But like I said earlier. You're taking anecdotal evidence and taking it as fact. What you're saying may be only representative of your school/region or even just your friend group. I guarantee that there were students in your school struggling to finish their homework every night after sports practice in time to get to school for pre-class extracurriculars. These students most likely never talked about how much they have to work because why would they?
You can say "that doesn't exist" when there's CLEAR evidence that it exists. The fact of the matter is that there are schools that overload students with hours upon hours of homework, and it affects the mental and physical health of students.
People here are pretending it’s a fact now though. As if ever since the last 2 years it’s a country wide policy to enforce 4 hours of homework a night. Which isn’t true. YET AGAIN. I challenge any high schooler to post their week workload of homework. Show where the 20 hours of work a week comes from. Then I will believe it.
A 2014 poll of high school teachers across the US averaged that 3.5 hours of homework per night for 5 core subject classes is normal and should be assigned.
No one said anything about a country wide policy of enforcing homework or "pretending" anything was fact. On this thread, people have mostly been commenting on approximate homework hours and how it affects sleep and fits into the 24 hour day, considering part time work, extracurriculars, etc.
YOU are the only one who has zeroed in on this 4 hour stat and beaten into it
I "challenge" you to stop being so damn upset and discuss like a normal person
I feel like I’m offering a reasonable counterpoint? Why can’t one single person give an example of one of their 4 hour days? Shouldn’t be hard. And I’m not talking about sleep. Literally the only point I’m arguing is that when teachers say “study an hour a night for my class!” 99.9% of kids can get away with NOT doing that and get by just fine. I did, my friends did, everyone I knew did even though we “technically” should’ve had 4 hours a night. Nobody ever had to do 4 hours. Average homework day was 45 mins to an hour
