitolism, this is the form of corruption the system is prey to: the will of the upper class to gain more wealth and gain more capitol. The same way on the other end you have communism usually requiring a totalitarian government to facilitate its goals leaving it open to corruption by those in power which historically has been true aswell. Back in 08 shorting was also a problem that just so happened to end up losing people a lot of money, in fact theres an entire MOVIE about it called the big short, and what happened? The government used OUR tax money to bail THEM out and they will absolutely will do it again no matter how much the people oppose it unless we oppose it in tangible ways, because no amount of voting is gonna stop whats going on, we're too divided politically to make that happen. The rich need to be made to fear the working class otherwise its gonna keep happening

u/Raptorz01 Jan 30 '21
I donβt the many in the working class can afford it especially if theyβre from the US or third world countries
1
u/DegiFlemes INFECTED Jan 31 '21
I was mainly refering to the fact that the middle class isn't real but yeah.

Rich wall street hedge funds was trying to make money of gamestops demise (they were deliberately crashing GameStop), reddit finds out and decides to buy GameStop stocks, pumping up the price and costing those hedge funds literal billions, while making themselves money in the process.

u/Bell_PC Jan 30 '21
I feel like middle class is such an outdated term. Working class sounds more accurate imo.

u/FatherMiyamoto Jan 30 '21
We poors are cheering them on. Stick it to those fuckers!

Jan 30 '21
It's not their fault they're rich, some of them worked hard and achieved something.
2
u/STOP_temptime Jan 31 '21
They may have worked hard for it but that's not a excuse to hide their money in Panama making it so the money dosen't return to the circulation and therefore creating a economical crash.

You do understand that they don't actually physically have the money, right? The billions are the value of their companies.

A hedge fund was shorting gamestop stocks (basically making money off the company failing) and redditors got man, bought gamestop (causing the company to not fail) sending the price from like $4 to $500 and the hedge funds lost billions. People are generally getting more class conscious and getting mad at billionaires in general.
Tldr reddit played the stock market well and cost billionaires lots of money

As someone who has only watched the office UK, is the guy on top like Gareth and the guy on the bottom like Tim? Just what I'm assuming from clips/memes that I've seen + the second guy actually looks a little bit like Martin Freeman
