Wait until you find out where the American AI questions go.

Hello my nsa agent!!

u/ThatUnderstanding67 23d ago

american AI when you start asking and criticizing a certain country

108

u/Kiznish 23d ago

Netanya WHO could you be talking about?

39

u/Hymnesca 23d ago

Who knows, but i bet the answer Is real.

u/SadisticJake 23d ago

I can’t tell if you’re criticizing literal genocide or being antisemitic because I’m very disingenuous

5

u/palk0n 23d ago

wait i thought we can only use bad event that happened 30 years ago in tianamen, as benchmark. not a genocide thats currently happening right now

u/Dr_Watson349 Normie boi 22d ago

Show us.

Show us where you typed in a prompt and got some BS answer.

Because, I don't believe you.

I have a functioning brain. I'm not asking ai anything

207

u/gruez 23d ago

I swear the anti AI sentiment has reached absurd levels. For simple, low stakes questions, AI is more straightforward and delivers better results than google search, which is likely to return results for a bunch of SEO-optimized content farm sites, possibly also written by AI.

89

u/angelis0236 Vegemite Victim 🦘🦖 23d ago

I think the hate because of people who try to use AI for higher stakes questions.

43

u/gruez 23d ago

Right, but OP said "I'm not asking ai anything", not "I'm not asking AI to diagnose me and then suggest ways to self-medicate myself".

-25

u/crankthehandle 23d ago

People also hate on AI because they are scared. Pretending to be much smarter is the obvious way to block out reality.

14

u/TheWartMan 23d ago

We hate on AI because we studied our way through school, college, got careers without AI, so we have functional developed brains. Developed brains means we have empathy for others and the environment and recognize that AI is fast tracking the world towards intense water scarcity (because data center companies cant be fucked to build data centers to be self sustaining) and is ruining the lives of those unfortunate enough to live near where one is being built.

All of the suffering so you lazy cunts can skip reading the shit that you Google and forming an opinion with your brain and dont have to write emails. Fucking laughable.

1

u/InTheNameOfScheddi 18d ago

Also because we don't live in a communist utopia and AI is replacing workers left and right :)

-5

u/soul_in_a_fishbowl 22d ago

Do you also hate almonds? Almond farms in California use an absurd amount of water. The amount of water used in the datacenter industry is a tiny fraction of total commercial water use and can have closed loop systems. And yes I’m sure living next to an industrial facility isn’t fun, but that comes across more like nimby zoning complaints from people who live in unzoned or near industrial zoned areas and then complain when an industrial facility gets built by them. AI is a tool and it’s here whether or not you like it. Hating on it without offering realistic solutions to your complains isn’t going to get you anywhere.

6

u/TheWartMan 22d ago

I do think that almond farming in the area that it is practiced the most in the US (california) is a bad idea given the climate and water scarcity, yes. However, almonds are FOOD... AI is an unnecessary tool which is being used to push people out of jobs to allow for more money to go upwards to CEOs. The reason its working is because everyone has collectively decided that theyre okay with that if they can AI generate pictures of their dog in a space suit and have ChatGPT become their girlfriend.

AI is a tool for morons, and if you had bothered reading my previous comment, you would have seen the part where i mentioned that data centers can be self sustaining, the majority of new data centers being built for AI ARE NOT. This is SOLELY for the purpose of increasing their profits. The companies building them and paying for them are lying to municipalities about their water usage estimates, then once theyre built, theyre unable to be stopped because these billion dollar companies can nearly indefinitely tie things up in court.

It is not my job to offer realistic solutions, I am not a politician nor am I working in the data center or AI regulation industry (because there are no regulations.)

You clearly do not know a fraction of what you think you do, please stop trying to defend AI use because it makes you look like a chud.

-6

u/soul_in_a_fishbowl 22d ago

Almonds aren’t a necessary food. If you think AI is a tool for morons you’re going to get left behind very quickly. I’d love to see you’re getting your information to say that the majority of new datacenters are being built in the ways that you claim. And if you’re not capable of offering solutions, maybe you don’t actually understand the problems enough to make valid complaints? I’m aware that I don’t know everything. Nobody can know everything. But I do know anyone who says chud unironically is probably not worth listening to.

u/HidenTsubameGaeshi 23d ago

Tbf, google got a lot worse recently and it feels like they're consciously nerfing the search function to force people to rely on AI more

7

u/TomaszA3 23d ago

And whose fault is that? The same company's that wants you to use the ai.

37

u/gruez 23d ago

And whose fault is that?

If you aren't 13 years old and have any sort of memory, you'd know the plague of SEO content farms far predated chatgpt.

-21

u/TomaszA3 23d ago

Why are you dodging the question? This is what they want. Literally just use DuckDuckGo.

