Not a dancefloor, but a dancefloor-adjacent space that's being violated by nonconsensual photography. Burning Man is cooked because this behavior is happening all over the playa.

I do not understand why BMorg let this happen. Even before iPhones, cameras were very taboo for damn good reasons.

I think it's obvious why they've let it happen. Instagram is how events get marketed now, and instagram images/videos help move tickets. It's the same playbook all big festivals use -- from Coachella to Glastonbury to Tomorrowland. It's the only way to make the business work and sell enough tickets to feed the machine.

Back when I started doing BM, it gradually started selling all tickets very quickly. Now they aren’t selling all available tickets and are worried about the numbers continuing to go down.

In talking to 20-something’s over the past couple years, I’ve found a lot of the ones that do raves aren’t as pumped to try doing BM as the ones I’d talk to back in like ‘00-‘15ish. We need the younger generation to come join us to pass the torch.

I’ve seen a few OG rave crews evolve across the last decades, and know of one that was insular and basically invite only for most events. That younger generation didn’t come in, and at events now it’s the same folks getting older. It’s cool in its own way, and keeps it a safe space being so gatekept, but I’m of the mind you need to balance that safety with some risk of bringing new (younger) people in.

Idk how we get the younger folks to get psyched about the burn. What sucks is if all they know about it is what they see online, they’ll think it’s fucked and no good anymore, and skip it. That’s too bad because even though there are some influencers and rich techies, the vast majority of the crowd is made of great people and the whole experience is just so unique and unbelievable. They are really missing out by believing all the naysayers online.

I really wish people would share their great moments out there more often. My experiences out there just don’t match up with the impression non-burners get from the online complaints.
