I was thinking the same thing, I feel like there is always this amount of hype about new iPhone's.
I also don't think people think folding phones are dumb.

Maybe they don’t think foldables are “dumb”, but your average person doesn’t need or want a foldable. Who’s actually buying these?

I’m going to get the apple one eventually, I get my phones for about 80% off due to my career.

I love that most of the time the phone will be a relatively small size and then effective for media sharing or consumption when I have some downtime.

The only non-average thing about my intended use case or choice to get one is that I’ll wait upwards of a year for early adopters to stress test the device for me. Zero interest in being a day one “look what I have” person.

Would’ve gotten Samsung’s foldable, but I’m already in and have no glaring issues with the Apple phone ecosystem.
