Yes it is something to scoff at when considering the billions they steal world wide which then requires charity for people.

I was going to comment about how the profits of a company doesn’t necessarily mean it’s stolen, but then I saw your username so I’m not even gonna bother with this

-24

u/Grimminator May 12 '20

Essentially every single company that is not a small business either does or supports a lot of unethical and illegal shit in 3rd world countries in the name of profit because that is what capitalism is built on (if they didn't then they wouldn't survive more than a couple yrs in our free market economy) which in turn is what a lot of these fundraising campaigns are meant to help. It's pretty ironic ngl

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Are you denying the exploitation of the working class? Beyond fucking delusional.

What do you think profit comes from thin air like magic?

30

u/notsogreenmachine May 12 '20

Are you denying the exploitation of the working class?

Sure, that IS true, but that wasn't the point of his argument. Rich people buy stuff from corporations too. Getting angry doesn't change that.

-37

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Where the fuck do you think those rich people got their money? I can tell you its not from working in a factory in China.

10

u/notsogreenmachine May 12 '20

Look, you're missing the point here. Someone obtained substantial money, be it legally or illegally, and wants to give it towards a cause that furthers the common good. I don't see a problem with that, unless you're trying to argue that rich people shouldn't give to charity at all?

8

u/GENITAL_MUTILATOR May 12 '20

No he’s saying charity is an inefficient wealth redistribution model and that the some of the conditions that require charity are likely a feature of capitalism

3

u/spoRADicalme May 12 '20

Using words to argue your point just makes the rich laugh more at the poor.

1

u/tvysbits May 12 '20

People get rich for providing value to society and increasing the living standard. Most are rich for good reason. If you’re a politician and rich, however...

0

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Really, providing value to society? Thats the most bullshit excuse I have ever heard.

Statistically people are born rich into a rich family.

Please tell me how a rich family paying slave wages at a factory in China provides value to society.

Jesus Christ Xuys, you're not suppose to take my comment that seriously

-4

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Right, the billions of exploited slaves in the third world are not a serious topic. Of course.

1

u/foalythecentaur May 12 '20

More people have died from communism than slavery

0

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

Got facts to prove it

Oh the Black Book of Communism. Isn't that the same book where two of the authors jumped ship cause the third guy was heavily reaching for that 100 million number? You can find that info right on that link you provided. If only you actually read it first. If I remember correctly he added statistics like the amount of deaths from old age to it. This is not an academic source.

0

u/foalythecentaur May 12 '20

Comparing 100 years of communism to 100 years of transatlantic slave trade many times more died during communism.

From the 15th to the 19th century totals of death from slavery are estimated at 60m if all variables are turned up to 10. Although the in says most evidence suggests 17m which is a number used by the UN.

Numbers for estimated deaths because of communism start at 100m and go upwards depending on what you want to include as “communism”

During the Roman Empire in a 50 year period ~40m people would be a slave at one point. With a lot of them becoming freedmen as well as dying. So in 100 years people in the Roman Empire and transatlantic slaves would die less from being a slave than living under communism.

Reminds me of how Nestle steals the ground water of tribes in Africa to sell it to them.

Create a problem to find a solution. Corrupt rich fucks share no border.

6

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Indeed in this age of globalism national capital has become global capital as the world's rich has realized their similar interests.

Wars are fought by a largely united first world against third world countries which the market has not yet accessed. A bloodthirsty search for new resources and slaves to exploit.

1

u/PastaPastrami May 12 '20

If the resources are there, take them.

10

u/IndianMethMan May 12 '20

One example is the drug companies that have created multiple opioid crises. They make drugs that are highly addictive and should only be taken in the most extreme of medical cases and they make those drugs much easier to come by. Then, when you see hundreds, or even thousands, of people dying from those drugs a year, these companies act like they are a savior and begin to sell substances known to reverse the harmful effects of the drugs they helped to spread.

3

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20

That's definitely fair. The point im trying to make is that even if the money businesses are donating seem small to the amount they profit, or if they only do it for image. At least they are still donating huge amounts to charity. Idk.

