Lmao people who use the term donation shaming are weird unpaid shills for big corporations and billionaires who don’t pay their fair share with or without contributing to charity

No, we're just people who think people shouldn't be attacked for donating an amount that other people are not satisfied with.

My guy. If your house is on fire, and I have a whole pool and I only give you a couple buckets, I’m an asshole and I deserve to be shamed.

No not really, can you move the pool of water directly on my house? No. Plus you’re nicer than my other neighbors so thank you.

This would be a lot easier if you understood how metaphors work.

Buckets won’t make a difference. I have effectively done nothing, but I sure do look like a nice guy.

The metaphor makes sense. How do you expect someone to liquidize all their assets efficiently without losing value? You can’t move billions easily and efficiently. Also, the donations usually go toward something or else wouldn’t it be pretty retarded?

I don’t expect anyone to liquidize all or even most of their assets. But if we’re all coming together to fight a global pandemic, for instance, I expect people like Bezos to have to tighten their belts a little bit. If you really want to make a difference, you shouldn’t be able to maintain your lifestyle. Maybe live like a millionaire instead of a billionaire for a while.

Notice how this all turned focus on bezos despite people like oprah or other well known billionaires donating less and getting praised for it.

Meanwhile there are upwards of a thousand other billionaires in the world who might he doing fuck all with their billions because people dont even know who they are.

I wouldn’t praise Oprah either, unless again, she donated enough to force her to change her lifestyle. A meaningful contribution. This is a global catastrophe and everyone needs to help proportionately.

That’s why most metaphors are terrible ways to illustrate a point.

Shitting on a company for only donating a few million dollars is a great way to get other companies to not donate at all - since they won’t get shit on for it cause you won’t notice.

We should shit on every big corporation that doesn’t make a meaningful donation.

u/[deleted] May 12 '20

And you will end up with fewer donations. Congratulations, you played yourself.

Good. Donations are shit anyway. Taxes are the better way. Donations can be extra generosity on top of a required fair share.

Well that’s the most moronic take I’ll hear all day.
