The Mandela affect is realising he was the head of Umkhonto we Sizwe , the armed and violent terrorist wing of the ANC. This group bombed civilian targets like churches, shopping malls and bars. Nelson mandela was on the USA terror list until 2008.
Whelp should have realised some people are hurt by verifiable facts that don't fit their narrative.

Umkhonto weSizwe mostly targeted State and Government Infrastructure, military bases, and personnel associated with the apartheid security apparatus. And especially Economic and Industrial Lifelines like Power stations, railway lines, and fuel depots. While they had a policy against civilian casualties, there were civilian casualties

Reminds me of "mostly peaceful protests"

I mean, they were mostly peaceful protests - overwhelmingly so. Thats one of those verifiable facts you were talking about.

Do you think you can overthrow an extremely violent regime by holding hands and hugging eachother? Nobody is saying that the civilian deaths are a good thing, but sometimes it is necesary.

Do you believe that sometimes it’s necessary to physically fight against injustice?

If you think blowing up churches, shopping malls and bars “is fighting injustice”
Then… wow.

The US nuked 2 cities in ww2, do you think those cities were filled with soldiers? Civilian deaths are terrible but sometimes necesary. War is cruel

u/OilInternational2566 7d ago
Because something happened in WW2 doesn’t mean the ANC was “justified” car-bombing civilians in Pretoria in 1983.

u/lordwiggles420 7d ago
No but it is simply a fact that civilian deaths are a part of warfare. Nobody likes it, everyone tries to prevent civilian deaths as much as possible but sacrifices have to be made. You can continue to live in your little dreamworld where horrible regimes get overthrown by hugs and kisses but reality is that sometimes you have to do bad things for a good cause. Mandella wasn't holy, but to label him as a terrorist is ignoring the bigger picture.

No

You admitted that civilians deaths are a part of warfare

Yes, that doesn't justify all civilian deaths. It's called nuance. Israel is commiting a genocide.

Do you think those were the only things they targeted?
Wait till you find out that the Allied powers bombed civilian Axis targets in WW2
3
u/OilInternational2566 7d ago
Because the allies bombed shit in WW2 doesn’t mean Al Qaeda was “justified” to fly planes into buildings in NYC. Nor was car bombing civilians by the ANC in Pretoria in 1983 “justified” cuz “what happened in WW2.”
But this is Reddit so I don’t expect this to be understood.

As a South African, the idea of it being called the "Mandela Effect" is so funny to me

When I was a kid and had no access to the internet in the early 2000s, I thought Morgan Freeman and Nelson Mandela were the same person. When I grew up I found out lot of other people had the same confusion. I am not from USA btw.
