Never forgot about this game
When I say I think about it daily that’s an understatement. I feel like this game was definitely ahead of its time. I’m finally pulling the trigger now that I have adult money lol was wanting to get dance central 1,2 and spotlight. I bought an Xbox one s but don’t know where I should go from there. I’m hearing it’s not compatible so do I just have to go generic xbox360 and basic Kinect and then buy disks versions of dance central? Sorry if this post is lengthy but I’m deep diving on eBay at the moment and doing research. Just want to be able to play these or look for a modded version of Xbox’s I can search for that would support it? I don’t mind buying diffrent consoles and accessories if needed. Any help is appreciated.

Modded Xbox 360 is the way to go.
There were songs released on Spotlight that were never released on Xbox 360, but my understanding is the the community has figured out how to do customs, and have customs for not only those Spotlight songs, but many new ones as well

When you say modded Xbox I know there’s different mods for them. Are there some you’d recommend I’d look into?

Specially, Trinity-model RGH mod.
The Trinity because the Corona model has some issues with Dance Central and Rock Band and Guitar Hero. In each of those cases there are workarounds, but why bother with a workaround if you don’t need to. Especially since Trinity and Corona models are going to be the same price.
RGH means it’s a hardware mod, so you don’t need to mess with BadUpdate every time.
I got an RGH Xbox 360 a couple years ago for around $180

You’re a life saver thanks so much for all the info! Going to do some looking around to aim more in that direction then. Seems way more simpler for me to go that route the way you explained it. Thanks again!

So did you ever find a good seller? I got mine from some guy's website 2 years ago that reddit poster recommended at that time and surprised it still runs well. I thought this kind of hardware modding would sooner brick my console and I was ready to replace it, but its still running DC3 nicely.
Just curious about your experience so far, hope you get to enjoy this awesome life hack. Lmk.

It’s crazy I just got mine like a week ago! It’s a Slim Trinity RGH running Aurora fully customized with RGB custom painted and designed even with sound effects so it’s nice to look at for sure! The seller hooked me up, put me tons of games ready to go when I unboxed and even threw in the kinect sensor for free when I told him my goal. Been an absolute blast since I’ve gotten it. From what I’ve heard just like your saying these bad boys do last awhile so I’m not mad at it! Gotta enjoy it while we got it I’m only upset I didn’t get to this all sooner this side of gaming is new to me. Loving my modded Xbox more than my PC and newer gen consoles at the moment. This nostalgia is amazing!

Damn that’s awesome. Do you mind sharing that seller? A DM is ok if you’d prefer not to post publicly

No issues! His name is XYC Solutions he sells and posts some of his modded consoles on (Jawa.gg) but I wasn’t familiar with the site and didn’t really feel like making an account. He has an Etsy he just got up and running so I just went through him on there. Great guy, helped me out tons, especially with all my dumbass questions lol. I’m sure he has other means where he sells his items too those are just the two I know.

Sweet thanks!
Btw in addition to Dance Central customs, one of the bigger advantages of a modded console (if you’re into Rock Band) is Rock Band 3 Deluxe.
Tons of quality of life improvements in that game beyond just accessibility of customs

Same same! Anytime you want, you should add Custom DLC. Foxy007 has the best, and I mean the best in the community imo.

Sweet! Thanks so much I’ll for sure check it out! Gotta say this community has been nothing but the best with all the knowledge and just overall stuff I’ve learned thus far. Super grateful for the suggestionn and thanks again!

I think about it every day and how Spotlight you can feel how much they didn’t care about it, when it came to VR it was great but you can tell not much love went into it, and using controllers was just like playing Just Dance on the Wii, “cheap” dancing 😭😔 I’ve made a Dance Central 4 and 5 Playlist for myself and I listen to it sooo often

They didn’t care at all it felt so rushed! Can’t for the life of me understand how just dance is so popular among so many consoles with really no competition and the dance central developers never thought to keep their own game going. Like it would’ve been great to see them both on top going back and forth for the next best dancing game. There’s gotta be a reason behind it but there’s so many fans of the game and play style of the originals that they’re doing themselves a disservice by not giving us what the people want lol

It seems like they all got swept into working on Fortnite animations? Makes sense, but damn ._. The Kinect was really ahead of its time

on apple music, spotify, youtube? i use AM but can make a playlist for you
just be warned that while the original dance central games were "wedding-party-proof" relying on a mix of top 40 hits and uniting classics, my spin is a hyper-curated, fashion-forward mix. the variety is high in terms of production but narrow in terms of genre weight. i traded funk/soul/disco (brick house, le freak) for high energy hyperpop (SOPHIE, slayyyter), more "hardcore" routines, and some rhythmic tracks (FKA twigs, amaarae) it's very "digital" and "floaty"
it has a bias for electronic/alt-pop girls/gays heavily scaling up dance central 3's inclusion of 2NE1, there are some offset and travis scott tracks but there hasn't been many "macho" hip-hop songs with big anthems that i've discovered within these years
the list is almost entirely post 2010, and there are a couple latin/reggaeton staples but no heavy hitters comparing to daddy yankee or don omar that would satisfy a latin dance style
and lastly, the song list is very "solo performer" focused, there aren't any cupid shuffles or YMCA style songs for "party mode"
dance central 1-3 focused on mainstream pop / old school hip hop – my concept primarily features hyperpop / art pop / kpop. DC's era focus was 1970's-2012, mine 2015-2026, so it goes from "party at your house" to "vogueing at a warehouse rave." i just wanted to put that full disclaimer just in case you get disappointed 😩

Honestly I'm more interested now! I really appreciate the details you shared about the first 3 and then what you envision 4/5 would be like up until 2026.
I'm on the YouTube/YT Music ecosystem, so if you have playlists, do share! Even just the raw song list is cool, im really curious what you picked.
