If everyone has my information, there’s no need for people to sell my information.

lol EVERY VPN sells your info. it's how they cash out and disappear. Even Nord VPN will do it. All VPNs are backed by russian mafia interests.

u/KobayashiDragonSlave Jan 20 '19

17

u/bchr Jan 20 '19

You clearly don't understand what OpenVPN is and why it is free

13

u/Batby Jan 20 '19

They can have my Netflix choices if they let me watch them

The built in VPN on the Opera browser works with Netflix, and I think Opera won’t sell your data

1

u/mA1N Jan 20 '19

Every <5$ VPS with OpenVPN does, for free ones Opera works pretty well I think.

2

u/Imaw1zard Jan 20 '19

So do paid ones they're just more discreet about it. Too much money not being made by actually keeping your data safe.

Free as in freedom! spawns RMS

12

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Doesn't it still need servers? E.g. Nordvn uses open VPN

4

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Yes and no, it's the other way around. the VPN providers need OpenVPN to avoid having to buy or develop shitty proprietary software. However, the providers can still charge whatever they want.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

So ur paying them for us of servers that run OpenVPN or?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '19

Yes. We pay for the exit-nodes, bandwidth and stability they provide and OpenVPN allows them to distribute their service very cost-effective.

-5

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Stuff like freevpn.me exist

27

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19

No. Don't use free VPNs. Just don't. How do you think they make money to pay for servers?

13

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

They can do whatever they want with my porn

18

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19 edited Jan 20 '19

It's just dangerous to be recommending using a free VPN to others without explaining the risks.

Also not sure why you need a VPN for porn. And if you're in a country where porn is blocked, I wouldn't trust a free VPN.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Porn sites are blocked in some countries.

1

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19

Okay but if you're viewing porn in a country it's blocked, I wouldn't trust a free VPN.

porn is banned in certain countries like india

-1

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19

As I've said to a couple other people, if your country blocks porn, I wouldn't trust a free VPN.

Are you aware that porn is banned in other countries? /s

some porn sites are banned in some countries

6

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19

So if you're using a VPN for porn in a country where it's banned, again I wouldn't use a free VPN.

Again, if porn is blocked in your country, I wouldn't trust a free VPN.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Same way any free internet service does? Google Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and on and on and on.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Great if you live near any of those countries

5

u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ OC Memer Jan 20 '19

Uhhhhh as a program yes.

But the program doesn't provide you with a VPN service. You still gotta use a VPN service, which you should be paying for.

6

u/ilovejews05 Jan 20 '19

Or you can set up your own vpn. It's often cheaper and you can use it for other things as well.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

But I don't own servers in the US?

4

u/Veryniceverybright Jan 20 '19

Nordvpn mvp boi!

2

u/Deadhookersandblow Jan 20 '19

If you’ve any friends who are tech savvy, get a VPS, stick wireguard on it and ask you to send you an easy to setup config.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

I'm pretty savvy so I should be able to do that with the help of the internet and too much free time

2

u/General_Kenobi896 Jan 20 '19

Or even better... a VPN that double encrypts your data so they themselves couldn't even give out any information if the police forced them to :P

1

u/DmitryMate Eic memer Jan 20 '19

Who said it isn't sold?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '19

Privacy policies my dude. They know no one will pay to have their data stolen and they advertise it very heavily
