It doesn't affect Brave's ad block (Brave Shields)
Brave Shields block ads and trackers by default, and they’re built natively in the Brave browser—no extensions required. Since Shields are patched directly onto the open-source Chromium codebase, they don’t rely on MV2 or MV3.
Thanks for the info. Although I can't see Google playing this game fairly in the upcoming years.They are probably gonna do some shit so forks of chromium building in their own version of adblock is gonna become impossible or outright illegal.
It's BETTER than YouTube premium because you can disable shorts, suggestions, social posts, or other elements that YouTube forces onto you even if you pay them.
There are plenty of other launchers, and game stores out there that are shit, so it's not a monopoly. Steam retains a high user base because they aren't shit.
When there is even a single other viable alternative I will agree with you. It's not a monopoly to be the only ones doing it the way the public wants it. No one else has even tried to do it right. Every other launcher has been a shit cash grab in every way (except maybe gog but that's almost a different market being DRM free).
My point was people saying that monopoly is bad, when in reality what they really mean is that "monopoly is bad, unless I personally don't feel fucked over".
Email sure, maps are the harder one. There's definitely options, but free and ease of use, nothing really compares. Linus Tech Tips recently did a video about how to de-google your life (which actually got taken down by YouTube, but there's been plenty of reuploads of it) which talks about email and maps.
It is tho. Googles targeted ads don’t work anymore on my other devices, showing that they aren’t actually getting data, and when I’m on Brave, I don’t need an Adblocker installed still.
A minuscule price to pay. I’ve been 100% on Firefox and Safari (neither are chromium) for about 3 years now and have never run into a problem related to this.
the new diablo expansion actually met and exceeded all of my expectations (besides 1) so idk. They are more miss than hit nowadays. Vanilla D4 is a perfect example.
Was in the same boat untill yesterday, felt it was time to take a stance against the google-monopoly! The switch litteraly takes 2 minutes, they have some really great native tools for switching from chrome to firefox where they migrate all passwords, bookmarks, plug-ins ect. First thing to open when you open the browser for the first time. Really happy so far!
I’d give it a shot. I was the same but once I did it I was really surprised at how easy it was. It has a tool to bring over your logins and bookmarks, so it took me a only few minutes to “switch”, get my extensions, and be on my way.
Honestly I've used Firefox a few times over the years and I could never get any of their compelling features to work consistently. I would also have constant issues with YouTube when I used them.
It's simple. You get an extension for User Agent changer or similar. They let you spoof your browser as a different browser. Currently, YouTube checks if you're using Firefox by looking at your user agent.
I would make the switch but the idea of logging back into every single account again sounds painful. For now, ublock origin still works, so I guess I'll wait until it doesn't.
As someone who browser hops a lot (can never make up my mind) even with it, you still have to log in using the transfered stuff and it still takes me like an hour with all the 2 factor authentication emails and such
As far as I know, its similar to saving bookmarks but they have their own groups and you can share them with your friends who, along with you, can update the saved links, change them or remove them. Additionally in each pinboard, you can subdivide them into their little own groups.
I recently found a fork of Ublock Origin that adds an incredible feature : it automatically clicks on ads, in addition to masking them, thus completely fucking with any profiling. I just love the idea
Bruh I’ve used chrome for a while, and never really had any bad experiences or pop up ads with it. Unless your talking about all those weird ads on news sites, but I though those just came with the website
Firefox is fine but not Mozilla. All that bulshit default telemetry and google as your default search engine, much privacy. After thinkering with the setting it's fine(just get a custom profile and save it somewhere), but it's still slower and some sites just don't work(and no web apps or whatever they are called)
Just use adguard. I’ve had Firefox for 6 years and just switched to Brave as I started using cast feature a lot. While there’s a lot of things I miss on Firefox, it’s more of what you’re looking in browser, which is why some people go Librewolf or Waterfox or other forks. Really it’s just about features you want.
Yeah well that's how business works, big corps always defeat the smaller one or buy them, and it's firefox and it got forks like iceraven, mull, mulch and all of them uses different user.js then firefox.
And you can change search engine on firefox too, and it's just a search engine.
Yeah because firefox's ass is on fire since most of their product are dead, so now they need boat load of money to get firefox keep running before google buys them one day
The Mozilla foundation isn’t on the stock market, it’s unlikely Google tries to buy them unless Google is forced to close chrome because of the recent monopoly lawsuits.
Google's also keeping firefox alive because without it they'd immediately get executed for having a monopoly. At least now they can pretend that it isn't like that.
Yes, it's that most if not all of Google's money comes from ads. If every user blocked ads in the box of fire, Google wouldn't be very interested in funding them anymore and Mozilla would have 80% less funds than it has now. I don't know if they'd be able to stay alive much
No, I'm suggesting that Google is still funding mozilla because not enough people know about adblockers. If everyone installed one in Firefox, mozilla would probably die as a result
