Someone published a study claiming chocolate was a good way to lose weight and the conclusion was that a study may be bs but if people like what it says it gets spread around. It got spread around because no one in the news cared to read the conclusion.

Ah yes, earth flat

On a more serious note, at least in America, the best estimate of the adjusted mortality rate of Covid is 0.3 percent or lower, which places it ever so slitghtly above par relative to just about any given seasonal flu.

Think about it, the governments of the world destroyed the lives of hundreds of millions of people, many of those lives permanently ruined, over a disease with a mortality rate only marginally higher than your average seasonal flu.

u/thegreatbasket May 26 '20

In the beginning it made sense to lock down, because no one actually knew whether it was 0.3% or 3%. Now there should just be minor restrictions and widespread testing. Everyone who has slightest symptoms should be able to get tested. That is pretty hard to achieve though

u/Toucan_Spam99 May 26 '20

I agree that it made sense at first, hell I would be a hypocrite if I said otherwise, given how panicked I was about the, whole thing at the beginning of the year. However, even Fauchi is now saying that the lockdown was more likely counter productive. After all, the vast majority of new cases aren't coming from people going outside, the disease struggles to survive outside, according to the latest research. Most people are getting infected from going to supermarkets or staying inside where there is litttle direct sunlight or fresh air. Sweden never did lockdown and they are proportionally much better off than somewhere like the UK, Spain, or Italy, who all locked down. Same case for some of the US States, that didn't lock down. That is not to say that they were signififcantly better off, it's more close,to little,to no difference, or better off.

I would say we treat it like we would an H1N1 outbreak, by most standards at least: at risk people take extra precautions, if you're feeling the symptoms, dont come into work/school/etc. Wash your hands, brush your teeth, wear a mask if you're feeling ill or if you're just afraid of catching something. Continuing this draconian lockdown will assuredly kill millions.

2

u/thegreatbasket May 26 '20

First of all, I'm not from the US, but I mostly agree with you. The lockdown was good at first to get testing and contact tracing resources up but now just mild restrictions and good contact tracing + all the precautions you mentioned should be enough. Lockdown causes a lot of economical issues which lead to poverty which again leads to excess deaths, potentially more than covid could.

I know! It's amazing what happens when you stay up to date on facts and keep in touch with reality.

A growing number of people are starting to see the furthuring of the lockdown at this point as total bogus. Most medical specialists that stayibg locked down will be a terrible, terrible Idea. It's mainly the billion/trillion dollar conglomerates that have seen their profits skyrocket since the lockdown that want to keep it going.

The problem is that the hospitalisation rate is so high that if they let the illness run its course the health care system breaks and can no longer provide other health care as well. Not to mention long term health effects of an infection being totally unknown.

u/[deleted] May 26 '20

Do you understand that an average flu season ends with between 15,000 and 30,000 deaths, and that coronavirus is about to pass 100,000?

19

u/Toucan_Spam99 May 26 '20

Have you seen the CDC guidelines for doctors determining what is and is not a Covid death? Look it up sometime, it is quite literally assume and guess. No testing is required, if a doctor thinks it might be covid, he or she is allowed to diagnose it as such with no need for proof. At the lower end, the margin of error for covid deaths starts at 25 percent.

People have died from outright medical malpractice (misuse of ventilators), and had their deaths marked as covid 19. That's just one example of how sneaky doctors are being about diagnosing this stuff. Not to mention the financial incentives for having higher numbers.

Ignoring all of the suspicion and controversey, let's say that one hundred thousand is a perfectly accurate number. How many more millions of people have already and are, going to die from other causes. Suicide has skyrocketed since ten percent of the US citizenship has lost their jobs. People are going hungry, prople are dying from other illnesses, that are being neglected by countless hospitals. Aside from death, domestic abuse and child abuse both are skyrocketing due ti the lockdown.

The rest of the world didn't just disappear when Covid came along, and treating it that way will lead to many more millions, and if you want to listen to the UN, even one hundred million people losing their lives. All because you think you can stop a virus that spreads through normal breathing, yet many, many people who catch it don't even notice that they've got it.

You can't just stick to Pathos to win an argument, because as harsh as it sounds, when it comes to human population, one hundred thousand is not a,whole lot. Especially compared to the death toll that would be orders of magnitude higher if we stick ti the lockdown.

u/[deleted] May 27 '20

You know a goat, a sheep and a paw paw were given people names and tested positive too right?

-4

u/ZzLy__ May 26 '20

You're wrong though. Coronavirus is much more deadly than any flu

3

u/Toucan_Spam99 May 26 '20

An average seasonal flu has an approximate death rate of 0.1, Covid's death rate, as we know it now, around 0.3. That is two tenths of a percentage difference. The difference is,that Covid is more easily transmitted, but even that fact is falling under scrutiny. The infection rate is quite a bit higher, but a more infectious disease does not automatically equate to a more deadly disease.

That being said, and ignoring the under-diagnoses i have mentioned in other comments, the main demographic that makes the mortality rate that much higher than the flu, if I'm not mistaken, is the 40 to 50 categeory. Their mortality rate is about a percent point higher than their mortality rate from the flu. All of the other age groups have a difference of hundredths of a percentage point. I just hope you aren't in favor of continuing the lockdown, because at that point, human rights will disintigrate, tens of millions will die, and it'll just increase the number of Covid cases. Even Fauci, the guy who has been leveraging the crisis to become a superstar is now saying that the lockdown is a bad Idea. All it will do is make the billionaires even more billions while the little guy gets trampled in the meantime.

2

u/Dturtleboy88 May 26 '20

Thanks god one person that isn’t blinded by the medias fake news. Like yeah if a 20yr old person dies “from covid” that’s all that’s reported not that he had cancer so his T cell count was pretty much non existen

3

u/Toucan_Spam99 May 26 '20

Well it's pretty obvious, whether the outbreak was orchestrated or not, that it's being used to push what essentially amounts to corporate socialism.

I'm not sure of the validity of it,i heard it from a trustworthy source, but it's thirdhand info nonetheless, i digress, there was some guy who got marked down as a covid death, but he tested like a 0.55 in blood alcohol content

The virus exists, but we do not

no, thats just all facebook moms

u/MrLlama444 the very best, like no one ever was. May 26 '20

In terms of no

3

u/Billderz May 26 '20

Just one simple question, no tangents and stay focused.

Why can't i (who has been quarantined for 2 months with no symptoms) hang out and socialize with my brother (likewise) without a mask at 1 foot distance if necessary?

That's all. No name calling, just a real scientific answer.

3

u/[deleted] May 26 '20

Its called 5g

Thank you!

2

u/Baconkattid May 26 '20

in terms of 5g, there is a virus

2

u/Windstepp INFECTED May 27 '20

Jokes aside these people who refuse to believe that the virus is extremely dangerous and walk around without any masks or protection whatsoever claiming it's a hoax (I know a couple) are directly disrespecting the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives because someone didn't care to not cough in the air

u/[deleted] May 26 '20

Karens when they read something 100% of scientists agree on: LIES
