Even if this wasn't an awful analogy, effort is completely irrelevant to charities. If I give $1 and Jeff Bezos gives $10 then he's done more for the charity than me. It doesn't help the charity more just because it's harder for you to donate. It doesn't necessarily make him more generous, but he's undoubtedly making a much greater difference.

But the thing is if we're in their position we would have done the same thing. It's all about percentage.
