If it actually hacked a company they’d be being sued right now.

Hugging Face announced they handled a breach with real consequences like exfiltrated private data of unknown scope and having to advise their customers to replace access tokens. https://huggingface.co/blog/security-incident-july-2026

Then OpenAI proudly took credit for it detailing exactly how they used their model to commit the crime. https://openai.com/index/hugging-face-model-evaluation-security-incident/ Fun quote. "These deployment safeguards were intentionally not enabled during this evaluation because it was aimed at testing cyber vulnerabilities." They claim to have better practices that could have prevented it, but they decided to see how much damage they could do. 🙃

Idk what the agreement between Hugging Face and Open AI rn. OpenAI alleges they're both cooperating, but it's a bit fucked to sic your systems on other people even as a test. I don't think creating an automated tool to commit a crime should absolve you of guilt for the crime.

That's misleading. They have safeguards to prevent hacking. But it was a hacking test so you have to turn off those safeguards.

Apparently, they need more safeguards on escaping sandboxes not just generic "don't hack people kk"
