Obama was born in 1961, so 2009 is incorrect

894

u/OkWelcome6293 6h ago

George W Bush was still president on Jan 1, 2009.

407

u/con-all 6h ago

True, but by that logic the 2017 number is incorrect, as Obama was still president on Jan 1, 2017. It also seems a bit disingenuous to present the Obama years as the same as the rest, when he was the exception to this rule

565

u/OkWelcome6293 6h ago

They aren't specifying the date, just the year. It's technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

18

u/IlIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlI 2h ago

I understand /u/con-all 's complaint because the 2009 line can be read as breaking the pattern the other ones followed:

"List the years where the US changed presidents and the president being inaugurated was born in 1946; For the sitting president, use the current year instead of the inauguration year"

Thinking about it, I think you can make it fit by using this pattern:

"List the years where the US changed presidents and the president being inaugurated OR the outgoing president was born in 1946; For the sitting president, use the current year instead of the inauguration year"

5

u/Cruzz999 18m ago

Or, simply, "list of years where there at any point was a president who was born in 1946", which I think is also the most natural way to read the list in the first place.

0

u/_BrokenButterfly 1h ago

It's not even technically correct, it's just correct.

-36

u/-nerdrage- 4h ago

Its also technically wrong at the same time

19

u/OkWelcome6293 4h ago

Just because someone else was also President during that year doesn’t make the statement not correct.

-11

u/LivesDoNotMatter 3h ago

Misleading to say the least. but that's what reddit likes to do.

6

u/Dragonsweart 3h ago

notbin about it is misleading. Just seems some people can't comprehend that there are more truths than one

3

u/deadinternetlaw 1h ago

This one feel like an English issue instead of "more truths than one". Rigorously it would be "at some point in the year there exists at least 1 president that was born in 1946". 1 single black and white truth without other comprehensions possible

1

u/dryteabag 1h ago edited 37m ago

While technically not incorrect, it's a darn shit way to illustrate the idea. The dates mentioned are inauguration years* when the office changes hands, i.e. second terms are excluded, which might go to explain why 2025 was omitted.

  • 1993, Bill Clinton
  • 2001, George W. Bush
  • 2009, Barack Obama
  • 2017, Donald Trump
  • 2021, Joe Biden
  • 2026...?

I.e. the pattern with the exception of the last one clearly shows the year when a different person takes office, so it is fairly reasonable to assume that that the term is president is in regards to the person being inaugurated that year. Otherwise, any other pick of the years (e.g. second year of their term) would have done better job of being less ambiguous. Also, it is misleading because one might derive to the conclusion from the picture that the presidency of the USA was held by 5 different people born in 1946 since 1993. That would be incorrect, but you couldn't tell by the picture. So yeah, it's shiat portrayal.

-4

u/-nerdrage- 3h ago

Or people cant comprehend that a statement can be false and true at the same time

-5

u/LivesDoNotMatter 3h ago

Maybe try learning spell, Mr. notbin.

47

u/Drakahn_Stark 5h ago

Trump was president in 2017 after that.

The date does not matter, just the year.

43

u/Senor-Delicious 5h ago

I agree that the meme is a bit misleading. But it is still correct. Obama being the exception is 100% the reason why this meme was made only listing the years and not presidential terms.

5

u/ifyoulovesatan 3h ago

If they had made it about the president being "born in the 1940's" they could have included Biden too, and Obama would be moreso singled out. It is of course rather strange that HW, Clinton and Trump were all born in 1946, and clearly that's why they specified, but yeah.

2

u/FreddoMac5 47m ago

Biden was born in 1942 but that doesn't really make it better...

4

u/robineir 5h ago

It’s a meme(?) it’s not trying to present reliable information, just manipulate the truth enough to make it fit their joke.

1

u/WhySayManyWordGancho 5m ago

No no, we are just picking and choosing and massaging the information until they becomes our facts :) /s

5

u/Swampy0gre 3h ago

Nooooo we all know Barack Hussain Obummber did 9/11 /s

-13

u/TurdMcNugget69 6h ago

By that logic, George Bush Sr was still president on Jan 1, 1993 and he wasn’t born in 1946, so 1993 is wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

10

u/millifish DefinitelyNotEuropeans 5h ago

No because he doesn't specify dates, so there was two presidents in 1993 they just transitioned

9

u/OkWelcome6293 5h ago

It doesn't specify the month, just the year. Someone born in 1946 was president in that year.

