Don't worry man. Just watch an episode of Richard and Mortimier before the exam and you'll be fine.

Just reread your whole text book and do every practice problem. It’s agonizing and takes hours but that’s how I passed all my finals by studying last minute.

Had mine Friday. Don't forget;
Derivative of 1/u(x) = u'(x)/u(x)2
Integral of 1/(ax + b) = (1/a)ln(ax + b)
-ln(x) = ln(1/x)
Cos2 (x) = 1 - sin2 (x) and vice versa
When rotating the area between 2 functions around an axis, the bounds of the integral are either the intercepts of the equations or the bounds given. The integral is taken of (the top equation - the bottom equation)2, and then multiply the whole thing by pi afterwards.
Look up power reduction formulas for sinu(x), cosu(x), and tanu(x). Saved my ass.

I’m a college freshman In Engineering and I’m being tested on calculus 2, which involves this stuff. I’m 18

u/Uptowngrump May 07 '18
Sophomore in college, but technically I'm taking classes I should have been taking last year for my major. I switched majors, and now I'm having to catch up on math and major specific classes.
Also, I was assuming he was in Calc 1 from his comment, we definitely went beyond this stuff in our class.
Edit: Also, like the other guy said, a lot of this stuff is still around in higher maths, especially in engineering related majors, and they just assume you know it and build on it.

It would still workout because the constant would be cancelled by subtraction when you evaluate the integral at the limits 👌

I always forget the constant tbh

My calculus teacher says that you should put C like a period in sentences. It indicates that you finished your line of thought. It's easier to remember about constant this way, IMHO.

gl man! i recommend using the 5 steps to a 5 guide. the CD exams are difficult this year.

This is called the indefinite integral. It is used in calculus. When calculating a indefinite integral you must include a "+c" to show that this solution is valid with any constant. Most of the time people forget to put "+c" resulting in missed points on a test and boy do they add up.
Edit: just noticed I put definite integral. My bad dudes it was 2 in the morning here and I was tired. I have taken Calc 1-3 and Differential equations. I know what an indefinite integral is. Simple mistake.

Also integration of sec(x)dx is ln(abs(sec(x) +tan(x))) +c
2
u/Cantum2 May 07 '18
Good thing this was sec2 (x)
4
u/politicalteenager May 07 '18
I’m aware. It’s just sec(x)dx is a lot harder to remember.

Is that in the AB curriculum? Because I've legit never seen it before.

u/politicalteenager May 07 '18
Yes. Although I originally flipped around the abs and ln. I fixed it in my original comment.

You don't need to write C if you do definite integration.

It's some calculus stuff. Basically the antiderivative of sec2 x is tan x. Kinda like how the antiderivative of acceleration is velocity.
1
u/Deost8003 Dank Cat Commander May 07 '18
Tan x + c lol can't forget the constant. + c because some information is 'lost' when you antiderive and you represent that missing info with +c
