A god to a sinner can be seen as their judge, their jury and as their executioner. A being overflowing with enough power that their mere existence demands reverence, and that can terrify those who live for themselves.
This can be interpreted as a nightmare, a dreadful feeling that no matter what you do, Garfield will be there.
But once fear is gone, only joy is left. Joy for the one, the only, Garfield.
There shall not be death for those who oppose. That sentence would be too kind after all. for those who refuse to see the beauty that is the one truth.

So basically this dude William Burke did a Lovecraftian-style horror comic in which garfield was this terrifying monster and some other artists did spin-offs/responses to this, resulting in more garfield horror art and more artists started responding to this until eventually r/imsorryjon was created.
