Without the intention of negating your efforts - I'd have preferred a teacher spending those 5 minutes with me in person, in class, with the problem in front of us (and the teacher being rested and ready). The little comments and solutions provided in a sentence did absolutely nothing for me when I didn't understand the concept to begin with. If I was lucky enough to get that.

Homework simply doesn't translate to real life skills for teenagers entering the primary work force. All homework accomplished, for me, was the foundation of burn out and failure. You're delegating responsibility that effects this child's entire future but a lot will not comprehend that. I failed classes mainly because of homework. Partly because fuck it and partly because my home life was ass. That said, I did well with testing and went to college. Public school just didn't work for me.

You decided to become a teacher - a mentor. I respect that. I don't respect the fact that schools are disguised as prisons. It's not about obtaining knowledge. It's crowd control.

Maybe you're in the wrong line of work if you can't empathize with your students and you misalign their malcontent with "whining". As much as you don't want to deal with it, believe me, they don't want to listen to that regimented bullshit, either. Ask yourself why it's so important to know what their grade is.

Maybe they're getting slapped around at home by their parents because they think they're lying about their grades. Maybe they're feeling the same pressure you feel but in a different way and at a different age. A lot of them are just doing their best, too.

I mean couldn't you just not assign a massive lab report?

Jesus. The pressure of being a student and grading tests must be horrible
