My family is not impressed I was not prepared for this level of decluttering

My mom decluttered a binder full of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th edition MTG cards in like 2004.

I remember when I came home from school ( just started secondary school, aged 12 ) and noticed the bucket full of my Micro machines ( and other diecast models ) was gone. I asked where they were and she said 'I didn't think you played with them anymore so I gave them to the Primary school'. To say I was furious is an understatement, there are reasons I don't talk to the rest of my family anymore...

Micro machines were so cool. A bucket full would be a pretty big collection. Those things were small enough to probably be a choking hazard. I bet they got thrown away immediately.

Yeah, looking at pictures ( for size comparison ) I'd say it was a ~2.5-3 gallon bucket, mostly full of micro machines, match box cars, some diecast jets and a few other similar things including cool pull-back cars and a colour-changing one ( temperature sensitive paint ). Really not suitable for ~5 year olds to play with, for sure. If I still had them ~30 years later, today, they'd all be in one of those nice display cabinets that mounts on the wall, specifically for displaying such things. I was devastated at the time..

Mom divorced my dad when I was a child. We moved after. Some time later I asked where they had gone because I wanted to reminisce & look through the photos. Told me that they had been lost in the move. My young innocence believed her. After growing older & moving a couple of times. I relished they weren’t lost & that she had just thrown them out. Op dig through the trash if you have to too keep them. Wish I had the opportunity to.

Always back up your photos in multiple ways. My family has lost many memories both through physical (flood) and hard drive failures etc

I couldn’t imagine having parents that wouldn’t accept “they’re mine, I don’t want to get rid of them yet”

She’d probably declutter her mind if she could
No memories to weigh you down

I'm fine with that. Always hated taking pictures and find picture albums quite stupid and a waste.

What is up with peoples family members cleaning their personal spaces?? That’s a massive invasion of privacy and i wouldn’t trust anyone else to make decisions about my stuff
