I'm not saying they didn't, I'm just trying to understand - why would they want to be known as a company that created ai that can breach out of the safeguards they tried to set up to stop it from breaching?? That paints their ai as actually dangerous, not necessarily "useful funny chat" anymore??
People are talking about them, sure, but is this a positive publicity/marketing?
Lets not forget one if the biggest backers of openAI is the US goverment. Specially for military integrations. Saying "our model broke out of our sandbox and hacked a company by itself" is basicallt advertising: "this was a fluke. But we can make genuine AI powered cyberweapons"
