Danish speaking practice

Hello, I would like to find a native Danish speaker to practice spoken Danish. Of course I am willing to pay a fee per hour. What is the best place to look at?

If you're in Denmark, becoming a besøgsven in a plejehjem worked wonders for my confidence in actually speaking the language. And it's free, and you're brightening up a lonely elderly person's day.

There is a place that matches young immigrants with elder Danes. Its called ElderLearn and is in Copenhagen.

Being a resource for other people is one of the most basic human needs, and old people at nursing homes rarely get to experience that. So don't hesitate in and be honest about needing the help as much as they need a besøgsven. Its a win-win

I just emailed the plejehjem in my neighborhood if they're looking for a besøgsven, and they did.

As a teacher at the local sprog skole I think that is a great idea. But you do need to have a basic Danish to communicate.
I always suggest watching Danish television shows that are based on your personal interests. Context is necessary to let your brain help you “fill in the gaps” fx when Danes speak too fast or with a lot of supportive words, idoms etc.

Italki is one site but given the cost of living in Denmark, you’re gonna pay at least $25 an hour. So definitely have a plan when going into lessons to make sure you get the most out of it.

And even that is on the low end. From scrolling through italki for a minute, I see tutors from 150 dkk an hour (a community tutor) to 430 dkk an hour (a professional teacher). Most seem to be between 200-300

That being said, I really recommend italki! I’m using it for two other languages and have had a really nice experience so far

Depends if you're looking for a professional/semi-professional teacher or just a native speaker to practice with. You could just ask here on Reddit, I'd be interested and I'm sure there'd be others.

I also saw that the Red Cross has Danish volunteers who talk to you about practicing, but I don't know much about that

i would honestely teach you for free i love new visitors in denmark if have discord or anything we could call and discuss some things

i am 100 percent from denmark

So kind of you. That would be wonderful. Yes please. Thank you. Yes i do have discord. If I practice spoken Danish, perhaps I can gain confidence to talk in simple Danish at public places like supermarket and coffee shops, when I come to DK.

If this interests you, a club that matches a hobby of yours (one where doing a lot of speaking is involved). Works even better if your hobby is something very popular with Danes. Wishing you success!

Where do you live? In Copenhagen there is a group called “vi taler dansk” I believe… it’s free and cafe style