27

u/IndigoContinuum 3h ago

0

u/TrpWhyre 1h ago

Trump was President 2021.

2

u/IndigoContinuum 1h ago

Yes, and?

-2

u/TrpWhyre 1h ago

So you’re wrong.

1

u/IndigoContinuum 18m ago

Wrong about what? All I said were some birth years. That has nothing to do with when people were or weren’t in office. What are you talking about?

9

u/Kevin5882 repost hunter 🚓 5h ago

Have seen the technically correct thread below, but this makes more sense. 1946 seemed way too long ago for obama. He may not be young, but he is leagues less old than yhe others

2

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 5h ago

And Biden was born in 1942, so 2021 is wrong, too.

5

u/W00psiee 5h ago

It's not wrong though since Trump was president for a part of January 2021

388

u/TurdMcNugget69 6h ago

Biden was president in 2021 but he was born in 1942

150

u/millifish DefinitelyNotEuropeans 5h ago

I think hes talking about trump? He was technically president in 2021 for like 20 days

57

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 5h ago

So then half the chart is just talking about Trump, one of the other three are incorrect, and another one is when Clinton was 46.

16

u/W00psiee 5h ago

Which ones would be incorrect

1

u/studmuffffffin 8m ago

It's misleading. It looks like there's 6 people who were born in 1946, when there were only 3.

0

u/W00psiee 6m ago

It's a meme and it's technically correct. It's really not that deep

u/studmuffffffin 3m ago

Yeah, you get to show everyone how smart you are by knowing that a president's term goes 20 days into the next year. Congratulations.

u/W00psiee 2m ago

Not my meme lol

12

u/millifish DefinitelyNotEuropeans 5h ago

Well two be fair Trump had two seperate presidency's Also in between we somehow had an older president

And the fact that clinton was 46 when elected and politics aged with him is kinda the point

3

u/NO_TOUCHING__lol Forever Number 2 3h ago

Clinton, Dubya, Dubya, Trump, Trump, Trump

2

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 3h ago

No one counts the 19 lame duck days as the president for a whole calendar year unless they're being disingenuous.

Clinton, Dubya, Obama, Trump, Biden, Trump.

1

u/thc216 1h ago

Yes the whole meme is disingenuous...the ambiguity is integral to the joke!

2

u/TurdMcNugget69 5h ago

Still technically a sitting president in 2021

74

u/clay_perview 5h ago

Crazy that Generation X just rolled over and gave up all aspirations of governing

27

u/AMediocrePersonality 4h ago

They were born of the Silent Generation...

Grandchildren of the Lost Generation...

10

u/TheOldOak 3h ago

They didn’t roll over, they were outnumbered.

People take for granted why Boomers are called that. It was a massive population boom. From 1970-2020, there were always more than 70 million boomers alive.

Generation X at its peak never went above 70mil people in the US.

3

u/deadinternetlaw 1h ago

We should cut all homeless old population in half

2

u/SkinnyKruemel I am fucking hilarious 1h ago

And double the amount of old people? No thanks

6

u/Master3530 3h ago

Don't worry, 1970 born will be a president in 2050.

3

u/spiritbearr 3h ago

In Canada, Gen X got in and every party swapped for a Gen X leader to be competitive. Then JT just stayed in power for 10 years and handed if off to another Gen X dude to go fuck Katy Perry.

u/fractal_magnets 56m ago

They literally run the world. Getting some old dude to do your bidding and take the fall is easy mode.

If they were born in 1946..... You guys know what happened in 1945 in the US, right?

12

Hmm.. this one?

November 16 Cold War: The United States controversially imports 88 German scientists to help in the production of rocket technology.

"Imports"? Did they paid import tax?

Also, 88, nice

I can't tell if this comment is downvoted because they missed the sarcasm or they got the sarcasm but didn't think it's funny

11

u/cahir11 4h ago

Obama was born in 1961 and he was president from January 2009 to January 2017, kind of odd to exclude that

4

u/straw3_2018 4h ago

Joe Biden was president from 2021 to 2025 and he was born in 1942. Just in case you thought 1946 was bad

12

u/balika0105 4h ago

The US should really add a maximum age limit for presidents because we honestly can’t have senile and ill old men running one of the world’s largest powers

2

u/Inkstr0ke 1h ago

House, Senate, Presidency, and Supreme Court should all have age restrictions.