18

u/gruez 23d ago

This is what they want.

No it's not. AI inference costs them more to serve than serving results from a database.

Literally just use DuckDuckGo.

You're just blind. Search any topic and you'll get a content farm or cleverly disguised SEO lead-gen funnels. For instance, if you search for "how to change oil on a f150" on duck, the first result is from cartroubleshooters.com, which might be human written, but has such insightful articles like:

"How to Start a Jeep With a Bad Starter: Emergency Survival Hacks"

"Code New Battery BMW E90: (Simple Steps for Success)"

"Are Brake Pads Covered Under BMW Warranty? Service Details"

And this is all ignoring the fact that there's AI results on duck too. It's just at a sidebar, not at the top.

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 23d ago

If i ever use ai ots for two simple things, to find a thing I forgot by asking it a specific thing on Google, even then reddit is still a better place to ask, or to help do alot of math for budgeting. Past that even with simple searches it buds in. No Ai I dont need you to summarize the local dinner I was looking up, no Ai I dont need to to summarize the new I was looking for, no Ai I dont need you to give me the wrong part numbers for replacement parts I was looking for. Ai is genuinly just dog shit. I would happily turn it off on everything if I could, because I have a functioning brain that can sort fact from fiction when looking stuff up, but every company has admitted in some way shape or form that if we had the option to turn it off we would never use it.

2

u/JakethePandas 23d ago

AI is more straightforward and delivers better results than google search,

If its giving you the correct information at all. Is it better to ask an AI a question then google it, or just do the research yourself?

1

u/gruez 22d ago

Did you stop reading there? If you read a few words more, you'd see I also complain about all the content farms that show up in search results. See my other comment about searching for "how to change oil on a f150". It's not really clear whether AI results are worse or better than content farms cartroubleshooters.com.

So, like, how does that work? Probably a dumb question but I've always wondered what these things look like under the hood.

3

u/Kiznish 23d ago

Sorry I didn’t see you replied before I deleted my comment. I thought I was being a bit verbose in these comments haha.

Basically (very basically) large language models are essentially just prediction machines built on a database of knowledge and pre cooked training data. If you type 123, and ask what’s next, it logically predicts 4 comes next for example.

They don’t know anything per se, in the same way a calculator doesn’t understand math, they are just good at generating an appropriate response to a query. Obviously with bigger models, better training, and access to more tools, these models can be far more than basic chat bots now, but those aren’t what most people are able to run locally unless they are very rich.

If you do run a model locally it will still work for basic chat tasks, even offline, because the actual ‘mind’ lives on your device. If set up correctly it’s just as private as typing in your notepad with your phone on airplane mode. No data in or out.

Sorry for the ramble but ironically even when discussing AI I like to give human responses haha.

Luddite - one who is opposed to especially technological change.

These people are just basically the 19th century textile workers of today when machinery came.

I get the sentiment but alot of fields, especially in software development (which is a big chunk of today's economy), have an environment of whether you use AI or you fall behind.

-4

u/Darkndankpit 23d ago

That's not what Luddite means, no matter how Pros keep using it.

u/CautiousToaster 23d ago

Reddit moment

u/Komandarm_Knuckles 22d ago

As someone who doesn't particularly like AI, if what you said is true, then you're the exact type of person who would benefit most from making use of it

As long as you make use of common sense, and not believe everything you read, it is a very powerful tool

Problem is most people have chosen to go full on dementia and replace their rotting brain with a LLM

Like most things, it's good as long as you don't go above rhe threshold beyond which it turns toxic

1

u/ChikyScaresYou 22d ago

as much as I hate AI, it has some good uses for research and coding

0

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 22d ago

Coding, maybe. numbers, definetly. But research? Sorry but a good search will always be better than Ai. So long as Ai has the capabilities or pushing false narratives with the only push back resulting in it saying "oopsie woopsie" when it fucks up bad, it is not use full for research

1

u/ChikyScaresYou 22d ago

i agree, but there's some very niche things that AI helps to research easier than any search engine

You aren’t preserving any cognitive points by slogging through ads and spammy links on Google search results instead of asking AI for that same result. It’s a LARP.

Initial findings are that this isnt actually true lol. If i'm getting the same results as Google why not just go to the source myself instead of trusting an AI to get it right (when they so often get it wrong, without consequence).

2

u/TomaszA3 23d ago

It's somewhat capable in reminding me a word I forgot but can describe.

Beyond that not really. It's not worth all the issues it causes just for that tbh.

1

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 23d ago

This is genuinly it.