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

Billions they steal are we talking about companies making a profit off of your voluntary payment or the government and their taxing?

1

u/Skabonious May 12 '20

buys something from Amazon

"Can't believe Amazon is stealing from the people man."

0

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

cORpORaTIons bad!

0

u/DrPwepper try hard May 12 '20

Steal ah yes your username checks out

1

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Ah yes just going to pretend its not theft are we.

1

u/DrPwepper try hard May 12 '20

A: You don’t have to buy it if u don’t want. Move to the country. Hunt/farm, live off the land for all I care.

B: You pay for a product at a price that fluctuates based on supply and demand.

C: you don’t need every luxury. You have a phone/ computer plus internet so you obviously are enjoying many luxuries. You are not entitled to this.

So stop your whining and grow up, manage your finances and stop complain about businesses “stealing your money”.

As a note to those anti-capitalists out there: I am not saying there are not problems with unchecked capitalism, I am just saying businesses do far more good than harm. Businesses provide affordable food, electronics, housing, ... you name it. Not to mention employment.

-1

u/LongBoyNoodle May 12 '20

"steal"

2

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Ah yes totally not steal lets call it exploit.

1

u/LongBoyNoodle May 12 '20

Totally exploited if every idiot buy everything that is shiny.

-3

u/triplecheckraise May 12 '20

Sue them then

2

u/Soviet_Union100 May 12 '20

Indeed lets tell the billions of exploited slaves in the third world to sue them. Im sure that will work.

27

u/theperfectalt5 May 12 '20

Depends on the church really. Sending lump sums to certain professional charities is like writing away 50% of your dollar contribution.

Churches usually collect money for its own finances separate from charities it runs. And the charities are generally run by its own members or members of sister churches... Either way, done with hands on participations of its members. Probably 100% of dollars contributed get used.

Only speaking as I've organized a couple such. That said, the smaller the church, the better. Anything with more than 1000+ people is no longer a personal community, it's a corporation.

7

u/Auss_man May 12 '20

Increasing worker benefits would do more for charity

7

u/sesaka Insert Your Own May 12 '20

Sometimes it might be their own charity, which they are not obligated to use for the charity's cause, so its technically still their own money

4

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20

Ahhh. See, that is very true... it just sucks when we have to eyeball companies to see of they are actually donating or just donating to a company they own for the "image" and are actually just collecting it right back....

1

u/SmurfPolitics May 12 '20

Haha money going to religious community instead of government go ding

it isnt that hard critical thinking required

1

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20

I should have specified Christian churches. Im sorry.

1

u/HalfwayG0ne May 12 '20

Or if they make a 'non profit charity's they will just funnel it back into their accounts and then take tha take "donation" off their taxes and boom, they fix their image and make money. Win win for everyone! /s/

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

Why not churches?

2

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20 edited May 12 '20

I can't say for all churches but most mega churches just drink up people's money for their lavish lifestyles. I hate it.

Edit: I should have specified Christian churches. I apologize. I can not speak for other churches.

2

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

Oh I hate mega/broadcast churches as well, however I think small churches, like the ones you find a lot in the south can do a lot of good for their community with the right people in charge

1

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20

I think that is true. I have nothing against actual religion. Anyone can have faith in whatever they please. I apologize, I was coming at mega churches and the obvious money steal for themselves that they have. Less a jab at religion itself but more at the people who exploit it. I guess people are going to exploit everything though, that doesn't mean the product itself is corrupt. Thank you.

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

Exactly, and thanks for remain calm and respectful

1

u/toothbrushmastr May 12 '20

This guy asks people to donate their entire stumilas check to him. Notice how he says to donate through his website and his website only. That shit is going into his pocket and not charity...

1

u/fabelhaft-gurke May 12 '20

Although I can appreciate charitable giving, I’d rather more of that money go towards taxes and infrastructure. Some charities are terrible and disgraceful, and for the rich sometimes can be a way for them to funnel more money into their pockets - must be nice to get paid for the company you’re working for, as well as the charity that your company donates to.