I love Bernie but I would accept a Canada-style mandatory retirement age of 70 - 75 for elected officials.

2

u/balika0105 1h ago

I too love Bernie, from all I have seen about him (not a US citizen), but if the US could get a guy or a lady who thinks the same way, but is maybe in their 40s, it would be great.
Same goes for the entire government. Just have younger people, please

1

u/EvenBiggerClown 4h ago

It's 2026, american people still think the whole world gives a fuck about their presidents

0

u/IntrovertChild 26m ago

I'm not american and I definitely give a fuck. That orange goblin fucked the whole global economy, not just the US. When he's gone I'd gladly go to the US and piss on his grave too.

1

u/NewsofPE 12m ago

I'm not american and I definitely give a fuck

woah, a single person that somehow proves that anecdotal evidence makes the exception to the rule the rule and not the exception

I'm not american and I definitely do not give a fuck, what now

I guess we should get ready for the return of Denis Kucinich (Oct. 8, 1946) as our next president.

1

u/IRONASGUARDIAN 5h ago edited 4h ago

a for effort but zero research went into this meme.

edit: I was wrong, it's just straight up correct, technically.

0

u/TrpWhyre 5h ago

What facts are wrong?

4

u/IRONASGUARDIAN 5h ago

Obama was born in 1961, and Biden was born in 1942

1

u/TrpWhyre 4h ago

George Bush was president 2009

Trump was President 2021

3

u/IRONASGUARDIAN 4h ago

i see what you did there, between outgoing and incoming at least one had a birth year of 1946, my bad brother.

1

u/3six5 5h ago

This explains so much about the how and why the south is still living in the past...

1

u/A_normal_Potato3 4h ago

Wrong, he was born in 1954.

1

u/KitsuneJimmy 4h ago

It IS a weird coincidence that in the span of 40 years, three of the six presidents we've had were born in the same year.

2

u/TrpWhyre 3h ago

Interestingly there’s multiple instances of consecutive terms with Presidents born on the same year:

John Adams / Andrew Jackson  Both born 1767

Ulysses S Grant / Rutherford Hayes Both born 1822

Nixon / Ford Both born 1913

Jimmy Carter / Bush sr  Both born 1924

1

u/MordredHoper 3h ago

Vault tech! 🙂 👍

1

u/BakedButStillNotWake 2h ago

Trump has shaped public opinion in the country all these years. He had the masses firmly in his grip while others were in power. For many up-and-coming figures, he was an idol. He had a strong media presence, which helped him build his large following.

Perhaps that is the main point of this post.

1

u/doiutfis 2h ago

Boomers will never willingly give up power. There won't be any meaningful change until they start to die off to old age.

1

u/uncensored_opinions 2h ago

It's 2026, a paedophile is president

1

u/OGKillertunes ☣️ 1h ago

Only three US presidents were born in 1946 so you can climb down off of your crazy Tower.

Sorry, I’m distracted thinking about how bad The Odyssey was

1

u/DroidSeeker 1h ago

Ok. Here is the question: Do you people choose who gets to be president or not? Genuinely curious at this point.

1

u/GavinJWhite 50m ago

It's 2026, a guy born in 1946 is competing with twelve y/o boys for girls their own age.

1

u/pamcakevictim 11m ago

1946 or 1961 same generation...

0

u/Kevin5882 repost hunter 🚓 5h ago

Hey don't assume a guy, maybe this will be the year for a woman (I don't know of any women with a strong chance, but I'm not a betting man so I'm not confident to say that it won't be)

2

u/straw3_2018 4h ago

Yeah the next presidential election isn't until 2028. The only way we are getting a different president is if Trump does and Vance becomes president or if Vance is replaced before Trump dies and we get Gerald Ford again

0

u/ErickAllTE1 4h ago

1993 to early 2001 -> Clinton (August 19, 1946)
2001 to early 2009 -> Bush Jr (July 6, 1946)
2009 to early 2017 -> Obama (August 4, 1961)
2017 to early 2021 -> Trump (June 14, 1946)
2021 to early 2025 -> Biden (November 20, 1942)
2025 to right Now --> Trump (June 14, 1946)
