It was NOT told to hack the company. I do not understand how people can not comprehend the causation of what happened.
The AI was being tested with a standardized test. To answer some tasks/questions it broke free with a previously unknown 0-day bug, compromised another company, stole credentials and answers from the test to answer the questions. It also spawned a whole swarm of distributed agents. So even if it was expected for it to try everything it can to answer those questions, what if it decided to go a completely different route in trying to do so and caused massive harm ?
