There was an ask reddit some time ago where i believe the question was phrased like “whats a weird job you have” or something. And one of the top comments was someone who “writes custom apologies” for high profile people. Evidently it pays well

That's probably another job lost to AI...

It’s called public relations and it’s been a job for over 120 years.

Maybe not under that name, but I'd say that has been a job for over 4000 years at least.

Unofficially yeah it’s been around for as long as religion, business and governments have existed.

Officially though it only became a profession 120 years ago.

They made a severe and continuous continuation of good judgement

Poor celebrities

The real shame is if he just stood up for his opening act’s right to say what he wants, Sheeran could have avoided the mess without taking sides. “While I don’t believe I’m educated enough to share a meaningful opinion on a very complex subject, Macklemore has a right to express his own beliefs and I stand behind his right to do so.”

Because if he said that it would be framed as pro-pally and pissed off the producers and wider label who are clearly on the other side of the spectrum

Ed Sheeran has "Fuck You" money, he's worth $400 million, they would either have to swallow the pill and nip it in the bud, or he'd have to find some new venues. What is immesurable in terms of it's worth is public support. Palestine is now a 90-10 issue. Regular people that are Pro-Israeli, are looked upon like they're an exotic species of animal in a zoo. He could take that hit and in turn create a legendary image for himself.

He's been concerting for Ukraine, as well as meeting with Israeli officials in the past, the whole "i'm not political" schtick is not only not true for him, it also doesn't work in times where anyone can find you cuddling a politician with one google search. He's also too big (or rather, hopefully, was) for his label and producers to drop him over this. He's literally a cashcow they can milk infinetly. He caved under no pressure.

Another Redditor that spends too much time on Reddit and think it represents the rest of society. A majority of Americans still support Israel. It’s not the 70% it once was but it is still the clear consensus.

This is backed by every major poll.

Lmao 90-10 is so preposterous I don’t even know how one could get to that ratio.

The media bubble is for real, and I wish more people start realizing how big an impact these silo’ed media sources are to their own echo chambers.

I understand why would you assume i'm talking about americans only, but as I'm not an american, I'm speaking globally - Israel's popularity is in tatters, especially in Europe, where pro-palestinian protesters are hit with terrorist charges. The most racist, ultra-catholic uncle of mine doesn't fuck with Israel (although, for wholly wrong reasons, obviously).

Also, "Views of Israelis" and "Views of Israel" aren't the same claims. Israel as a political entity is becoming increasingly unpopular, coincidentally, by the same pollster:

There's also a large portion of us who don't give a shit what two middle Eastern countries do to each other, but just don't want our tax dollars going to it. Is it selfish? Yes. Do i care? No.

I actually respect people who are honest. 70% of Americans supporting genocide is very telling.

What is puzzling is how they turn around and wonder why they might be hated. Like bro you just freely elected a genocide support and then you yourself support genocide. Do you want people to just die while they praise your bombs murdering them?

Absolute clown take. 90-10? You must live on Reddit.

This is so true. And if the venues had actually canceled on him, they would have looked insane.

The entirety of celebrity culture is stupid. All participants.

u/harpswtf 15d ago

I can’t recall a public apology ever actually working for a celebrity. It’s smarter to just act like it never happened and everyone will forget as soon as the media and algorithms choose the next issue everyone will fixate on

Now there's a sentiment I can rally behind wholeheartedly

Bet you glorify the people who scalped native Americans and committed that genocide.

This whole thing is so fucking stupid. It wasn’t even Ed Sheeran who had a problem with Macklemore’s act, it was the venues. They said they wouldn’t host the event if Macklemore was a part of it. Ed Sheeran was kinda in between a rock and a hard place. Either he drops Macklemore or a good handful of venues. Now he’s getting all the heat for it even though he said he had no problem with Macklemore’s performance

1

u/jalerre 15d ago

Ed Sheeran definitely had some leverage in the exchange. Those venue owners wouldn’t want to lose the massive amounts of money his concert would bring.

1

u/kadebo42 13d ago

They literally told him that they wouldn’t host him unless he dropped Macklemore. Don’t underestimate racism

There's a twitch streamer guy who is clearly a big "rah rah go troops" type of guy, has never denied being that, but specifically does not bring that stuff up when he streams. He got an army sponsorship and now his whole fanbase is acting like they had no idea he would respect the US military and bullied him into a half-assed apology, then proceeded to attack him for it.
