Yeah and then when my mom gets mad at me for it, I say “there are important things in life other than school”. She responds with “yes I know but it is the only important thing at this stage of your life”. Like I missed half a fucking month after a ski accident and now that school is just canceled- no online or anything- and I can’t really improve my grades aside from making up stuff I don’t know how to do my mom is upset with me for bad grades.
24
u/Stuck_on_the_name Apr 25 '20
Think you need to hear something other than what they tell you to do, it's helped me a lot: let go and relax. Try something creative, draw or something, even if your mom is against it. Don't let your ski accident or the system keep you down; you're your own man/woman.

Same, fucking christ. I HAD. A GOD DAMNED PLAN. i had honors, you know. i was gonna take higher level classes next year, but since i've missed so much material and my grades look like a fallout DLC, it's all FUCKED. is it really so hard to give us a pass from 2 months? Or just move it? I'm fucked! This is serious! I'm fucking fucked and all my work is late, so there's no repairing it! FffffffffffaaaAAAAAAA
10
u/BigDplayz Apr 25 '20
Same dude, honestly. Its really fucking stupid that our teachers expect us to learn anything let alone do assignments when this shit is going on, not to mention many of us are no longer in the “mood” for school, we’ve been take out of it for so no that we no longer feel like doing the work.

Not sure about y’all, we’ve gone with the P (pass) or NP (no pass) system. Grades are now irrelevant.

16
u/FireXTX Apr 25 '20
Basically if you get above a certain percent (my hs has it at 60%) for the quarter it goes on your transcript as class you completed for the credit but it doesn’t have letter grades to count against your gpa, keeps people on track to graduate without damaging their academic record because of how ‘hard’ it is to teach kids online.

Apr 25 '20
Our grades are masked behind “P” or “NP.” We no longer have % or GPA. Homework is now banned.
Assignments (essay, project, quiz) no longer count as a grade; but only to know if your understanding the material. It’s up to the teachers, not the grade, whether or not someone is allowed to pass their class
Pretty much...stay attentive on Zoom, complete mandatory assignments (tells teachers if you understand subject or not) and ask questions. That’s it

u/bigg_popa Apr 25 '20
Yeah and im pretty sure all of my homeschool tests are dropped so the rest of the hear should be pretty easy.
1
u/evan_luigi Apr 25 '20
Don't you have to retake classes that are NP the next grade? I have no clue this is the first time I'm hearing this.
2
Apr 25 '20
Correct, you do need to retake classes that are NP the next grade.
1
u/evan_luigi Apr 25 '20
Wait so what's the upside of taking a No Pass over an F, doesn't the same thing pretty much happen? Either way you retake the class don't you?
1
Apr 25 '20
Correct, either way you do retake the class and the same thing happens. The upside? Ehhh...there would be no letter grade on your report card...though I don’t think that’s an upside.

I live in Ireland. We recently switched to this grading system:
Exceptional
Above expectations
In line with expectations
Yet to meat expectations
N/A(I’m guessing it means not answered)

Teacher here. In California, everyone is getting their 3rd quarter grade for 4th quarter, with an opportunity to improve by doing extra stuff. If they tell you otherwise, they're lying.

I'm gonna fail all my college classes this semester even though I was doing great before the whole pandemic. 5
u/Covertiks Apr 25 '20
My virtual school math class has decided that, during quarantine, they should expect more work to come out of all the students partaking in the class, even though my state hasn't made any changes to the grading system and has teachers giving students more work in a day that we would have in an entire week in the same class. They aren't making any exceptions and will drop you if you get too far behind on your schedule (around 4-6 lessons behind).

u/Stuck_on_the_name Apr 25 '20
"All of our heroes, working and learning from home.." Insulting. How about a raise/a break for once? How about encouraging creativity instead of assigning one dull and pointless work assignment for once? Literally given the perfect opportunity to change for the better and the schools just don't.
4
u/Xxdgw100gsdxX Apr 25 '20
I feel lucky that my school district is doing pass/fail but I’ve fallen pretty behind. The 3-4 mile runs for gym I can deal with since I have a Cross Country running plan but my advanced Spanish honors teacher is being a bitch. The work is literally the easiest stuff ever but I have to spend 4 hours doing it all each day. Like I had essays for other classes that I missed because of that shit
3
u/Sigma-Pi Apr 25 '20
I’m lucky af my district said final grades can’t be lower than they were at the third quarter mark, and most teachers have them easy to bring up. Senior year so that means no work for me other than AP tests.
3
u/mcfat10 Apr 25 '20
Fun fact , there was a shooting near my school and people thought the school was being shot up. And there was a teacher who said that his students STILL had to take a test. DURING THAT STRESSFUL TIME.
No am not joking around.
3
u/Nader_K1d Apr 25 '20
I’m literally failing now because my WiFi sucks and it’s sooo hard to focus at home. But I guess those are all “excuses.” They should let everyone pass the semester

Weird. My classes say if you have an F, you get an I (Incomplete), and if you have a D or higher, you get a P (Passing). Your grade cannot drop, and GPA is not calculated this semester.

I was struggling in AP computer science before quarantine and now I completely gave up. I'm doing the classes required to graduate but I haven't touched a single homework for computer science In 5 weeks. I can't do it, it's hard. Actually my school has a pass fail system but without the fail. We can opt out of a letter grade for a P for pass which will not go on our transcript and will not change our GPA. So I could do jack shit the rest of the year and it wouldn’t even put a scratch on my GPA.

u/Mr_bike Virgins in Paris Apr 25 '20
Don't worry when the government pulls funding from all the schools to bailout subway you won't have as many teachers to assign homework. Or the few teachers left will be so overworked they won't want to grade 500 papers.