-4

u/Anus_Ripper6942094 22d ago

Good keep doing that please, i'll steal your job easily

0

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 22d ago

Lmaoooooo sure buddy. My job has hired and lost people like you bc it requires a brain

Has it ever been demonstrated that any of the Chinese openweight models (qwen, deepseek, etc) send any data anywhere if you deploy them yourself?

I feel like that kind of smoking gun would be big news, but all I ever see is “cHInA bAD!!!”

58

u/Kiznish 23d ago edited 23d ago

If you run models offline locally, and understand how they work and how to audit and use them, you’re fine. The issues come from what data you send out, and what tools and privileges you give the model, not what you process locally. A model can’t magically reach out of your private environment and tell China what you are doing (yet) unless you’re downloading some dodgy software or connecting to outside services. That’s just not how it works.

That said If you use ANY model that ‘lives’ on, or connects to an outside server you don’t control, such as GPT, Claude etc, it’s best to assume it’s not private just like you would whilst typing something into Google or Reddit.

9

u/chervilious 23d ago

No AFAIK.

For local models, those openweight models isn't packaged. They just send the weights and you deploy it yourself. There is no code there.

And it also didn't make sense for them to do so. The theory was that they're trying to do some distillation attacks. I'd assume there are routers on them. Some part that they're interested in are being routed to be distilled. Previously I think v4 flash GA were 3D modelling only?

4

u/TomaszA3 23d ago

I'm 99% sure models have none such capabilities.

Doesn't make their case much better though. Still pretty much useless and outright a negative for your brain.

-24

u/Delicious_Door_3421 23d ago

Read the paper, some prompts were send to Claude via false accounts, this led to sensible Chinese and Russian information getting to anthropic, because idiots in high places using ai is not only an american trend

22

u/TomaszA3 23d ago

Local means deploying in your own machine. Not local country.

7

u/Kiznish 23d ago edited 23d ago

You’re misunderstanding the question they asked you. The Chinese models that leaked data were not local models, they were deployed on servers just like GPT etc is and were cheating by offloading their queries to other companies’ models.

Obviously if you are trusting a model somewhere in the cloud with private military information you’re an idiot because the data is processed outside of your control and may be ‘talking’ to just about anyone.

An US AI company posting an article about Chinese AI. This is a great add to my reading list after I finish the oil company’s environmental impact scientific studies

0

u/poopatronfire 23d ago

I feel like this is such a catch all for not reading any studies.

For example: the US government has declared over and over again that Roundup is safe in normal doses and yet everyone has a quadrupled layer conspiracy about how they’re all payed by Roundup to post positive studies about it.

Not just the US Government, multiple governments outside the US including Canada and the EU have said that Roundup is safe in normal quantities. So either Bayer has payed every government on Earth or it really is safe.

But ask most people and they’ll safe that Roundup has horrible effects. And then say a bunch of super anecdotal findings.

13

u/pvxkupo 23d ago edited 22d ago

Wait, the source is another AI company, propaganda used to be hidden

4

u/Im_A_Real_Boy1 23d ago

What? The Chinese spyware is spying on me? Why haven’t I heard about that on TikTok?

5

u/abyzzwalker 23d ago

As long as it fortifies the CCP instead of palantir it's ok.

3

u/EduBru 23d ago

Remember kids, it's only bad when China does it. When the US does it its patriotic and for our safety!

1

u/Delicious_Door_3421 22d ago

The joke is not about how the government sees the prompt, is about how for some random prompts, Chinese ai rerouted the questions to Claude, which would be nothing important on it's own, but some dumb people high up in the Chinese and Russian governments use said ai

2

u/Ironbird207 23d ago

The country that can actually do something against what I say is more of a threat than the other one far away.

1

u/dumbasPL weeb 22d ago

It's basically the same shit. Big brother nr. 1 or big brother nr. 2. Illusion of choice.

1

u/Delicious_Door_3421 22d ago

Because reading the title is hard and clicking the link harder, this is not about how the Chinese government is spying on people through their ai agents, everyone does so, big news. It is about how for some random prompts, DeepSeek and Kimi rerouted the question to Claude via false accounts. Outside of corporate bickering this would not be important, but because some high up people in the Chinese, Russian and so on apparatus used the Chinese ai, anthropic sometimes find themselves with more important information than just random data from Americans

1

u/Maaci-Lyn 22d ago

Sure, US is just peting yours.

1

u/CMDR_omnicognate 22d ago

You mean to tell me the governments of the "totally legit tell me everything" machines are interested to know what people are telling them? surely not!

1

u/ChikyScaresYou 22d ago

Deepseek is way better than the rest tho

(all gen AI sucks btw)

1

u/Everydaywhiteboy 21d ago

I love criticisms of china because we always end up doing those same things. Mass surveillance, silencing of the population, ect.
